Review of All About Me
Advantages: funny, poignant Disadvantages: bitty, not told in a normal ?story? way!
...get the impression that?s exactly why he does it!
One of my favourite bits of the book was when Rosie joins a divorcees? chatroom. Alex?s nickname for her is Buttercup, so she signs on with that name.
Here?s a snippet:
Divorced1: Well, trust me, it?s harder * with * kids. Unfortunately my rugrats are the spit of my husband and when I look at them I just want to strangle the little bastards. Do your kids look like your ex, UnsureOne?
UnsureOne: Yes and no. Some people say they do and others say they don?t. I?m not too sure really ?
Wildflower: Let?s not be rude, guys, and introduce ourselves to Buttercup. I?m 62 years old, I?ve 5 kids and my husband left me last year.
Buttercup: Oh, how awful. I?m sorry.
Divorced1: HA! No need to be sorry, cupcake. The man had good reason to leave her; she was sleeping...
Advantages: I'm an interesting character! Disadvantages: A few questions overlap previous challenges
...'m boycotting it!
36. Favourite Sesame Street Character:
There are so many great characters! Let's count them - Oscar the Grouch, that's 1, hahaha, Cookie Monster, that's 2, hahaha... Get the picture? The Count rocks!
37. Favourite Fast Food Restaurant:
Hmmm, I don't really go for fast food, but if I have to choose then it's KFC.
38. When was your last hospital visit?
I don't really recall. I gave blood a couple of times last year, although that wasn't technically a hospital visit. Oh wait, I visited Stepping Hill hospital when my sister gave birth a year ago this Sunday.
39. What colour is your bedroom carpet?
Dark blue
40. How many times did you fail your drivers test?
I'm embarrassed to admit this, but, 6! I almost passed first time, but some bozo decided to cut inside and overtake me just as I was coming over myself...
Advantages: See more Wall and scenery Disadvantages: Hard on the feet and It's often peeing down
...and later sections reduced to a thickness of 2.3m. At the same time the order went out to incorporate forts within the Wall (rather than behind it) and this involved the demolition of hundreds of meters of newly erected wall!
Until the 18th century, there were many parts of the Wall standing to a height of 3.5m but I have yet to see any part above 2m in height.
Forts were of 2 sizes: 2ha (holding 1,000 infantry or 500 cavalry) or 1ha (holding 500 infantry).
Milecastles were 18m x 21m (holding 32 soldiers).
Turrets were 6m square (holding 4 soldiers).
Most of the donkeywork and fighting on the wall was carried out by auxilliaries (units of non-Romans) rather than by the legions, which comprised of Roman citizens....
