One of the great things about the internet, when everything comes together, is that it is a great way of disseminating information, especially live feeds, very quickly. The Sporting Life site is an excellent example of this concept in action. Most sites are usually fairly limited in what they cover , but apart from news and encyclopaedias, sport as an umbrella term is a fairly large area to cover.

Note the url of this site is:

http://www.sporting-life.com

So what does it cover?

When you get to the home page you are presented with headlines , as well as options for, wait for it,

Football
 Racing
Cricket
 Rugby Union
 Six Nations
 Rugby League
 Formula One
 Golf
Tennis
 Boxing
 NFL
 Snooker
 Other Sports
Betting Zone
 Racing Betting
 Football Betting

Which is some area to cover.

Because I'm only interested in Football and Horse Racing, these are the two areas of the site that I use on an almost daily basis, so I'll just give a breakdown of their main features. I'm sure the other sections work in similar ways, but to check them out you would probably need a few months to fully appreciate all the features, but if your favourite spectator sport is covered in the list above, then this site will become indispensable for you, should you decide to use it.

The layout for all the pages is fairly constant and the navigation is very simple. Each Sports page has a drop down menu option that enables you to switch between say football and horse racing at the touch of a button.

Sometimes because of the complexity of the pages, it can get slow, but most of the time the performance is excellent.

 Horse Racing:

As well as the main headlines this gives advance details of the days racing with race histories, odds and full details of all the horses, as well as almost instant information on race winners, followed by full race results including basic commentaries. Full race results from previous days are also available.

The full racing menu consists of

 John McCririck - Commentary from the flamboyant tipster
 Racecards - Who is running in which race for the that day
 Live Shows - Latest odds on horses about to race
 Results - Full results of races
 Going - What the ground is likely to be like at the race courses
 Non-Runners - Who is not running

Plus many more that I don't normally read including details of courses and forthcoming fixtures. The site provides all I need to know to follow horse racing. If this was all the site provided it would still get five stars in my book.

 Football.

This has almost all you need to follow football including full details of all teams in the Barclaycard Premiership, The Nationwide, Conference and Scottish Leagues as well as International and some European information. It provides lots of statistics, has it's own vidiprinter application as well as live results similar to the horse racing. The full football menu is:

 Headlines
 Live
 Premiership
 Scots Premier
 Nationwide 1
 Fixtures
 Tables
 Champs League
 UEFA Cup
 FA Cup
World Cup
 Other Cups
 International
 Overseas
 Nationwide 2
 Nationwide 3
 Conference
 Scottish 1
 Scottish 2
 Scottish 3
 Top Scorers
 Transfers
 Suspensions
 Pools

Most of this is self explanatory, but provides all the information about football that you could want to know, and like the rest of the site is constantly updated. I'd recommend this to anyone who has even a passing interest in sport, but beware you can get completely taken in and end up losing a few hours just browsing.
