JVC Colour Television
Review of JVC C-JT 14 by  A.K.A

Advantages: Clear Picture
Disadvantages: Por value for money

...The only thing I knew about JVC is that it used to be the sponsor of Arsenal FC. I recently purchased a 14 inc television model C-JT14. The colour is silver and comes with a 12 month guarantee. This TV is over priced at £200 and does not come with many features. Theres no teletext and it is not a digital version. This TV though is very reliable and the picture is crystal clear. I purchased this from Dixons and although the staff were not very friendly I knew what I wanted and went for it! Overall not a too bad TV but cheeper makes i.e Panasonic/Sony seem to have more features and can be better quality.... Read review

A TV WHICH SEEM TO LAST FOREVER
Review of Panasonic TX21MK1 by  wulise

Advantages: Value for money
Disadvantages: None that I have found

...My husband loves TV'S that are of quality but at the same time value for money. For his 21st Birthday he was given a 14" colour TV. THAT WAS 17 YEARS AGO! This television has lasted well and the picture quality is better than some I have currently seen in the shops today. The only real problem is that it does not have a remote control, so you have to get out of bed to change channel! We were so impressed by the 14" that my husband brought a 21" TV for the lounge. If the staying power is anything like we have experienced, the next TV I buy will be a plasma screen. I also like the black TV surround rather than the silver which is fashionable today. The other good thing about this TV is that I can control the video with its handset. The nicam stereo is also a bonus, but I am affraid it washes over me. I would recommend this TV for its... bt vision
Review of BT Vision by  timme278

Advantages: hard drive, tv replay, cheap, record two things at once
Disadvantages: have to pay for some ondemand features, have to have a home hub

...a bt vision box is basicly a freeview box with a hard drive, but it has an on demand service tv replay: this means that if you have missed a show whilst you was out you can watch it in the next 7 days(only if it was on bbc) on demand: this is tv shows that come trought the internet, its like the bbc iplayer and 4 on demand but on your tv. The on-demand content includes hundreds of films, TV shows, music videos, sporting events, kids programs and soon hopefully some more soon. tv guide: you can look at whats goin to be on for the next 14 days<-- this is better than most tv mags the hard drive: it can store up to 80 hours of tv (that is like 30 casset videos) good points: huge hard drive on demand service tv replay cheap (unlike sky and virgin media) easy to use can recored 2 things at once bad points: have to pay for some on demand... Panasonic picture deserves applause
Review of Panasonic TC-14 S2 T by  smiley-helen

Advantages: Good picture, two SCARTs
Disadvantages: No in-between teletext feature.

...I bought this television set a few years ago so I've now fully tried and tested its performance. I bought it from Comet after seeking the sales assistants advice. To be honest I noticed that it was the most expensive 14ins tv on show and felt like I was being conned a bit but I fell into the trap. Since my initial dubiousness I've realised that the sales guy was abolutely right. He was trying to sell it on the grounds of it's good quality picture and sound and I think he was quite right. The picture is brilliant. We have four other 14ins tvs in my home (two goodmans and one toshiba) and it has the clearest least grainy screen. It also has an excellent feature called CATS that means that it automatically adjusts the colour and contrast according to the lighting of the room. It also has good sound. Most 14ins tvs have only one speaker... Read review

Matsui 14" Portable TV
Review of Matsui 1420 by  skrg28

Advantages: Cheap and it works
Disadvantages: Looks

...A while back I was looking for a small portable TV which I could stick in my spare bedroom for guests and more so to use with my PS2. After looking at a few I decided that a cheap TV would do the job and so arrived at the Matsui 14" Portable TV. This particular one is a 1420 T. I bought it for £60, more than enough to spend bearing in mind the usage it was going to get. The TV is the usual black plastic with vents all over the place. The plastic quality is far from great as you would expect but it is sufficient and looks reasonable enough. The screen is 14" which I think is about 34cm and runs at 50MHz, not the biggest or fastest but suitable for a portable without paying silly money for an LCD. In fact the screen is not even flat. Picture quality is surprisingly good on the TV with good colour definition and plenty of different... Read review

