...This laptop is the Acer Extensa 5620-1A2G12Mi. The extensa is a new model from acer and although they have been working on it for over a year now it wasn’t until a few months ago that these laptops went on sale. I still don’t think that it’s a brand of acer laptops that most people will be familiar with yet however I think it will grow and they will get better and more and more people will buy them just like what happened with the travel mate and the aspires. Its basically a follow up from the Acer aspire however the aspires were made mainly to keep at home and for a laptop to use around the house. I wouldn't however recommend it for a young child or younger teenager as the screens are very fragile and its usually cheaper and easier to replace the laptop. Whilst I am going to rate this laptop by todays standards, my overall rating will not be based on comparisons but in the unit itself. Advantages: cheap, good quality laptop with decent features, upgradable.
Disadvantages: no bluetooth. memory will need upgrading if moving on to Windows Vista

...First off what an easy to use laptop full of built in features for a very reasonable price ( £349.99 upwards) was £380 when i purchased mine but is worth every penny. Why people pay in excess of £500 for machines with a lower spec is beyond me. Acer have come a long way in providing great quality laptops at a lower price. on first run you follow the setup options and then it recommends you create a restore disc i did this using 2 blank dvd's with ease just following the on screen instructions. once this was complete i did the windows updates to get it fully upto date. The inbuilt wireless adapter (Atheros AR5005G Wireless Network Adapter) connects so easy to my wireless network with a reasonable range even in the garden. ...I've had this monitor for quite some time now I bought it from aria.co.uk for about £130, I've used dell monitors in the past and there is no difference in quality at all, colours and picture quality are excellent. I use my pc to play games watch TV and DVD's and it's just perfect although a bit of brightness tweaking may make it look that little bit better when watching TV or DVDs. With a 12ms response time there is no ghosting on games (this is when the monitor can't refresh quick enough keep up with the frame rate some of the faster games require). The contrast ratio is 500-1 not bad at all for a monitor of this price it also supports resolutions up to 1280x1024, and is wall mountable. It also includes the cable to connect the speakers to your pc but I wouldn't bother there awful I assume there designed for office use only... Read review

...the power and utilities are still there. The keyboard is small, smaller than most as the creators have tried to squeeze everything down into a smaller unit and successfully so. The 12.1" TFT monitor is small but very clear, and after previous laptops I have owned, I was really impressed. You do have to have the screen pointing at certain angles to your eyes or the picture is unclear, but this usually is the case with notebook TFT monitors, so don't let this put you off! .... It is still expandable up to 2048Mb, and of cos, it's a DDR RAM. It's faster than the SD RAMs, duh! Compared to the iBook which can only support up to 640Mb Ram, this one is surely far ahead! The Hard disk capacity is claimed to be 40 GB 4200 rpm S.M.A.R.T. but it seems to only have around 37.9GB when i last checked it. The HD is from Toshiba( also used by Apple) and is shock proof. This model also comes with a CD-RW/DVD-ROM drive with a maximum speed of read 24x CD-ROM, 24x CD-R, 12x CD-RW, 8x DVD-ROM, 4x DVD-R, 4x DVD-RW, and writing is at 24x CD-R, 4x CD-RW. There's no burning capabilites for DVDs. It's just a combo drive. Burning CDs nw can be much faster compared to the external Benq CD burner which i previously had. ...At the time of writing, the Samsung VM8080CT is a brand new product, just starting to be supplied to retailers. If you search for it online you are unlikely to find many results. If you are interested in the product, I recommend you contact Microsmiths on 01908 546500 – they have the best price I have seen for it, currently selling it at £749+VAT. I have had the pleasure of being able to test this machine, and have to say that it is incredible for the price. It is a well built laptop, with a Celeron 800MHz processor, 128MB RAM, a 10Gb hard drive, 12.1” TFT display, CD-ROM drive, 56k modem, 10/100 LAN network card. It comes with Windows ME preinstalled as its operating system. Microsmiths also supply it with a 1-year European collect and return warranty.
