Vauxhall New Astra Design 1.6i 16v

Advantages: it's sporty, compact and has most extras as standard
Disadvantages: It has a small petrol Tank

...I think this car could honestly be a strong contender for car of the year. I have had this car for about 4 months now and i like it loads. You get loads of things as standard on this model such as air con, power steering, on board computer, which tells you things such as mpg, range (how far you can travel before needing to fill up) which is really useful for when you get low on fuel and thinking if you should fill up sooner rather than later. you also get cd player as standard. and for those of you who do like fancy things you also get automatic lights and aoutomatic wipers as standard. Which is preety cool. you switch them on when it starts to rain then they move to the speed of rain fall. the only anoying thing about this is that it can only be raining slighlty but if it is consistent then the wipers will be on full and quite often it...

Zafira - Oh how I love you. Check out my hands.

Advantages: 7 seats, decent drive. Ours is silver.
Disadvantages: Not a lot - a bit ugly.

...the first section. 1.6i 16V ---------- What the f**K does that mean? Looks ------- That done, down to the nitty-gritty (which is apparently a very racist term, related to the slave trade but I can't remember from whence it came). The Zafira was pretty much based on the old Astra with a slightly extended chassis. The Astra was not especially good-looking and hey - guess what? My wife dislikes it's looks totally. She likes minxy in a car and this ain't it. It isn't ugly - just bleugh. Very non-descript. The stubby bonnet sweeps up to a large windscreen and on to the long, essentially rectangular body. Very little in the way of curves here. The rear drops precipitously to the tail. Ours is silver. So it is also shiny. Inside, the layout is much like the Astra. The dash (and I did have an Astra by the way, once, in a former marriage) is...

Diamond review  So where's the flippin' "robot" button then?

Advantages: High Tech gadgets, 20K Mile service intervals, smooth ride and good handling
Disadvantages: I can't make it dance.

...into a robot!! So I pop into the nearest showroom (?must remember to ask the salesman to show me the robot thingy) and look at the range of new C4's. Then I take it for a test drive (....must remember about the robot thingy). OK. So far, so good. Next we talk cash ? (damn! forgot to ask about the robot thingy). Well, I know how much it costs in the showroom. So then I spend hours, no days?nay weeks, searching the internet for all the good deals, only to end up back at the first dealer showroom with an offer I can't beat anywhere else. It's a deal. Oh yes!! I pay the equivalent of £11,800 for the C4 1.6 16V VTR Plus - with metallic paint. Now that's a good deal, because the showroom price (with metallic paint) is £14,645. Even "What Car?" suggest a target price of £12,388 PLUS £350 for the option of metallic paint Oh joy...

New Astra worthy of top small family hatch???

Advantages: Nice styling, outstanding drive and handling, good quality interior!!
Disadvantages: Finicky new toys, 1.6 lacks real muscle and Vauxhall badge!!

...Test Model Vauxhall Astra 1.6 16v SXI Reg no: BF55 FYP UK model RHD Mileage 5912 Actual 0-60: 9.6 Printed max speed: 115 mph Printed economy: 32.8mpg urban Actual economy: 25mpg The new generation Astra has gone through a complete revamp since its ageing predecessor, both externally and internally there are very few features kept from the previous shape. The main improvement overall is the driving experience which has been improved by 80%. The New Astra is a beautiful looking car in sport hatch form and in 5 door form (like the one I tested) is still sporty looking, especially with alloys and front spot lights. As mentioned before the similarities between the previous Astra and the new generation one is minimal, Vauxhall choosing more sporty and dramatic lines to complement the cars shape. Have to say I am no big fan...

Astra-nomical!

Advantages: Space, Comfort and Looks
Disadvantages: ???

...**1.6i 16v Twinport - Easytronic** I got our new Astra 1.6i Elite Easytronic November 2004 on a 54 plate. I didn't think i'd like it as i'd seen pictures and wasn't keen on the back end... thought it looked a little like a Megan... and i hate those cars! The car is a company car so i didnt get to see it before it was delivered and i didnt want to say goodbye to my Audi A3 as i loved it so much. *Colour* I got it in lightening silver... sort of an ice blue tinge to it, gorgeous! a big change from the firery red i had before. It has chrome detail on it and looks amazing! *Size* The car is alot wider than i'm used to, only just fits in my driveway! But the inside is brilliant. There is loads of room! The length of the car is bigger than the norm too. I noticed when parking that the car hangs out more than most other cars...

