Canon XL2
Review of Canon XL2 camcorder - Mini DV by
kollerto
Advantages: Easy to use for beginner, built in 16:9 field of view
Disadvantages: Heavy in prolonged use (3.545Kg), quite short battery life
...Canon suggests that the XL2 provides "unprecedented flexibility" for the digital camcorder user. So, how good is the XL2?
Straight out of the box the camera seems impressive. The build quality is good and each camera component feels strong and well built.
The supplied user manual leads you through the step-by-step assembly of the camera although some of the stages are not explained very clearly. However, the connection of each of the camera's components to the main body is very logical and could be undertaken without using the manual.
Once assembled the camera does feel quite heavy with the centre of gravity leaning slightly towards the front of the camera. Initially this is not a problem but with prolonged hand-held use the camera can start to feel a little too heavy.
The camera provides 3 1/3" progressive CCD sensors...

10000 days
Review of 10000 Days [Digipak] - Tool by
Bobster123
Advantages: See review
Disadvantages: See review
...It's going to be heavier. It's going to sound just like Meshuggah. They're dabbling in numerology. Danny Carey's taken his drumming to a new level entirely. It's going to be like nothing you've ever heard before from Tool.
So much talk. So many questions. So perhaps it's inevitable that 10,000 Days showcases a band in stasis. This is still the exact same band who made Lateralus, and to an extent, Aenima. Tool haven't changed at all in the four years between this and its predecessor. Disappointing? Not really. Who bought into all the talk, anyway? Surely we've all learnt by now that the majority of the talk surrounding Tool is guff. If we hadn't, then all the cries that the leak was a fake surely proved it. Seemingly, some Tool fans will do anything to prove that they know the band better than every other Tool fan does...

canon xl1
Review of Canon XL1 camcorder - Mini DV by
coxcomb1
Advantages: superb image quality
Disadvantages: weight
...The canon XL1 is without a doubt an excellent camera, though this is no reason to make a hurried buy. In my experience this camera is very suitable for specific purposes, but not for others. There are plenty of reviews telling you the good points about this camera, to which there are many, and the specs speak for themselves. But here are some things you may not have considered about it's suitability for specific purposes:
1) It's weight. The XL1 is a fairly heavy camera of substantial size, much bigger than it's fellow prosumer camera's. This does make it a sturdy, robust piece of equpment but it does make long day shoots at different locations very tiring. So consider: Are you buying a camera mainly for location shoots or will most of its time be spent in a studio? Will most of your work be shot handheld or tripod based...

Canon XL1S - A Camcorder For Serious Use!
Review of Canon XL1 S by
Torrence
Advantages: Interchangable lens, manual focus ring, shoulder mount, stereo sound
Disadvantages: Tape mechanism can be heard on some recordings
...The Canon XL1S is not your average camcorder. Its a 3CCD, Mini DV camcorder with interchangable lens facility, broadcast quality recording and enhanced manual functions - this camcorder is for users with professional needs.
It comes with a standard 20x Optical Zoom lens but can be modified and tuned to your own taste if need be with the use of the additional lenses available. The lens is sorted with Optical image Stabilizer which for a camera of such size is very useful and will always come in handy when using a 20x optical zoom.
Lenses like the XL Extender 1.6x , 3X wideangle zoom lens and not forgetting the XL Adapter making it compatible with the 35mm EOS EF Lenses.
Other accessories include microphone adaptor shoulder pads giving the facility to add XLR input microphones for voice overs on recording or additional sound...

FIREBALL XL5 - Blast from the Past.
Review of Fireball XL5 - The Complete Series (Box Set) by
Maximus-Qualitus
Advantages: Nothing offensive
Disadvantages: None
...Fireball XL5
I had vague memories of this from when I was a child (I was born 1964) and so I guess must have watched repeats but watching the DVDs brought the series back clearly.
Fireball XL5 was the fore runner of Stingray, Captain Scarlet and Thunderbirds.
This was on tv in 1962, and Contained 39 episode.
Synopsis:
Set one hundred years into the future, it is the year 2063, and the 300ft spaceship, fireball XL5 is out in space protecting sector 25.
Aboard the spaceship is colonel Steve Zodiac, the sexy blonde doctor Venus and the transparent robot called Robert.
At the end of most missions Robert the Robot would announce his catchphrase, "on our way 'ome", due to his inability to pronounce the letter 'H'.
Also aboard was Professor Matt who was a navigation mathematics genius, who had his own navigation bay on the ship...

