Sigma 10-20mm - pro quality at amateur price

Sigma EX 10-20mm f4-f5.6 DC HSM

Advantages: Good quality results. Good build. Compact. Price.
Disadvantages: Distortion with architecture and interior shots.

Not only is the barrel distortion pronounced at the extreme edges but there is also an alarming degree of 'stretching' distortion to any objects positioned in the extreme corners of the frame . This is impossible to correct in software. It is here in particular where this lens falls short of the Canon EF-S 10-22mm lens which doesn't exhibit this problem AND has less barrel distortion at the edges. To make matters more complicated, at around 15mm, the lens exhibits quite strong pincushion distortion, although this tends to even out again by 20mm,. These distortion problems are the main reasons why I disposed of my own Sigma 10-20mm lens, replacing it with the Canon 10-22mm. If you shoot mostly landscapes, this probably won't be too much of an issue - unless you are particularly aware of distortions? ie...

It runs on sealed cartridge bearings that are easily changeable, instructions can be found on the Hope website. The hub body is made of cnc'd aluminum so its light and still strong. It also has the standard 6-bolt disc mount so its compatible with all brake systems. The 20mm axle means it creates a very stiff wheel and front end of the bike that will take all abuse.
