Toyota Celica 2.0 GTI 16V 1993 'K' Reg'

The model I?m describing here is a ?K? reg 1993 5th generation, 2.0 16v GTI, 3SGE engined front wheel drive version of this wonderful car; it has 154 BHP on tap and is in a non turbo form. The reason for the GT4 coming about with its 200 odd HP output is because there was too much power for just a 2 wheel drive car to handle, torque steering and wheel spin being major drawbacks to power being put down on the road. So split into 4 wheel drive (GT4) evened out the power, thus enabling major upgrades in performance to be had by this body design. VW MK5 Polo GTI 2000 - 2001

Advantages: Small, nice to drive, nippy
Disadvantages: expensive to buy, hard to find, poor gearboxes

...alive. Now due to the fact there arent many of these cars around, replacement gearboxes are almost impossible to find. There have also been a few reports of the cam belt tensioners failing. There havent been enough reports however for either VW or VOSA to issue a recall. The cambellt however should be replaced every 60,000 miles anyway so for most people it wouldnt be a problem. The Polo GTI should be serviced every 10,000 miles which is quite low considering Peugeots and Renaults are every 20,000. The GTI is group twelve insurance so not cheap for what it is, especially if you are a younger person. The fuel consumption averages aorund 32 MPG, which isnt great but its really not that bad. You can get aorund 300 miles out of a 37 litre tank Right thats all i can think of for the technical talk, back to my personal opinion...

FAST FORD GTi ON A BUDGET

Advantages: quite nippy 115bhp engine. looks great. cheap to obtain.
Disadvantages: repairs can be pricy, problems with coolant system

...This car is fantastic. we have had it for now for 3 years. The car has enough space for 5 people to sit comfortably or even with a child seat in the back, two passangers can still be comfy. The boot has a good amount of space too. The front passenger has good space, movable chair to go higher or lower and can move quite far forward or back or can be reclined to a comfortable seating posistion, it's the same for the Driver's side. The Cd Player can have a 6 Cd Changer installed in the boot or have as a single Cd Player, it aslo has a Cassette tape and Radio. The Engine runs quietly and smoothly, youd never know the engine was turned on! The Battery comes in a 2.0 emblembed cover. The Doors at the back can have Child Lock on and so can the Back windows. Im not sure that peugeot should even have tried to bring out a car under the 20# genre after their exceeedingly popular 205 model but, they did anyway and also brought their successful diesel along with it! The Americans and the Australians have a simple recipe for producing a car with decent performance and plenty of mid-range 'oomph'. They work on the principle of 'there ain't no substitute for cubic inches' and drop in the biggest engine that will fit. VW Polo GTi as a 2nd hand Car

Advantages: Nippy for a small engine size, good handling, good build quality, tons of equipment!
Disadvantages: Gearbox bearings can wear between 60 and 80k, pedal box recall, bbs alloys corrode easily.

...I bought my W plate Polo GTi in October 2006 and decided to write a review covering what you should look for if you are looking to buy a 2nd hand Polo GTi. I did a lot of research while I was looking for my car and feel that this knowledge could be a great help to others. I'll do the basic information first. The Polo GTi was only ever made in 3 colours, Red, Silver and Black - any other coloured car you may see badged up as a GTi will either be an import or an engine conversion. Luckily for me, thanks to my mother?s work circumstances, this is free ? unfortunately, learner drivers should expect to pay up £6000 for insurance on this car. The Golf GTI is a beast ? about a tonne of metal and smooth German engineering. Being a diesel car only adds to the power under the hood, and some may find 6 gears a little daunting. The gearbox is smooth, as is the power steering. The controls are user-friendly and accessible. The pedals are very responsive ? I would say that the breaks, in my car at least, are just a touch too sharp. The clutch pedal throbs just a tiny bit, not enough to be noticeable or off-putting but enough to appreciate the engine. My Little GTI

...I fell in love with my little beast when i saw here advertised by the dealer on the website. I drove round that afternoon and as soon as i saw it i knew i was gonna buy it. I was a little worried as i'd had a Golf GT TDI bedfor and didn't tihnk it'd be up to the same spec. As it was a little car i thought it'd feel cheap and stuff. The test drive went well, the car was responsive and handled like a little go-kart, ideal!!!
