...I have previously purchased a Freecom 500 GB external drive drive and have been very happy with it's performance and reliability. So when the drive started to become 80% full it was time to look for some additional storage. I saw the new Freecom 1TB drive on Amazon and given my previous good experiences purchased one straight away. It arrived this morning (Tuesday) having ordered in the previous Friday, and all of this post free. For anyone that hasn't bought a Freecom external hard drive before, you get a very stylish drive unit, power adapter, leads and installation disk. Installing (in my case) took less than 5 minutes, most of the time was spent unpacking the pieces. Simply attached the usb lead, power pack and switched on. ...This is a bargain that i couldn't pass up without buying. 1TB should keep me going for several years and more. I bought this hard drive for £101 and it has been a pleasure to use. It's a doddle to set up and install and the fast rate of transfer makes file sharing very efficient and easy. Design The portable hard drive comes in an attractive silver case that has USB2 and FireWire 400 ports. It is a desktop drive and cant really be moved around due to its size. Installation The instructions were easy to follow and it installed by windows wizard as soon as i plugged it in, so within 20 minutes i was backing up my files. I have networked computers so use it for back up and storage, which makes it easy for the networked computers to access the same data from one unit. ...There is only so much I can say about the hard drive in terms of use. Basically, a hard drive is a hard drive and this functions as well as any other. However, I have had no problems with use of the drive or loudness. The hard drive excels in it's basic, yet perfectly functioning, no-frills-attached features and it's low-end price (£84.99). with computing hardware, as with any market, you tend to get what you pay for. However, Samsung are the forerunners in a rapidly growing initiative to provide good-quality hardware at affordable prices. Let's not forget that other 1TB hard-drives can stretch up into the hundreds without offering any bonuses in terms of speed or reliability. I have never installed a hard-drive prior to buying this, but found the instructions so easy to follow that I was able to do it myself and format... Read review

...This unit is incredibly enticing. Most units, although 1TB, only allow 0,1 RAID. This means that in RAID 1 (mirror mode) you can only get 500 Gigs. This Iomega unit allows you get 750 Gigs in RAID 5 since it has 4 drives. More cost effective storage space! Advantages: Good quality, WD brand, nice design, very good price, silent, robust and resistent
Disadvantages: USB2.0 is relatively slow, formated as FAT32

...use it only with Windows Vista/2008 and occasionally XP I've reformated it with NTFS. Don't worry is a simple and fast process. Also due to the binary conversion the actual usable space when plugged in is 931 GB, but any 1TB HDD will show the same. So just small nuisances, no serios cons. It's a great overall product, and the price is really good.... Read review
