Alienware Area-51m 7700
Advantages: Powerfull, High Spec, Upgradeable, Excellent Machine
Disadvantages: Heavy
...I have been looking for an upgrade to my Advent 7014 Laptop and was recommended to Alienware. I had a look at there website and was surprised with the spec of this machine. The machine in question was an Alienware Area-51m 7700 Laptop. There are a lot of different specs and you can customize your own machine. The lowest CPU choice is a 2.8Ghz P4 with 800FSB and the highest is a massive 3.6Ghz P4 with 800FSB. You can have upto 4GB DDR2 4200 Ram. You can have a choice of 1 or 2 DVD Re-Writers which are Duel Layer. Choice of 1 or 2 SATA Hard Drives upto around 100GB Each Drive. There is a choice of a 17" WideXGA+ 1400x900 LCD Display or 17" WideSXGA+ 1680x1050 LCD which comes with a built in web camera. Comes with the following features: Externally accessible:
Parallel: One parallel port
Serial: One serial port
Video: One DVI connector...

The Aliens have landed at my house
Advantages: It is a great looking very powerful PC
Disadvantages: You have to have deep pockets
...It's a bit of a beast, that phrase is bandied about a lot isn't it but in this case is correct on all fronts. Let me tell you a story and as with all good stories I shall start at the very beginning.
Way back in the murky depths of November 2006 I was about to fulfil a dream of mine to own an Alienware computer, for years I had lusted after said product but now was the first time I had got enough money together to afford one There is no point in denying they are expensive because they are, very.
Ordering is a case of first deciding if you wish for an AMD or Intel processor, that is if you are not mega rich and can afford a top of the range ALX system, slightly out of my stretched pocket so I went for the Area 51 7500 which is an Intel powered system.
The next step is to decide what bits and pieces you want inside. The options...

Immense power for the computer elite
Advantages: Huge power and capable of almost any task
Disadvantages: Expensive
...The alienware was always designed for one purpose and one purpose only. Gaming. And this isn't ure average low brow gaming. This is mainly for hard core gaming enthusiasts. The huge amounts of RAM and immense processing power make for a truly powerful machine with the ability to control a small army. This computer would make your average desktop PC crash in shame it is the pure premium in computer science and its price reflects this. This is far from a cheap product but the people who buy these either are far beyond caring or so enthusiastic they feel no regret in paying large amounts of their savings for such a machine.
The machine itself not only works well but looks well doing it. It is larger than the average machine and quickly draws attention to itself when others walk into the room. It comes in several different colours...

Bad experience with Alienware
Advantages: Large screen, upgradable to a degree.
Disadvantages: Bulky, Heavy, Unstable, Very short battery life
...Well I thought that I would sell my decktop and purchase an alienware area 51 7700.
All the reviews have told me that these are good machines, which convinced me to buy one.
when i first got the laptop and turned it on i was shocked to find out how slow and laggy it was. Especially the games. It had a P4 3Gig processor with 512 ram and a X800 ATI card. Now you would think it could cope with call of duty. It did but not very well.
So i stuck 2GB Kingston DDR2 ram in it. Well it speeded it up, but the game play was still way behind my desktop (which was no where near as powerfull).
So i then decided in a last vain attempt to increase performance i would put two hard drives in it on a raid. This also speeded up the loading. But the games were still lagging.
All i can think is that it was just not upto the power...

Alienware
Advantages: Great looking site, great looking products, customer service
Disadvantages: Expensive products, rumour says products are unreliable.
...Alienware is a website that sells high-powered gaming Desktops and Laptops. This is a review for the website, and that is mainly what I will talk about, as I don't really want to stray into talking about the computers themselves as many other reviews have done, although I will outline briefly the different items which Alienware sell.
The website is extremely good looking, it has futuristic themes that suit the name of the website, as well as the products which they sell and the company logo. The navigation of the website is also very easy to use. The links are easy to find, and everything is clearly labelled so the user always knows what they are doing.
When viewing the different machines the website really comes into it's own, as there are animations of each part of the different machines in order to fully display the different...

Alienware M17
Advantages: Gorgeous look, great speed
Disadvantages: Its big but powerfull
...I have read a lot of negative reviews about Alienware myself.
I too feel I have to set the record straight. I bought a laptop from Alienware, and it works like a dream. No faults, no noise, no extreme heat, nothing of the sort. It is the fastest machine I have ever worked on... It was built to my specifications, arrived before the due date in pristine condition and packaged gorgeously. When asked for support I was promptly dealt with.
I am sorry for all the people writing reviews that had bad experiences with Alienware, but anyone would be more likely to write a review if they had had a bad experience rather than if they had a good one
I can only say that I now own a laptop that has a kick ass look, is faster than any other laptop I have seen or handled and is different from all the hum hoe run off the mill products you see...

Alienware works perfectly
Advantages: VERY high performance systems, decent value for the basic Aurora and possibly other's
Disadvantages: VERY overpriced when it comes to upgrades. Slow at getting stock back in stock.
...I bought my alienware around two months ago now, and I have not had a single problem with it. The reason I waited this long to post this review is that I heard alot of people say that something went wrong with theirs, but nothing has gone wrong with mine. Overall, the computer is very reliable, fast and most importantly, brilliant at playing games, even though I only bought the basic Aurora desktop, that when I bought it, cost only £700. I did the math and that's not a bad price for what you get. I will say though that the other models and upgrades are ery overpriced. I looked not long ago and found that if I was going to upgrade myself rather than asking them to do it, it was going to save me around £200. Not only that but i would get to keep/sell the parts that I got with the base system, potentially saving me even more money. The base...

AlienWare, by the looks of it made by aliens!
Advantages: Very powerful spec, possibility of very fast computer
Disadvantages: Awful customer service, stay away!
...Soon after I had received the computer, it was unstable in many ways, Alienware's "online" technician encouraged me to"keep going, leave the computer on, it's problems will fizzle out" and my computer needed to do this as it was new, he also advised me not to change anything on my computer to "get the value" of what I had paid for.
I ran a long series of tests to see whether the computer had sorted it's self out the next day. It had not. I was getting errors working with Adobe Accrobat and other errors including problems with windows. I left it for a week, still very unstable, i called there customer services, still nothing!
Alienware's service claims and reputation had played a big role in my decision to pay top dollar for this £2500 computer and its 3-year onsite support service. Their website promises onsite support, but...

Alienware M5550i
Advantages: quality laptop
Disadvantages: machine gets a LOT hotter than your dad's 5 year old Tecra
...Ordering --
not an easy task. I was desperate to throw £950 at Alienware to buy a notebook, but I was tripped up by the ordering system more than once. No mechanism to let the bank know the purchase is kosher, so the bank then doesn't let the transaction go thru. Do it's up to you to phone the bank and ask if the payment's been accepted, find out it hasn't, then get back to Alienware and tell them to get their billing department to re-request. Bored yet? Not half as much as I was.
Delivery:
on time & no problems.
Packaging:
safe. 10/10
Machine looks:
ten out of ten. I've heard negative comments about the reflectivity of A/ware's screens, but they look good to me, just don't sit under a 150 watt lamp and all will be ok.
Machine in use:
right, the machine gets hot. I've been told that this is probably down to...
