My new Tent: The Gelert Twister 3 Man tent

...As anyone who has ever spent a single night in a tent, the manufacturer's description of the number of people a tent will accommodate is based on the number of people who can lie down in the empty tent. Therefore, a one person tent is only going to be suitable for a small person who travels light. I received the Gelert Twister 3 for Christmas and had to wait for a dry day to try it out. That day came this weekend and I took it out to the hills behind the town to pitch it and check it out. This is one of a new breed of tent that boasts a quick pitch feature, it comes packed in a flat disk shaped bag rather than the rolled tent that most people are familiar with. Gelert Rocky 2 - Fantastic Little Tent

Advantages: Lightweight, Easy to Erect, Great Value
Disadvantages: Porch uncovered when front door open

...I bought this tent for a 2 night stay for just myself to use. I bought it from Go Outdoors for just £25 although other websites and shops sell them at a little more than this, most of them retail at around £35. First of all it comes in a neat little carry bag which took up hardly any room at all in my car!!! I decided not to attempt putting up the tent before i went away as i normally do so i have some idea of how it goes together!! I decided it shouldn't be too difficult as it was only small....i was right, it was easy to put up and didn't take long at all. For a two man tent it has a good sized storage area or porch at the front. The ground sheet in the porch is also sewn in which saves extra faffing once the tent is up. I could easily lie down in the tent and another person would easily have fitted in there with me too...

A 4 man tent with no men! (HONEST)!!

Advantages: Just a cool looking, well designed and functional tent.
Disadvantages: None for me.

...With T in the park weekend over and a great time had by all, I thought I would review the tent that was my home for the weekend. The tent in question was a Confidence Mars 4 Man Waterproof Dome Tent and although it is a 4 ?MAN? tent there were only me and my two girlfriends staying in this one (well that?s my story and I am sticking to it)! Now I am no camper so I cannot really give too much comparison between this tent and any other except to say it was worlds apart from the old tents I used to camp in as a kid. This tent has one separate bedroom compartment with zippers which would have been useful if any of us had picked up some guy and needed a bit of privacy (BUT WE DIDNT)!! It also had air vents so whilst being completely waterproof it did not become sweaty and therefore wetter inside than it was out, possibly the best thing...

...I already own 2 "normal" tents, but went on a 7 day bike race where i needed to put up and take down the tent 7 days in a row. I splashed out £45 for a "pop-up" tent. The thought of it errecting itself was very appealing!! Sceptical at first, I popped the tent out of it's bag and pegged it down with 4 pegs.....job done......in about 60 seconds. I couldn't believe it could be so easy!!!! Once the tent is up it is like any other, with an inner and outer sheets (don't go for the cheap single skin ones). It has vent to help reduce condensation, although some did form, but then i've never been in a tent where there was no condensation!!! Gelert Solo in the field

Advantages: lightand compact/sturdy and comfortable
Disadvantages: inner pitches first

...I am a regular backpacker and walker and the trade off between weight and space in a tent is perfectly balanced here. At a tad over 1kg the solo straps neatly onto the outside of most packs/bergens. The only downside is the necessity to pitch the inner tent first but putting the whole rig up takes less than 2 mins if you are against the weather. There is plenty of room to move about and the tent has been well thought out when it comes to little details like a strop to hang a lantern from, inside. I am 6ft tall and had no problem propping myself up to rread in bed at night. The porch was big enough for my pack and the full length insect net in the inner tent has allowed me to have a cool night in the heat of the summer. I last used my tent in an october gale and rainstorm and it's low profile and sturdy construction kept me warm...

Review of Gelert Solo Single Pole Backpacking Tent

The Gelert Solo - Stubborn in the best possible manner!

Advantages: Lightweight, Small Pack Size, Durable, Attractive Design
Disadvantages: Small living/ sleeping space; Flysheet not easily secured to inner; Inner-First pitching

...tie any decent knot. As a result the inner tends to droop a little and in a storm can collapse. As for stability, the wind doesn't flow right past it like it isn't there but this tent can take a beating! In a breeze and low wind the tent does nothing. In a full on mountain gale the tent ripples with such ferocity I was sure it must tear apart. But, come morning, my Gelert Solo was in one piece whereas my companions Gelert Mongoose (basically the same tent just a 2-man version) had sustained damage. The groundsheet will keep dampness out from the ground, and although cnodensation is a big issue in winter, in the summer it's not so bad. One unpredicted advantage must be that the mesh inner is a great way to ease you out of a phobia of creepy-crawleys! Knowing they can't get you is wonderful and you can just flick them away! Gelert Solo Review

Advantages: Sturdy/Practical/Lightweight/Cheap

...I have owned a Gelert Solo since May 08 and have used it on a weekly basis until Nov 08 in Snowdonia. The Solo costs peanuts and the next tent of comparable ability is twice as expensive. The tent is double skinned, so you don't wake up at 4am in a wet nylon mess. At 1.5kg it is very light and the Solo's carry bag is as big as two rolled up newspapers. It ACTUALLY fits in it's zip up bag and has a repair kit in a zip pouch within. This small pack size means it straps neatly on any number of places on your bergen ("pack ", to you civvies!). To pack the Solo actually inside your bergen would be no drama either and it is ideal for all you cycling and canoe freaks who delight in shaving your legs, or drowning in rapids. The tent has two poles. a big one and a small one, so even in the dark you can't mess up. The inner pitches first...

Family Tent or Just for two?

Advantages: Good size, Weather Proof, Easy to put up
Disadvantages: Not sure enough space for whole family on a long camping trip

...of four was just saying somewhere for 1 or 2 nights the space would be sufficient too. The smaller bedroom however can be removed, so if you were to buy an extra groundsheet and sleep 4 people in the main bedroom, then you would have plenty of space to store things and sit four people if it was to rain. As an overall comment i would say this tent is a good sized tent, weather proof, and ideal for familys. I was pleased with it....

Lichfield Cherokee Tunnel 2 Tent

Advantages: value for money, ease of erecting, space, ventilation, weight

...I bought this tent from a discount online store. This is a tunnel tent and relies entirely on being properly pegged to stay erect but once it's pitched I found it more stable in the wind than any dome. On my own I can have it up in 5 minutes. The living area is almost the same size as the inner tent and big enough to kneel up in. The tent comfortably sleeps 2 adults and accomodates 2 adults and a small child. The living area sets it apart from any dome tent especially for camping in the UK where the weather is so unpredictable. You could easily cook and spend a few hours in there without feeling uncomfortable! It's also good for cycling as bikes and luggage can be stored in the front and it only weighs 4.2kg which is a good bit less than similar makes. Inner tent has a lot of vents; good for summer but if it's cold...
