Gateway - the Final Frontier?
Advantages: Great characters and cleverly structured
Disadvantages: The domestic violence bit sticks out like a sore thumb
...Gateway, by Frederik Pohl, is very much in the grand tradition of 'hard SF'. Whereas much of what gets put in the science-fiction section of bookshops is actually little more than fantasy with lasers instead of swords, Gateway is part of the Arthur C Clarke, Bradbury and Asimov school that seeks to extrapolate fantastic worlds from real current science, and examines how science and technology could affect the peoples of those worlds.
In the future, Earth is massively over-populated - and starving. Food is synthesised from hydrocarbons, and there's not enough to go around. Life is brutal and grinding poverty is everywhere.
For the bravest, however, there's an incredible opportunity - Gateway. A relic of a vanished super-race, Gateway is a huge space station filled with alien ships. Huge amounts of money are promised to brave...

A dramatic concrete gateway
Advantages: Wide ranging styles of Theatrical productions.
Disadvantages: Concrete 60's Architecture
...Chester is famous for its architecture boasting the remains of a walled Roman city, a Gothic Town Hall, a Norman Cathedral and the Rows - Tudor shops. It is a picturesque and interesting mélange of architectural styles. Yet tucked away behind the Town Hall is the Gateway theatre, a product of the 1960s concrete architectural movement.
The Theatre isn’t very pretty to look at nor is it grand or luxurious inside but it is friendly, welcoming and stages a wide range of theatrical performances.
The Theatre can be accessed by walking through the Forum shopping centre or via a set of stairs situated at the corner of Trinity Street and Hamilton Place. The theatre is easily accessed by disabled patrons with a lift available from the street and parking area to the Theatre and ramps to areas inside the theatre itself.
A paved area...

Gateway to trouble
Advantages: Tech support
Disadvantages: Poor customer support and delivery
...declined because I was capable of doing it myself, and I thought it would take longer. I was told I was to have it within 4 days. Yeah right! It was nearly 3 weeks later. In the mean time I had contacted Gateway to ask where it was, and what was going on. I was actually told it had been put on special delivery, and I would get it on Friday. When Friday came I stayed at home all day (I should have been elsewhere) guess what it never came! I wasted a day at home, and gateway didn’t care, I phoned them up and they said it hadn’t even left; so then I was absolutely fuming.
I wrote to Gateway, about all the incidents and they offered my 50p compensation. What in insult, what can I do with 50p?
Other things I don’t like about gateway is they’re ordering tracking system never lets me in even though I have tried it...

Travel to the top of The Gateway Arch Mork-style - in an egg.
Advantages: Elegant architectural icon. Magnificent vies and photographic opportunity.
Disadvantages: Lenghy queues. Only partially accessible for disable visitors.
...The elegant Gateway Arch, reaching up to 630 feet dominates St Louis’ skyline. Standing in the Jefferson Natural Expansion Memorial Park, the arch symbolises the role St Louis played as the gateway to the west.
Shortly after the Second World War in 1947, a competition was privately financed to find a suitable architectural centrepiece for the park. The aim was to commemorate Thomas Jefferson’s vision of the spread of freedom and democracy from “sea to shining sea” and his commissioned expedition in 1804 to the west coast headed by Lewis and Clark.
Finnish-American architect Eero Saarinen and structural engineer Hannskarl Bandel’s design of this graceful tapered stainless-steel catenary arch won over the 171 other entries. Construction of this remarkable structure took around three years to complete. Pictures of the construction can...

Gateway - your way
Advantages: Great Ram, and resistance to damage
Disadvantages: The ordinar resolution
...The beautiful design makes it all! It has 2year warranty! It has 3 gb of Ram, 250 Gb hard drive. For almost 800$, you've made the best deal. When I saw it, i couldn't believe my eyes! The only thing that may be said of bad about this notebooks is the ordinary resolution - 1,280-by-800. And, nowadays, adding extraspace isn't so expensive. But, the 1.83-GHz Intel Core 2 Duo rises the appreciation. Also, the red color isn't painted in a great way... Performance is the value that
Gateway always maintained. This time too. It has more memory than many others notebooks, and the quality of the images is outstanding.I bought it as a gift for my cousin almost a year ago. He did something to it and had to use the warranty. After they repaired it, it was like new. So, it sustains damage :D But, don't try to crack it beacuse of your nerves. If i...

