A nail biter's tale
Review of Boots 17- Fast Finish Nail Polish by
mgrigsby
Advantages: Cheap and cheerful
Disadvantages: A bit thick and not the classiest-looking product
...Being a reformed nail-biter I always wear nail varnish. That was how I stopped biting my nails in the first place - every night I would remove that day's varnish and apply a base coat, coat of coloured varnish and then top coat secure in the knowledge that there was no way I would be able to chew my way through three coats of varnish the following day. The following night I would repeat the process - time consuming I know but it worked.
That was about ten years ago and since then I have tried just about every make of nail varnish you can mention and virtually every colour, but no matter how many times I'm tempted away by the likes of Chanel, Lancome or Versace (a moment of madness that one!) I always return to my favourite - Boots No 17 Fast Finish - One Coat Nail Varnish - Dries in 60 Seconds.
It's not a particularly stylish...

Nice nails for a change!
Review of Boots 17 High Gloss Nail Varnish - Cocoa Cabana by
frankiecesca
Advantages: Nice colour and easy to apply
Disadvantages: Chips easily
...I don't really think of myself as a girly girl and don't really buy a lot of cosmetics. I am not one for normally going out and buying nail varnish either as I bite my nails and shock horror, even sometimes the skin around them!! Yes you heard me right!
So recently I've been surprised myself to realise that my nails have actually grown quite a bit and because of this it has spurred me on not to bite at them or the surrounding skin. To help me in this quest I decided to actually go out and buy some pretty nail varnishes that I could then use to highlight how nice my hands would look if I stopped biting them all together! My husband and best friend were both quite surprised to say the least when I told them I had actually gone into Boots and bought 4 varnishes in one go! Three of these were the Boots 17 brand, one of which I am going...

Hot pink = hot nails!
Review of Boots 17 High Gloss Nail Varnish by
frankiecesca
Advantages: Colours and cheap
Disadvantages: Can chip easily
...I recently bought a selection of nail varnishes from the Boots 17 high gloss range to paint my newly grown and unbitten nails and one of them was this one. The shade is 'Miami' and is a hot pink colour.
The varnish:
The varnish as mentioned is from the 17 range and is one of the 'high gloss' shades which to me says it should be of a shiny and glossy like finish once painted on. I do find it has a shine to it but maybe not as much as I expected.
The bottle:
The varnish comes in a rather bog standard looking bottle - it has a cylinder type bottle that is about average for nail varnish at 12ml and has a navy coloured top that unscrews. The bottle is simple with just a clear sticker around it that highlights the shade, name, brand and applications instructions.
Application:
The bottle states to 'shake well' and to 'apply 2...

The nail polish that lives up to it's name!
Review of Boots No.17 Rock Hard Nail Varnish by
Oblivia
Advantages: Price, pretty colours, quick drying, really lasts for 4 days!
Disadvantages: Not that many colours
...I've probably tried every long-lasting nail polish going and found that they don't last at all! With the weather getting warmer, I decided it would be nice to be all girly and start painting my much neglected nails. Off to Boots I went, where I discovered 17 Rock Hard nail polish.
Looks: The poilsh comes in a clear, rounded bottle with a dark blue lid. On the front it says: 17 (in a circle) Rock Hard Nail Polish in sliver, then the barcode running up the side. On the back is it's claim: Hard-wearing colour with stamina! High shine colour that lasts up to 4 days. Chip resistant. Apply 2 to 3 coats. The colour I got was called 'Pinking Shear'. It's a gorgeous, very girly pale irredescent pink. In some lights you can see a lilac shimmer to it. Lovely! As well as this colour, there are also other pinks, reds and purples and a couple...

