Hertz Hurts the Pocket

Advantages: lovely car, friendly staff
Disadvantages: staff a bit too casual, expensive

...Finding myself stuck without a car last week and several appointments to keep, I decided to hire one double-quick. The first place that sprang to mind was Hertz, as they had opened a new place literally at the bottom of my street a couple of weeks previously. It was a Sunday night, and I wanted the car first thing next morning, so I went straight onto the Hertz website (www.hertz.co.uk) and booked. I booked myself the smallest, cheapest car (listed as 'Fiat Siecento or similar') for 3 days (8.40 a.m. Monday to 5.30 p.m. Wednesday) and paid just under £140 including insurance. I wasn't going to have the insurance, which would have worked out over £30 cheaper, but when I realised I would be liable for £500 excess I took it just in case. I arrived at Hertz at 8.40 the next morning to find they hadn't opened their emails yet so...

Hertz nearly broke our Hearts

Advantages: They rent cars
Disadvantages: sometimes

...through with our luggage before engaging the Hertz staff in a full and frank exchange of views. They wouldn't budge, they had NO cars. We could wait for someone to return a car or take the bus to Franfurt Main. We tried the other car hire firms in the airport but no-one had anything available, so it was going to have to be Franfurt. But not on the bus. We moseyed up to the first taxi we saw and asked if he would take us to Franfurt airport. "Do you know how far it is?" he asked. "What is this? a quiz?" I retorted - well, what I said was actually more like, "No I don't." Anyway, the upshot is that it is around 80 miles from Hahn so the taxi fare was going to be on the hefty side of substantial. In fact it came to €150 or $150 or 100 of your British quids. Luckily I had a wallet stuffed full of the necessaries. Great start...

Do You Work For Hertz?

Advantages: They want to stay #1.
Disadvantages: They lost a year ago!

...Where is my car? I had a reservation! I'll never rent from Hertz again...blah, blah, blah! I once got in trouble because a customer asked if I work for Hertz, and I said "NO!" Let's see, I have a Hertz cap, a Hertz jacket, and a Hertz shirt, and even as a walking billboard, people still ask that question. Then you get the people who are ticked off because something went wrong with their car and refuse to give you(the billboard) the key to their car! You can all relax, I've moved on to better employment. I was actually an exemplary employee, and received many letters of thanks from customers. Most customers are actually unaware of what is going on at The Rental Cars' Counters. It's corporate action at it's best. Ever notice that when Hertz is out of cars, so are the competitors? Hertz would have to pay another rental company...

GIVE IT ME UNTIL IT HERTZ

Advantages: Speedy Service,Competitive Rates,Excellent Staff,Award FT points, No.1 Gold Cub
Disadvantages: None as yet, High re-fuelling prices

...***Update at bottom of Review****** I travel between Dublin and the UK on a regular basis and until recently used Avis for car hire to get me from the airport to my meetings. However my company decided to enrol us all in the Hertz #1 Gold Club, this meant switching our allegiance from Avis, this could be a big mistake! =THE HERTZ GOLD CLUB= This is similar to an airline FT scheme but also acts as a master rental agreement,so that you never need to sign of fill one in at the rental desks. On this they record insurances you want to accept, your prefered method of payment, airline FT number so that you get points with each rental. The Hertz Gold card also acts as a loyalty card, meaning every rental you have with Hertz earns points, which can be redeemed for car hire vouchers, also the more you rent then your card is...

Decent Car Hire From Hertz

Advantages: Good Quality Cars, Excellent Value for Money
Disadvantages: Watch out for the extras

...When my fiancee's brother was getting married this year, the car we had at the time was on it's last legs so i decided i would hire a car for the weekend to make sure that we made the wedding which was about 45 miles from where we stay. Also i thought it would be a bit more comfort for us than turning up in our poor old V W Polo, especially with our wedding outfits and other bags with us. I had received an email from Hertz Car Rental company who had got my details through my membership of the Nectar reward scheme. The offer was to do with renting out the new model of the Ford Focus which was newly released at the time. BOOKING THE CAR I clicked on a link on the email i had received which transferred me to the website www.hertz.co.uk. On the website you choose which kind on car you prefer, which in my case was the Ford Focus as...

