Why why why? Because then you have to stick your hand in the cold slimy water to fish about in the plug hole and I'm always frightened of what I might pull out. I'm never sure why my sink blocks it's not like I do anything naughty. I don't put oil or fat down the plughole neither do I purposely let food scraps go down. But I will confess that rather than pick any debris from the plughole with my fingers I have been known on occasions to get a chopstick and shove it down the plughole!!!!
