The Belkin claims support for scrolling mice but I did find sometimes one PC would start up without recognising this facility if it wasn't the currently selected one when booting up and in extreme cases, wouldn't recognise the keyboard and mouse at all. Previous KVM's I've used send the PC fake 'There's a keyboard and mouse here' messages when not selected and it seems this unit does not, which is a pity. Conclusion The Belkin 2 port KVM is a well built unit that works nicely and provides a great way to save desk space and the cost of a second monitor, keyboard and mouse. The long leads are useful and despite the niggles with scrolling mice and the lack of manual switch. I'd say this unit is worth considering at this price if you can live with those shortcomings...

...of leads in to each PC. The F1DL102P has PS/2 leads for the keyboard and mouse but a USB version is also available. The audio support is limited to a single stereo jack and microphone input but given the market this is aimed at, I can't really see the lack of multi-channel audio support to be a problem. The monitor, keyboard and mouse are then connected to the KVM to complete the set up. One bugbear is that like the vast majority of KVMs, this Belkin unit has cables going in one end and out the other making it difficult to place on a desktop without having cables hanging out everywhere. However, there is no reason why you can't just tuck it out the way out of sight as it has no parts you'd normally need to access. 5 USB 2 PORTS - FRONT & BACK

...Now this is similar to the other Trust Front USB panel review I have done. However with this product we find an additional USB PCI card. Ok so what does that mean to me I ask you hear. Well basically with the other front panel you had to have existing USB ports on the back of your machine and use those for the panel with a link through lead. With this one you install a new USB card into a spare PCI slot (the long white slot inside your motherboard) and then run an internal cable to the front panel. I inherited an old Duron 800 from my daughter who is a teacher - she kept the monitor and the speakers and the mouse (I bought for Christmas!) and the strange keyboard that bends in 2. I saw this strange article in one of the PC Weeklies about KVM's and I thought, that will never work! but it sat at the back of my mind until the Duron turned up. KVM stands for Keyboard, Video, Mouse. The purpose of a KVM unit is to connect a single keyboard, monitor and mouse to a certain number of computers. The Switch2 just connects 2 computers to one keyboard, monitor and mouse. I believe they can be had for any number (16?) computers. How confusing can this be? (Oh and they are seriously expensive.) Two Computers?

Advantages: Easy to set up, and inexpensive
Disadvantages: None so far

...plug your existing monitor, mouse and keyboard. Coming out of the unit are two cables, one longer than the other. Each cable is for one computer, and it terminates in the the usual three colour-coded connectors. So five minutes and the job is done. Switching from one computer to the other is done from the keyboard, by pressing Ctrl (twice), then 1 or 2. Or there are other possibilities that I haven't explored. As the unit has been around for some time, there are quite a number of reviews on the net, and some say that the use of the Ctrl key causes problems if you also use it for copy and paste. I have tried but have failed to find any difficulties in this area. I plan to use the slower PC for word-processing only, or maybe I'll use it to experiment with Linux ....

Disadvantages: weird bug sometimes leaves "shift" key pressed if you use the keyboard shortcut switch method

...the inactive PC to think all is well in the input world. Even better, if you are too lazy to learn to reach over and click the switch to swap PC's, you can do it from a keyboard shortcut - hit Shift+Scroll Lock twice, the unit will beep, then press 1 or 2 to go to PC 1 or 2, it really is that simple. It's remarkable how quickly you get used to this arrangement, and it becomes second nature which helps productivity increase as you flit from PC to PC. Downsides? Well there is only one - sometimes when I use the keyboard shortcut to change PC, for some reason the keyboard registeres that "shift" is still pressed down (even though it isn't) - I only notice when a mouse-click selects a group of items when I don't want it to! ...Over the years I have purchased several items from Mobile Fun. Initially they were things like cases, batteries, etc. The speed of the service is always excellent at super prices and well packed. The web pages show you exactly what the product looks like from many angles. Then last March I purchased a SIM free - unlocked Sony Ericsson P1i mobile from them at a very reasonable price. The device arrived quickly and as described on their website. It is truely SIM free and I can use it on any network including 3, though I have finally settled on O2 porting my number to them. Recently I consulted Mobile Fun on an after service care issue, they were prompt sorting my issue out. I won't shop anywhere else for mobile products in future. Highly recommended....