Gateway support
Advantages: No quibble support desk
Disadvantages: None
...I bought a Gateway EV700 in March this year and have been hugely impressed with the support desk back up. After about 6 weeks I had problems with the modem and after trying to fix the problem over the telephone Gateway arranged for my modem to be replaced within 48 hours. Then I had a problem with hte mouse and again Gateway came up trumps and sent over a replacement. Of course it would have been better if these things had not gone wrong in the first place but they do say that if a company can put things right then your opinion of them is enhanced. Well done Gateway....

Gateway IS Performance!
Advantages: High performance, reliability. Good value-for-money.
Disadvantages: None
...I invested in a Gateway Performance 650 system some 4 months ago. I purchased an Epson Perfection 610 scanner, and a HP Deskjet 840C printer separately to get away from the "cheap" packages offered by most of the popular retailers who include only low performance printers and scanners as a part of the deal. I went for a 30Gb hard drive at small incremental cost. The promise of delivery within 7 days was beaten by 2 days! The system was easy to instal, even for a relative novice. Everythiny worked perfectly first time, with no problems to date.
I feel the Gateway machine may not appear on the surface to be amongst the cheapest, but if the price of the cheapo peripherals is taken out of many of the "packages" on offer, the Gateway machine does offer good value for money. The consumers association also rate it as one of the most reliable...

A Gateway to trouble free computing!
Advantages: Excellant service; friendly staff!
Disadvantages:
...When I first decided to purchase a PC three years ago, I was extremely daunted by the sheer amount of PC distributors that were available. Also, back then I was overwhelmed by the technicalities of PCs and I was scared that I wouldn't get the one to best suit my needs.
However, I need not have worried as I as a friend recommended Gateway (previously Gateway 2000). I was a little hesitant at first because it was strictly mail order. However, a very friendly sales person advised me on the best package and within around a week I had a new PC delivered to my door. Assembly was, quite simply, a gift thanks to Gateway's coloured coded cables. Within about an hour my new PC was up and running.
With my computer I got a built-in DVD-ROM drive. However, soon I discovered that this did not work properly. I rang customer services...

Gateway a company for good support
Advantages: Prepared to help after the warranty expires
Disadvantages: Some long telephone calls maybe
...I have had a Gateway machine for two years now and I am well pleased with its performance.
What I want to draw peoples attention to is Gateway's excellent aftersales support. I have, on a number of occassions, needed to get in touch with Gateway's technical support as the result of a number of technical problems. These "problems" have been a mixture of situations brought about by myself, like trying to use Norton System Works to "move" Microsoft Office from one small partician to a larger partician with more room, result...huge crash. The technicians at Gateways telephone help centre talked me through sorting out the mess.
On other occassions they have helped with the installation of hardware (A read writer, which we bought from Gateway. I don't think they would support the installation of rival hardware) or correcting hardware...

Gateway - Okay by me
Advantages: good website, decent products, solid build quality
Disadvantages: none
...Over the course of time I have listened to friends and acquaintances complaining about this or that computer they bought. I've had my Gateway PC for about 5-6 years now without a single major problem. In fact, it's so old, it has one of the first Pentium II chips in it and "only" 6Gb hard disk space - How quaint I hear you cry!
The two most common complaints for PC hardware seem to be delivery problems and (lack of) after sales support - price doesn't seem to come into AFTER they have bought it! Who want's to admit to buying an expensive computer that would have been cheaper elsewhere?
Many of the opinions here seem to imply that Gateway are expensive, some even complain about the support but, in my experience, their computers are well worth the money and a dream to own and use. In fact, I disagree that they are expensive - compare...
