720p or 1080p? What's all that about??

I had spotted the Toshiba Regza 37" widescreen HD ready LCD TV on Amazon at a bargain 'hot offer' price of £448.00, its RRP being £699. It felt great being able to order a brand new TV using my Amazon vouchers, and it felt like I was getting something free, and also a nice reward for my efforts writing reviews, completing surveys etc. I ordered my TV on a Friday with free delivery, and it arrived on the following Tuesday. Make your old DVD's better!

...available. Full HD Tv's run at 1080p. The little p stands for progressive scan which gives a better quality of picture. If your TV doesnt run at 1080p then this DVD player isn't for you. It will full upscale DVD's to 1080p. There are DVD players that will upscale to 1080i only also. I love this DVD player. I have a huge collection of DVD's and now I feel I can fully appreciate them. The quality is much better. I think the difference is more evident on newer movies but still everything looks sharper and brighter. I have seen the quality of HD DVD's and I do not think the difference between them and upscaled DVd's is big enough to warrent the gap in price. Now the price is what will sell it to most people. Sony HDD+DVD recorder, 1080p upscaling.

Advantages: Perfect recordings in SD mode, even better in HQ mode. Goodlooking unit.
Disadvantages: Only one digital tuner, can't watch one channel whilst recording another

...Off air DVB-T recordings in SD are totally indiscernable from the original broadcast quality, that alone is very impressive, but even more so is that HQ mode, which records at a staggering 15mps seems to actually *improve" over the broadcast quality! And it is HQ mode recordings when being upscaled via HDMI (To a 40" panny 1080p) that it really is impressive, No smearing, true deep colours etc. But HQ mode cannot be burned to DVD, HQ recording mode is only available to the HDD. DVD playback is excellent. Minus points: No USB/network capabilities. CD playback is good but bass light. The default setting output is S-Video, had to rummage around menu to activate full RGB SCART, and Component. An excellent recorder, but sonics slightly lacking richness. 9/10...

LG 42PG3000 - Not 1080p But Too Good to Matter At This Price

Advantages: Amazing picture in both SD (the one you will watch the most) and HD (where it will blow you away)

Advantages: Crisp image, Pretty good audio, Lots of inputs, Great freeview.

Picture Quality: I'd done a bit of research beforehand and found that 1080p is usually found on 24 inch and upwards televisions. This means that there is a very high number of pixels per inch in this television and consequentially, pictures look very crisp.