Hertz - probably the worst car hire company in the world

Advantages: None
Disadvantages: Not properly informed about CDW & excess, massively overcharged for repairs

...A warning for all who book on line with Hertz. I recently had the misfortunate experience of a car hire with Hertz in Germany. That is to say that the car itself was fine, booking it on line and collecting it was OK. However, you do need to be very aware of the small print which caught me out to the tune of Euros 700. I booked and prepaid for the car on-line where there is a bold heading that says that all on-line bookings include CDW. My problems began here as I did not read every word on the Terms and Conditions and so missed the important fact that even if you have CDW there will still be an excess of Euros 600 - 5000. When I collected my car there was no discussion about this (Hertz customer service department have subsequently told me that it is not their policy to discuss this as their chech in representatives...

The Hertz #1 Club Rip Off

Advantages: good range of quality vehicles
Disadvantages: Loyalty Scheme is a scam

...Try this one for yourself and see how a "customer Loyalty Scheme" is actually a carefully crafted way of fleecing customers at the pick up desk. Having been recently ripped off by Hertz by getting a quote which was supposedly a discounted rate and then been stung for over £100 in insurance charges for 4 days as "the car was quoted without insurance and could not be driven", I decided to have a better look. I would point out that this was not the excess reduction charges but charges to be able to legally drive the car with an excess of around £600 still on it. Heres how it works. You go to the website (as I did this morning) and get a quote. I selected an Opel Zafira for 4 days in Mallorca. You get a price (in this case £78.93) which includes collision damage waver and theft protection. Optional items listed are Super Cover (at 11...

Review of Hertz

Hertz did what we asked of them.

Advantages: Clean car. It ran well. Great price.
Disadvantages: None.

...We had booked our hire car through expedia.com. They had quoted for a compact car $33 (18 pounds 15 pence) per day including taxes, from Hertz. When we arrived at Jacksonville airport, we were running late, due to our flight. Jacksonville, North Carolina is such a small airport that we only had a few steps to the Hertz counter. There was no one behind the counter. We started to look around, and a young lady hurried towards us. I had my paperwork out, and she pulled up our details. It only took her a few minutes to go over the contract with us, and for Len to sign the paperwork, as he was doing the driving. She asked if we wanted to pay for the gas, or bring the car back full. We were only planning on staying from Friday evening to Sunday morning, so said we would return the car full. She informed us of a garage two and a half miles...

Canon Ixus 100 IS - Small and oh so stylish

Advantages: Small, Stylish, Auto modes work well, Image Stabilization
Disadvantages: HD Video capability is disappointing

...The Canon Ixus 100 IS is the successor to the Ixus 85 IS model, now with 12.1 megapixels instead of the old 10. The 2.5" screen is retained, as is the optical viewfinder and the 3x zoom capability, but the Ixus 100 IS is packed with new features. Video can now be recorded in HD (720p format) and an HDMI port has been added for viewing your pics on the latest HD televisions. The 100 IS also gets a new DIGIC 4 processor, Autofocus Tracking and Auto Scene Detection! The dimensions have changed in proportion, being a whole millimetre wider than its predecessor, another millimetre taller, but 2mm slimmer with an incredible depth of only 18.4mm. The weight stays about the same at less than 130g and, being similar in size to an iPod, it is very easy to carry around in your shirt pocket/handbag. Indeed, the similarity with the iPod doesn...

100 Reviews = 100 Questions? Perhaps.

Advantages: There are some brilliant songs in there...
Disadvantages: I ramble on for too long about nothing of any interest...but please read anyway!

...Hello all of you lovely Ciaosters - and Mizzaholics alike - and welcome to my 100th review!