Kylie - The Clio 1.2 16v Dynamique

Advantages: Fun, cheap to run and insure, stylish and safe.
Disadvantages: Leaky sunroofs.

...This review is based on a 2004 Renault Clio 1.2 16v Dynamique. After having an accident in my previous Clio (a 1.6 16v Dynamique) I set out looking for a new car, eventually I found myself (after much looking) the following car? A 2004 Renault Clio 1.2 16v Dynamique in flame red, the colour I really wanted, my previous car had digital climate control and an electric sunroof so I purposefully found a car that also had these features. Being the 2004 model it had the face lifted front end (MK2 PH3) The car I found had the following specification: Performance: Engine - 1.2 16v 4cyl MPI (multipoint injection) Power - 75bhp Torque - 105Nm 0-60 - 12.6secs Top Speed - 106mph Gearbox - 5 speed manual Interior: Sports seats Digital Climate Control Electric Sunroof with sunblind Electric windows (one touch...

Ka-tegorically the best car for the money!

Advantages: Great value for money, beautiful, fast, reliable
Disadvantages: Eats the petrol a little but otherwise perfect!

...the practicalities? Well its scoring highly in this area too! The suspension has been stiffened and has a sports set up so is fantastic. It's important here to point out that standard Ka's do tend to have suspension problems in later life so any help in this department is very much welcomed. Being a sport car there is a close-ratio 5-speed gearbox which is altogether more comfortable and practical. Not forgetting the power-assisted steering and electronic anti-lock brakes which help this car feel very new and very safe! SportKa's come in 1.6i petrol and that extra power (Ka's are 1.3i petrol) can really be felt especially when pulling out of junctions. The only slight problem is higher fuel consumption but then there has to be some sort of compromise! The SportKa also comes with an alarm and remote central locking (which I can't see how I ever...

VTR / VTS

Advantages: FREE INSURANCE! Looks, engine, great car!!
Disadvantages: small - boy racer VTS image

...- Air con, electric windows, remote central locking - check out www.citreon.co.uk for a list and virtual tour! As a family man its good to see the 4.5 * N-Cap crash rating which stands the VTS as safest in its class. Anyway most of you interested in this car dont care about the above, you want to know how it drives - right? Well its a VTS so its pretty mental the 1.6i 16v engine pumps out 125BHP and revs effortlessly to 7000rpm, coupled with the close ratio gear box the VTS will do 0-60 in 8 seconds. The ride is very firm and sporty, the 16" alloys hold Michelin sport tyres and amazingly the VTS comes with ESP traction control which keeps it glued to the road. The steering is a little vague and over assisted around town but it is speed sensative so it gives plenty of feedback once moving. However having a close ratio box gear means...

ford fusion

Advantages: practical, comfortable, good petrol economy
Disadvantages: niggly fault and rattles

...visibility is good. The seats are comfortable and there is plenty of room for 5 with good head room. The boot is very spacious and is flat with no lip. This is useful for getting large things in as there is no edge to lift them over but it does mean sometimes when you open the boot things fall out. There is a cargo net but this is a pain as it forever comes loose, as do the cords which hold up the rear sill. The tailgate is good and tall so is great if you have a dog. The car has a nice ride but it has a high centre of gravity and feels unstable going round corners if you are too fast. It is good on petrol consumption giving around 28 miles to the gallon. I drive mainly short journeys in a built up area. It comes with a temporary spare tyre and a set of tool but only 1 key has the full range of controls , the other one is a courtesy key...

Review of Ford Fusion 1.6i Duratec 16V

Fusion - the new Volvo?

Advantages: Very sensible car
Disadvantages: Not one to show off to your friends

...I suppose I am a bit of a Ford Anorak. Two Fiesta?s and now a Fusion. (Get a life I hear you say?) Well buying a Fusion was a step up in class for me. The Fiesta being a bit small and cramped and the Focus (after a test drive) was just too cluttered and fussy. The Fusion is a neat and tidy car. Nothing flash or fancy. My local Ford dealer tried to rip me off for a second year so a bit of shopping around found a good dealer in Bexley. Beating the previous quote by over a grand. The Salesman was very decent, answered all my questions and even bent to my request for free floor mats. (Always worth asking) I opted for the Fusion 2. My test drive in the Fusion 1 found the smaller engine totally gutless and the Fusion 3 was too much money for cosmetic extra?s, I was more than happy with the CD player with the traffic alert...
