Panasonic PT AX 100 E

Advantages: Works in relatively bright conditions, quiet
Disadvantages: unreliable, very big, short bulb life

...Updated review. I have been using the Panasonic PT AX 100E as my main TV, in conjunction with a freeview box and a DVD player, for just over a year now. I paid £900 for it then, but the price has dropped and even the improved PT AX200 can now be bought for about £700. The reason for the low rating is because of it's unreliability and Panasonic's inability to fix it when it went wrong, as described below. In all other respects it is a very good projector. The picture quality is extremely good in a dark room and quite watchable during the day even with the curtains open for all but the darkest movies. In bright conditions the colours can become a little washed-out although there are various viewing options on the remote control to compensate a little. For some very dark films however you should wait until the room can be blacked out...

High quality DVD, low price.

Advantages: Quality brand name and a low price with all the features you need to get you started
Disadvantages: If only it was recordable!

...The Toshiba SD100E was the second DVD player I have bought and in my opinion for the price it is the DADDY! For the price you can not get a better DVD player, it is a well known brand and it was at the time under £200 normally in this price range you would get a make you have never heard off. The main reason I bought the SD100E was the fact that it had been in ‘WHICH’ magazine as their months-star buy and for the price as well who was I to complain. When I got it home and hooked it up which was very easy, all I needed to do was scart it to the TV I immediately played The Matrix, which I had problems playing on my previous player. Supurb DVD performance

Advantages: Easy to use, quality feel to the build of the player, maximises enjoyment of DVDs.

...I bought the Toshiba SD-100E last December. I have found that it has greatly improved my viewing enjoyment of films. The unit is easy to use. The on screen menus are clear and easy to understand and navigate, and the intrustions for set-up were equally as clear. As a first time user of DVD I had no problems getting started. The performance of the player is simply superb. The pictures are so clear and sharp. The sound is spectacular. I have had a home cinema system for some time, and never have films ever sounded this good. In fact after viewing films on this player I have been unable to bare watching films on VHS. Even normal television appears poor. Overall, as an introduction to DVD you could not go wrong with this player....

Great machine

Advantages: Great picture, sound and overall quality

...My Toshiba SD-100E was bought for me as a Christmas present back in 2000 and I haven’t been disappointed with it yet. Mine’s a multi-region model, so it should (in theory) play discs from around the world, although I haven’t been able to test this feature because I don’t have any discs other than region 2. When I got it out of the box, it was really easy to set up. For the picture, you can connect it with a scart lead, s-video lead, or ordinary phono connection. For audio, you can connect left and right phono or coaxial and optical out. If your TV only has a scart socket, then the only option is obviously scart, which still gives cracking picture and sound. Fantastic multi purpose DV camera

Advantages: Everthing you would expect multiplied by 10.
Disadvantages: Low light, lowers the picture quality. But nightshot is great.

...I have always enjoyed videoing my friends and family. Like many people, when I do venture abroad I am filming constently. I used to use an old Sony 8mm video camera and recently upgraded to the PC100E. This DV Camera is unreal. The steadyshot feature is unshakable. The 0 LUX nightshot mode really means 0 LUX. Due to the megapixel CCD, the digital zoom (after 10x) is very good when compared to a lower spec DV camera. I also use this camera for photography, the sony memory sticks are easy to come by and the digital photo quality it brilliant. I don't use my 35mm still camera anymore. Also another feature which isn't mentioned much, is the ability to take analogue inputs to the camera!! You can convert your analogue movies into digital. Combined with a pinnacle studio editor, I am now able to produce broadcast quality films about anything...

First DVD Player

Advantages: Simple, easy to use, outstanding picture quality

...Having been a fan of films and being a prolific purchaser of VHS videos I decided many months ago that due to the relatively short life of a normal VHS tape I would start purchasing DVDs instead. The one thing, in fact the BIG one thing that annoyed me about VHS tape was how quickly they developed dropouts, you know those annoying white bars of interference across the picture. Having collected over 40 DVDs in the space of 3 months I decided that its time to invest in a DVD player, after many weeks of comparing various players I decided to purchase the Toshiba SD-100E (multi-region) from a local electrical retailer. I chose local as opposed to purchasing over the internet since they matched the cheapest price I could find on the internet and threw in some free inter-connect cables which I would have to had purchased separately...

A High End Player for Low End Money

Advantages: Cheap, Simple, Quality
Disadvantages: No onboard Dolby Digital Decoder, Remote is not the best

...can grab the SD100 for about £190 high street of £180 online. This player is a great buy if you are after a standard player with no frills. It sticks to the basics, Sound and Picture and Toshiba do this well. A great bargain but I still prefer the 2109....