Clubwear for Nails, or rather not....
Review of Boots No.17 Hi-Glow Nail Polish by
sienna501
Advantages: none
Disadvantages: Gets everywhere, watery based and turns out streaky!
...Im writing this opinion to warn other mad clubbers like myself that if you see this product not to use it! After walking into Boots and seeing 'Boots 17 Hi-Glow Clubwear for Nails' for sale it tempted me to try it out, well seen as UV was in fashion at that point i decided to give it a go.
After applying two or three coats which in normal light looked perfectly fine i went to a club with UV lights in it and was shocked to see that i had white streaks everywhere, all over my hands and my nails looked horrific! This nail varnish is so watery based it tends to get EVERYWHERE including your hair and clothes. With this product it is impossible to produce even coats of polish and your hands turn out looking like a complete streaky mess.
This nail varnish was on special offer, now i can see just why....

Sexy Seductive Professional Nails
Review of Elegant Touch Acrylic Nail Kit by
purebitch
Advantages: Look realistic, Last for weeks
Disadvantages: Can be painful removing them
...Do you long to have perfect nails? Or have you already got them? If you answer yes to the second question, then this op could still benefit you. If you answer yes to the first question, then read on, this will definately benefit you!
Sorry guys, unless you are buying a present for someone female, this op will be of no use to you at all.
I bite my nails. I have always done it, but lately I have been trying really hard to stop. I managed to stop biting my nails for a month, and they all looked lovely. One by one, they all snapped and broke and I couldn't keep my teeth away from the rough edges. I have used false nails, on and off, since I was about 17 years old.
Usually I buy the cheap 99p ones, and they do the job. For once I decided to treat myself and buy a more expensive set. I bought an acrylic set, which are suppose to look...

Prepare for a night of nail - watching.
Review of Boots 17 Lasting Fix Nail Polish by
thirteenth-sunday
Advantages: Good for a night ...
Disadvantages: ... but not for any longer
...I tried this nail polish because it was *relatively* cheap. However, value for money, it is not. I'm a bit of a goth, so I'd bought the black shade, and I was using it every day. The first annoyance was the fact that I HAD to apply two coats, or my nails would seem to be a sort of dead, greyish streaky colour. Which, even by my standards of fashion, is not a good thing. I was also forced to apply it before I went to bed - it took so long to dry that applying it in the morning was completely out of the question. Even though I knew I would be using it everyday, I hadn't bargined on the massive change in its ease of application. To begin with, it was runny, perhaps a little too runny, but I normally got away with it. However, four or five days in, it seemed to have begun to harden within the bottle - it normally took me about half an hour...

CHERRY NICE NAIL ENAMEL
Review of Avon Nailwear Nail Enamel by
junkboxjules
Advantages: Wide variety of colours, vibrant shiny gloss, often available on special offer
Disadvantages: Only available from Avon, chips after 2/3 days
...noticeable.
As I still only have short nails, I didn't think that the colour looked as nice on my nails as it would have done on long nails, however I was very pleased with the overall colour and quality of the product and would have no hesitation in recommending it. Remember if you don't like it you can always return the product to your Avon Representative for a full refund or exchange.
A 12 ml bottle of Avon Nailwear 2 costs £5.00, however as with many other Avon product this product is often available on special offer, in fact it is currently on offer as part of a buy two for £6.00 offer in Avon Campaign 17 so it you want to try it now is a good time.
The Dusky Cherry shade is Avon Product Number 25593.
For further information on this or any other Avon product you can either telephone Avon on 0845 345 8444, write to them at Avon...

J17 - J 17 or Just 17
Review of J 17 by
smile
Advantages: Good for teens, tackles current problems with a good approach, latest news, gossip, fashions
Disadvantages: expensive, many adverts
...J 17 – is it ‘J17’, ‘J 17’ or ‘Just 17’? Over the last few years, its name seems to have changed numerous times; can’t they make up their mind? Unfortunately, they also cannot make up their minds about the price. When I first bought the magazine, it cost me about £1.40 – far too expensive, yet now, for the same magazine, it is an astonishing £1.90. Lucky for me, my parents pay for it, because I can honestly say I doubt I’d waste £1.90 a month on a magazine, however popular/good/fashionable it is.
The magazine is usually about 122 pages long, with on average, 18 of these being taken up with adverts. Although annoying in principle, the prices would be even higher without them, and what they do actually advertise, is relevant to teens, and I have occasionally bought a new...