ATI RADEON X800 XL. Nuff said.
Review of Club 3D Radeon X800XL by
china_wolf
Advantages: Cheap and fast and stuff!
Disadvantages: Crap box design. So ugly!
...Just when you thought it would be safe to peek around the door after NVIDIA and ATI were bombarding you with top of the range graphics cards, ATI takes a cheapshot and flings an ATI Radeon X800 XL card into your bollocks. You wouldn't press charges on them either, because this is one fine card.
Now, those of you familiar with the graphics war between ATI and NVIDIA will know that before this card there was the GEFORCE 6800 GT and GEFORCE 6800 Ultra from NVIDIA. and the RADEON X800 Pro and RADEON X850 XT PE from ATI. Those cards are what you call top of the range, the best cards are called the 'flagship' cards. Anyways, the problem with those super high speed cards has always been the same thing. No it's not heat or power requirements! It's the darn price!
'Price?' I hear you mumble to yourself in an attempt to look knowledgeable...

All Stand Up For XL
Review of Lee Evans - XL Tour - Live DVD by
gayna1979
Advantages: The Funniest Man in His Funniest Show
Disadvantages: None
...'s play Endgame alongside Michael Gambon at Londons Albery Theatre, and starred with Richard Dreyfuss as Leo Bloom in Mel Brooks' The Producers at the Theatre Royal in Drury Lane.
In 2005, Lee Evans returned to Stand up comedy, visiting major cities across the country, doing Britain's largest arena comedy tour "XL"
All stand up for "XL"
XL is Lee Evans' sixth live Video/DVD, and I would have to say that it is his funniest to date. It is hilarious, my boyfriend, his family and I were rolling around the living room laughing when we watched it. It was even funnier than when we saw him live, probably because we could hear it better.
Filmed in Cardiff, where the "Evans'" family originated, the atmosphere is electric as Evans' takes the crowd by storm with his superb comedy talent. This man is a pure comedy genius...

Looks Yummy - Tastes Satisfactory the XL-302
Review of Sony Vaio VGX-XL302 by
ben_keene
Advantages: Pc on your TV, Blu-Ray, High Def, 2 Tuners, Good Spec Components
Disadvantages: Size of Unit, Price, Not Simple to Set-Up, Power Hungry
...Welcome to my review of the Sony VGX-XL302 Media Centre PC.
This review will take about 20 minutes to read. I only write in depth reviews, so that you are fully prepared before you decide to buy one. I will be telling you what its capabilities are, what my personal feelings about it are, where I bought mine and what service I received and a host of other info which should help you when deciding to purchase.
Before you read on, this system is at its best when used with a High-Definition TV. Whilst it will work with standard definition TV's you will be paying for equipment that you won't be using. However, if you plan to upgrade your TV in the future, then this system will 'grow' into any other appliances you may purchase in the future.
I purchased my machine from a Sony Centre (The Galleries, Broadmead, Bristol), and whilst...

I bought this Tom Tom as every time I have to go somewhere that I'm not familiar with I get lost!
It cost me £299, which is a lot of money, but as it has the speed camera's on it, it helps me keep a clean licence, so to me its well worth the money. You can get them cheaper if you don't want the camera's on it, but as this was a treat to me I...

10,000 BC - The CGI is the star
Review of 10,000 B.C. DVD by
Maximus-Qualitus
Advantages: Visually Stunning.
Disadvantages: Same old Same.
...10,000 BC.
This will be a short review which is what this film deserves.
From the director of 'Independence Day' and 'The Day After Tomorrow' comes a film that is visually stunning.
The film starts with D'Leh as a young boy, when hunters return having found a young girl with blue eyes, Evolet
The witch of the village predicts that soon Warlords will come and attack the village. She also forcasts that the man, who the blue eyed girl choses as her husband, will save the village.
Evolet is taken by the warlords and D'Leh sets off on a quest that will involve love, honour, spirits, adventure, death, redemption and salvation.
Oh and along the way he will pick up an army.
The acting is not the best, but I suppose playing someone just above a caveman doesn't need Noel Coward.
The commentary that comes at intervals...