A Nice Little TV!
Review of Toshiba 14N21B by  richard_richard

Advantages: Good picture quality, features, value
Disadvantages: None really

...I was after a 14" TV to go in my spare room at home. I didn't have a huge budget, but I wanted a decent make of television, nothing too cheap and tacky. After hunting around Comet I came across this little Toshiba television priced at an attractive £99. I thought this looked like just the thing and so went ahead and purchased it! Features I reckon the features on the television are pretty good, considering the price. You get remote control, 100 channels, fastext, 7 text memory pages, scart socket, NTSC video playback, on screen display, AV inputs, panel lock and an off timer. The addition of the scart socket is useful as it allows you to run your video, digital receiver box or playstation through the television. This television comes in two colour choices, silver or a rather unusual blue metallic colour. They had no silver ones left... Read review

Looking for a 14' ?
Review of Sony KV14LM1 by  vtr1000

Advantages: Superior screen, all the functions + teletext + wodescreen mode
Disadvantages: Maybe the price.

...I was looking for a small tv for the bedroom and was settling for a Philips tv which was silver and had a curved screen. I'd searched Tottenhm Court Road HIgh Street Stores and the Internet. All tv's had curved screens and were priced £110 - £160. I had ordered a Philips and was lucky that Intersaver did not have any in stock. So it was back to the drawing board. I was in Hounslow and came across a Sony dealer and saw this stunning tv. Sexy silver and FLAT Wega screen. This was the boy. At only £169.99 it has everything. Flat screen NYSC playback through scart. Widescreen function. It craps on all 14' tv's. A must but for the best spec and looking tv.... Read review

Poor Poor Mastercare, Shame on Dixons
Review of Mastercare by  colinrj

Advantages: None. Maybe saving $50 callouts?
Disadvantages: Terrible service and not worth the money

...been repaired and would be returned the next day. It was returned but returned with a different fault. The TV had to sit faulty for another two days while we again waited for the TV to be inspected and another day for it to be collected. My wife demanded and received a loaner TV (not widescreen and not tuned in) two days later. Our eyes had been struggling with my sons 14" protable to that point. Fortunately, we have Sky and were able to receive all our normal channels. One week went by, then the next week we checked again with Mastercare. The TV was waiting for parts to arrive. The third week we rang again. This time we were told the parts had arrived and the TV would be delivered the next day. It was and it worked! We tried to get the loaner TV removed by the Mastercare people but again they said someone else had to take it away... Read review

Best 14" TV I've ever seen in my 15 years...
Review of Sony KV-14LT 1 by  surgilatoruk

Advantages: Excellent picture, sound and build quality - You get what you pay for
Disadvantages: Fairly heavy

...As my main Christmas present for Christmas 2000, I was given a Goodmans Matrix 14” portable TV in Ice Blue. It wasn’t exactly what I wanted, however at the time due to family circumstances my mum bought this as a present in a rush and I was grateful at the time for this TV, and although I did want a nicer, higher quality TV I was happy with this TV. However, two major gripes I had with it was lack of teletext (a must for me!) and also the screen was curved so much that viewing it from an angle in bed was a pain in the neck (literally!). Therefore, from my Christmas and birthday money earlier this year, as well as my allowance I had saved up, I decided to replace my TV with one that I would be happier with. My requirements was a television with a near-flat screen and teletext as a priority, and my second “look-out” was for the TV... Read review

Why I dont believe in it
Review of The main channels - TV Licence by  joncr

Advantages: No adverts
Disadvantages: A non-means tested tax.

...(realtime video recorder) and skip through them to the next program. In practice, the 133m per year spent on TV detector vans criminalises people who cannot afford a TV licence. I'm employed and can afford the licence but I've been on the dole in the past and there was no way I could afford a TV licence on $70 a fortnight. This meant I was committing a criminal act by watching TV! The argument against this is "ahhh - you shouldnt have a TV if you cant afford the licence". A cheap 14" portable is no longer a luxury item and not having the money to pay a TV licence now does not mean that you didnt have the money to buy a TV in the past. Watching TV is no longer a luxury and is part of a modern developed society. My main argument against the Licence is this: If there were two ways to view the BBC channels; one free channels package... Read review
