Advantages: actually pays, nice surfbar, also earn by signing up offers, do pay Disadvantages: naughty naughty - cancel members accounts, surfbar doesn't count accurately

Customer service is non existent - just try emailing them and see how long it takes.
The Spedia Bar is notoriously 'glitchy', never counting your full time on line despite it telling you that you ... ...same web page for more than one minute. Do that and the bar still fails to record your full time. After you've got 15 points it stops recording at all until - if you're lucky - you click on an advertising banner, then it might...repeat, might start counting again.
But despite all this people still use Spedia, the company do pay out cheques - I've received two from them myself and know others that have as well.

Why? Well they have a habit of cancelling users' accounts - just because they are due to get a cheque. Customer service is non existent - just try emailing them and see how long it takes. The Spedia Bar is notoriously 'glitchy', never counting your full time on line despite it telling you that you hsave to actively surf - i.e not stay on the same web page for more than one minute. Do that and the bar still fails to record your full time. After you've got 15 points it stops recording at all until - if you're lucky - you click on an advertising banner, then it might...repeat, might start counting again.

They announced back in September that they had INCREASED their current surftime rate to 60 cents an hour - astonishing compared to most of the other sites that have troubles and reduced rates to almost nothing! This was quickly clipped to 49c an hour (and bear in mind you don't get your full surfing credit!) and more recently at the end of January to 30c an hour.
In the light of the downturn in ad revenue all the 'Paid to' companies are experiencing, it's lucky that the company are still going at all. Users hate them, like I said, but many throughout the world stick with them, because basically what else is there? Competitors like All Advantage have gone bust, Desktop Dollars and Cashurfers pay around 5 cents an hour, UK Company Cashfiesta sternly refuse to show ads to UK members because they only currently have advertisers interesting in reaching US customers. Add to this new companies that spring up, offer big rates - and disappear just as fast. Remember Catpile, MValue, ePaybar, Guidespace, Surf something or other - you know the ones.
It's so disheartening for anyone looking to earn from the net out there at present - that's why Ciao is so popular of course.
But back to Spedia and I have logged up 1800 points this month and it has been converted to over $10 which is pretty good if you compare it the other existing PFS companies, I mentioned above. Minimum amount needed to get a cheque is $30 - they only pay in US $ - but they take off $4 for issuing a cheque to 'foreigners' like us.
There are other ways to earn with this program, like signing up for programs, but they never seem to credit you for ALL the ones you sign for. Another less than endearing point against Spedia.
So there you have it - without much competition, Spedia is the one - virtually the only one - that you could rely on to earn a cheque from. But then plenty of people will also tell you that you cannot use the words 'rely' and 'Spedia' in the same sentence! Good Luck
Advantages: None as they don't payout Disadvantages: Don't payout
LATEST UPDATE: 16/09/2001
Oh well, as I thought, it is now a month later and still no cheque, so I am now wholeheartedly NOT recommending "Spedia.net", they are nothing but a con, they DO NOT payout, as you can see in my original update, I had requested my cheque FIVE MONTHS ago and have not received it.

FURTHER UPDATE: 12/08/2001
Oh well, having requested my cheque, for just over ... ...know, I have yet to receive it! I have sent them an email, but alls I get back, is a auto-mated email, stating what the problems may be, so in other words, I have not been sent an exact email, telling me where the hell my cheque is. I will give them till the end of the month, and then if not received, I will change this pretty positive opinion, into a VERY NEGATIVE one.

Advantages: It Pays Disadvantages: It does not pay as much as it advertises
Although I have not yet reached the payment threshold, I have been assured that Spedia do indeed pay for surfing.
This is a US based company, unlike alladvantage (who used to pay in sterling) it pays in US Dollars, but then at least it still pays. About the surfbar...
I have joined and downloaded the surfbar. The bar is a basic one slightly smaller than some others, although I have found on occasions it can slow down the computer, but that is not ... ...most other surfbars have (well apart from the adverts). The Catch
I will use it but I honestly do not expect to really make much from it. It advertises that when you join you can make $150 in the first hour. In theory that is possible. But you need to be based in the USA to sign up to some of the offers (e.g. compubank). The ones that are left for me either were of no interest (e.g. find a date dating club, pyramid casino etc) or I was already a ...

Advantages: Good payout rate, variety of ways to earn Disadvantages: Blasted bar doesn't work!
I first joined spedia.net over two years ago, when I also joined about 10 other get "paid" to surf junk programs. But, I went through a lazy stage and didn't use them for around a year. I'd slaved on their program and worked up about $10 for the half year I'd been with them. However, when I went back to it about 2 monthes ago, I'd been an inactive user for too long and my balance had been wiped! *~~The Story~~*
Yes, the same old same old. You dowload ... ...it. The bar is at the bottom of the screen and takes up about 1/6 of the screen. It makes the browser page smaller to fit in, which means that it doesn't keep popping up and annoyingly interupting you. *~~How to get points~~*
There's 6 main ways to get points- * Surf with the bar.
The most you earn is one point per minute ( don't know what the least is!) The bar is split into two section- I'm guessing that if the two sections are different adverts ...

Advantages: Actually Pays Disadvantages: Rips customers off
Have you ever wished you could make money by just surfing on the net? Have you ever wished that just by having an advertising bar on youy computer you can earn money? Well all that is possible with spedia.
Spedia is a Pay while you surf company that currently pays $.30us an hour. This company unlike other company has survived as many other companies have shut down or currently only play $.3us an hour.
The way you can make money are as follows with ... ...to surf the net while you view ads. Every 5 minutes you are actively surfing the internet 5 spedia points are credited to your account. At the end of each month all those points are converted to dollars which then at the end of each month if you have a substantial amount of money ($30 is the minimum check size) you can request a check which would arrive at your doorstep in just under a month.

Advantages: Good pay rates. Other, easier ways to make money. Disadvantages: Bar is unstable and stops working fast. Still only 32 cents an hour is not amazing
Ok, I've been here before, another company that promised me huge amounts of money, seemingly in return for nothing but surfing the web. At the time I was young, innocent and gullible, so duly signed up for Spedia. At first the initial pay rates were very similar to the other programs like CashSurfer, CashFiesta and Desktop dollars, in that I got a small (around 1 megabyte) download and had to run an ad bar on the bottom of my screen while surfing ... ...paid some of the revenue back to me, at around 60 cents an hour pay rate. All in all it looked a very average paid to surf ad bar program when all the internet companies were making loads of money and could spare a bit.
However over the past few months the ad revenue has steadily declined as the internet bubble burst, most of the losses have been transferred to the pay rates, falling to as low as 2 cents an hour. However for some reason Spedia did ...
