...This model now seems defunct, however, the new archos (av700) seems large and cumbersome. The massive screen just seems impractical for it's portability. If a simple video/music player is what you are looking for then this is the answer. The price has come down a lot recently. The software does seem slow and songs can take a while to load when the harddrive is full. but the information that is displayed is relevant and the sound quality is good. Some features that are not immediately noticable are the button lock and in built speaker toggle, which is available when the each of the option buttons are held down for 2 seconds. The cradle is a great feature, allowing direct from TV recording....

...I have been an ipod fan since they first came out and to be honest had never really heard about the Archos mp3 players. However last year I was given one as a gift and at the time I was thinking id rather have an ipod any day. But after using I discovered the qualities the Archos has. For a start the design looks very nice, its silver small and very tidy. However it does tend to seem fragile as I was afraid that I might drop it or scratch the screen. Hence immediately I brought a cover from eBay which cost me £20 but its better than damaging an item worth £200. 20GB is more than enough to store music but when you have videos to store it can be a problem. Ipod 20gb with Click Wheel

Advantages: Light, stylish, great storage space, robust
Disadvantages: Poor battery life, easily scratched

An additional battery pack can be purchased which you connect through the docking point and it sticks to the back of the ipod though I found it increases the bulk of the ipod and is not really that effective. I would only recommend using it on long journeys or if you will not have the oppertunity to recharge your Ipod. The battery fully charges in a couple of hours and can be charged in 3 ways: by a mains adapter, through a USB post on a PC or through a Firewire port on a PC. Getting songs on to the Ipod is fairly easy, the iTunes software automatically converts all your songs and you can have it automatically update your ipod or only update the songs you want which saves time. Overall I highly recommend the ipod 20gb as it is a much cheaper option to the new photo ipod which unless you really want to store...

...As a fairly new user to mp3 players I was quite skeptical on spending 150 pounds on a new mp3 player. After experience with a cheaply bought mp3 player from Ebay, which ruined 3 sets of headphones, consumed AAA batteries like water and a horrific loading time, I was ready to move on, but the question was to which mp3 player? After narrowing down the mp3 players that were on the market, the Creative Zen Sleek was against the Ipod Mini. For me the main factors were: Size, HDD space, Design, Functionality, Battery Life and Cost. Size: The size of the Zen Sleek and the Ipod Mini are almost the same, although the zen does weigh a negliable difference, it is almost unnoticably different size wise. ...impressed by the quality of video playback. Another feature on this device is the ability to view photos and pictures and to store data. I know that now 20gb is not a lot of storage space for an mp3 player, but I found this amount to be more than enough. I would say that overall this is a good portable media player if you're looking for one that can store plenty of music and playback video files well. I would recommend this device if you don't mind the slight bulkiness of the design, and the included headphones, which aren't very loud. But overall good display, good features, adaquate storage space and user friendly....

...The XS202 immediately struck me as a good deal, 20gb for the price of an ipod mini?! When I got it I was not dissappointed, it looks amazing (that's real metal) and comes with all you need to get started! The player does not use any software, just drag and drop (or if you want media player's syncronising feature) which makes it very easy to update and very versatile. I would suggest getting a program like "Tag & Rename" to ensure that all your music files are named correctly aswell. The sound quality is awesome, i can;t fault it, it doesn't skip, which is something HDD mp3s can do and very rarely freezes up, something not even ipod can match.
