Ford Focus 1.6 Zetec

Advantages: A great car from all angles
Disadvantages: Not as many extras included as I would have liked

...I am now the proud owner of a ford focus 1.6 zetec and for the first time in many years I have actually found a car that pretty muc suits all my needs. I have spent many a time in cars that are too big, too small, not suitable, not comfortable etc but this is everything I could ask for. I own the three door version but the doors open widely and when the front seat is moved forward there is plenty of room to get anyone in the back, even my mother in law who is disabled. The back of this car is extremely spacious, comfortably fitting 3 large adults in. The boot size is deceiving in that it looks pretty small but is very spacious indeed. Perfect for all those shopping bags as well as a childs pushchair. The actual drive of this car is superb. Mine runs on unleaded and is very economical. I can get over 200 miles to £35...

Ford Focus 1.6 - Shocking!!

Advantages: Handling and Looks
Disadvantages: Customer Service, Bodywork, Transmission...

...Two years ago I decided to buy a brand new car, and after much research I decided upon the Ford Focus 1.6 (old style now). Everything I had read pointed towards a really good choice. So I went into my local Ford dealer and a week later I had my nice new car. First thoughts were a good looking car, well built, fantastically smooth to drive, held the roads amazingly well. All of the equipment worked wonderfully well and I absolutley loved my new car. Then the problems began.... After two weeks the Airbag Modulator failed, so I went back to the dealer, and they replaced the faulty part within a few days. They wouldn't let me have a courtesy cat so was left hanging around the dealers for a few hours. All work was under warranty so no cost to me. Three weeks after the Modulator fault I was washing the car and noticed tiny rust spots...

Audi A3 1.6 Sport (W)

Advantages: Stunningly good looking, well sought after - easy to sell on, definitely get more then you paid for if you've done the research
Disadvantages: Audi servicing and parts pricey, steep insurance, overall maintenance expensive

...First and foremost, do your research, I bought my car in October 2003 from a second hand dealer advertised in the newspaper for £8695, whilst on my search saw the same car advertised over the Internet for £8400, finally managed to negotiate a price of £8200 once informing the dealer of my ability to take the car of his hands that same day and also informing him I was a serious buyer who had done my research! Alas, a year later an identical car was on private sale priced at £6000 slightly higher mileage but none the less the owner was ready to take £5,500 - research, research and... Review of Audi A3 1.6

Focus 1.6 - A fun stylish serious car.

Advantages: Comfortable, spacious for passengers, driver and lugage. Nippy and stylish.
Disadvantages: Its not the ST170 and its not the RS.

...My 1.6 is one of the late early 2001 models and it is a pleasure to drive it was second hand and had two previous owners, I'm not sure how they treated it but when I picked it up it was in pristine condition which to me says that it is a fairly hardwearing car. Its smooth lines and contours make for a slightly sporty look as well as the memories of the Rally focus in all its glory tearing up the WRC. It is a very smooth ride with fantastic handling so if you are a little heavy on the peddle it has the strength to compensate. Acceleration is good and you through the range of the 5 speed gear box, and at the other end of the scale the brakes are hot too mine only has discs on the front and Drums on the back but there is plenty there to slow down the 125 horses that kick out of the engine. Honda civic 1.6 sport - a good buy.

Advantages: Looks, reliability, performance, economy
Disadvantages: some little niggles (see text)

...The 1.6 civic sport is now the second civic I've owned from new and there are a number of reasons why I've stayed faithful to the Honda brand. Honda engines are very reliable and I have yet to have any problems in this regard. Moreover, the dealers are generally easily accessible and most offer a relatively high level of customer service throughout - whether your car's in for a service or just a new set of wiper blades. The 1.6 engine, as well as being reliable is also economical. I drive the car pretty hard and it still returns in the region of 32 mpg which is pretty good going. Less 'spirited' driving returns an mpg closer to 36. A full tank of petrol comes in at around £35.00 for me and that's at around 85p per litre. I've had the car 9 months now and it's covered around 14k miles. In this time it's had its first service at 12...

2000 Coupe 1.6 sport alize

Advantages: purchase price, drivability, looks
Disadvantages: too soon to tell

...activated from the remote locking key. Enough said Driving Not quite as chuckable as the MGF, but it feels secure on the road. The 1.6 has a good 110bhp (check the engine you are going to buy as there are a few different varients out there) and sporty enough. Gives good milage - a tank cost £35 and I can get nearly 400miles. Bit of roadnoise on the Motorway but not to intrusive. Comfortable driving position with hight adjust on the drivers seat, elec heated mirrors, sterio controls next to the wiper stalk. Suspension soaks up all but the really bad bumps which is the trade between sports and comfort, however Renault have met the fine balance well. Honda Civic Sport 1.6 V-tec, 3 door.

Advantages: Mans Car, Fast, Very Stylish, Economical

...My boyfriend bought this car in June 2006 (it was 1 year old at this point). He pays almost £900 for insurance with Arnold Clark (whom he bought it from - he was aged 22 at the time). That's fully comp, and includes business class 1 terms, so for his first car and own insurance policy (no other drivers), I think it's not too bad (insurance group 6). Elephant.co.uk have offered him a quote of almost £650 with 1 years no claims. Again, not too bad. I drive the car on occasion. It's maybe a bit slow off the mark (it can feel as though the gear grinds between 1st and 2nd), however, other than that it goes through the gears with ease. Renault Megane 1.6 RT Sport, Garlic on the go

Advantages: Comfort, Economy, Brakes
Disadvantages: Gearbox, A few minor niggles, Gearbox

...As a part time (employed) motor mechanic I would never have bought a French car but this Megane 1.6RT Sport came up very cheap on 86000 miles with the clutch shot to bits. (NOT a joy to replace) The car was a genuine one owner with a full service history, from the original main dealer. Overall it has given 14 months (10000 miles) of reliable if uninspiring motoring) What's good about the Megane Fuel consumption, it seems to go forever on £20. Comfort, Plenty of extras. General reliability. The engine is very willing, especially when taken over 3500 rpm, though there's precious little bottom end torgue. Brakes are lovely, What's not so good about the Megane The gearbox. (2nd gear synchro is knackered on ours) The steering has little or no feel. 1999 Phase 2 Megane Coupe 1.6 16V Sports Alize

Advantages: Looks, handling, individuality
Disadvantages: space (but you are buying a coupe!)

...The car: MEGANE COUPE 1999 1.6 16V Sports Alize phase 2 I have had the car for 4-5 years now and guess I can judge how well the Megane Coupe has faired for me. Many reviews here don't seem to distinguise whether it is the phase 1 or phase 2 models. Phase 1 models are usually 8V whereas the phase 2 models are 16V and have a slightly different front and back styling. The picture shown above is of a phase 2 car and is the hatchback version NOT the coupe! Here I review my car which is the phase 2 Coupe model.
