WD SE16 250GB
Review of WD Caviar Blue WD2500KS 250 GB by
offspringy
Advantages: Fast, Large Storage, Cheap, Clever, Reliable, Easy install
Disadvantages: n/a
...helps this drive compeet with faster drives (WD raptor 10krpm) but for around £50-60 knock 2 of them in Raid-0 and you will most likely have a very large, very fast drive setup for £40-50 less than a faster drive!
I would suggest if you're in the market for a large, reliable, quitet drive you realy do need to look at Western Digital's 250GB SE16 Drive as this drive ranks at the top of the hard drive food chain, and is industry standard coming from WD who are renowned for their quality and the life span of their products.
Western digital SE (special edition) is another way of stating that this drive has 16mb of cache instead of the usual 8mb (overall faster performance for sustained use, ie network storage)
The drive spins at 7.200RPM (rotations per minute) which is usualy classed as the norm for higher end hard drives, where...

Western Digital Caviar SE16 WD2500KS 250
Review of WD Caviar Blue WD2500KS 250 GB by
Jon_Farrimond
Advantages: Lots of space, cheap, reliable
Disadvantages: Can't hoenstly think of any
...If we look at the name of this device, 'Western Digital Caviar SE16 WD2500KS 250 GB', we can infer a great deal of information. 'Western Digital' is the manufacturer, 'Caviar' is the produce line, 'SE16' tells us that this is a special edition device with a 16Mb (1Mb = 1024Kb, 1Kb = 1024b) cache, 'WD2500KS' is the model number and 250Gb is the device size in raw data format.
Western Digital are a good company and in fact I buy all of my hard drives from them because they have never failed on me. The Caviar device line has been in operation for about six years and has included IDE devices as well as the newer SATA and SATAII devices.
The special edition bit of that means effectively nothing, it is simply a marketing thing, but the 16Mb cache is very important. Normally hard drives have an 8Mb cache and used to have a 2Mb cache...

My little black box!
Review of WD Passport Portable WDXMS2500 250 GB by
thewhitewolf
Advantages: great space saver, fast transferrence rate
Disadvantages: can easily be knocked over
...to be surprisingly fast. Access time was very quick, 12ms per second seek time, so within the hour i had backed up and transferred my files!. I have had no trouble streaming games and movies from my hard disk, with access to files within the disk is as instant as a normal hard disk drive.
It can be stored on it's side, or standing up right. They can also be stacked, if 250gb isn't enough for you! There is a circular light around the on/off button to indicate that the device is on, and also that disk access is being made. During powerdown of your computer, the hard disk will automatically turn off, so there is no need to turn it off yourself.
They can be easily knocked over, so if you're untidy like me, then clean up your work area or you'll continually keep turning the thing on.
I would thoroughly recommend this product due to its great...

Western Digital Scorpio 250 GB 2.5-inch Hard-Drive
Review of Western Digital Scorpio WD2500BEVE 250 GB by
Acidcub3
Advantages: 250GB Lots of memory, Low power consumption, Cheap
Disadvantages: 2.5-inch limits it to USUALLY Laptops but can be used in desktop computers
...Fairly decent hard-drive.
Western Digital are a well trusted company, especially for computer equipment. 250GB is a massive storage device, you could store ALOT and with low power consumption makes it even better. Looking at the prices too this is a real bargin! I really recommend this hard-drive, the real-time data protection will help if your computer ever shuts off. It is also a 2.5-inch hard-drive which usually associates with laptops, however there are some desktop computers which could use this. If you did want to buy this for a desktop computer but your computer could only use 3.5-inch then you could buy an external hard-drive shell which could plug straight into your computer OR laptop through USB or Firewire. Overall I think this is a very nice hard-drive and a good bargin at the price it's avaliable for....

250GB Beast!
Review of Western Digital Scorpio WD2500BEVE 250 GB by
buckyohare
Advantages: 250GB of internal memory!! At a reasonable price, too!
Disadvantages: No major disadvantages. Not as quiet as I believed it would be.
...I purchased this drive as an upgrade of my Acer Aspire laptop's 60GB 2.5" internal hard drive, and so far I have been delighted with it!
The reason I chose this drive in particular, was due to the fact that it is an ATA drive (not SATA). ATA is the older drive technology, and as my Acer laptop is a few years old, it unfortunately does not support the more recent (and higher capacity) SATA internal drives. SATA drives are far more widespread now and are a bit easier and cheaper to find than the older ATA drives, but if you have an older laptop model, you will probably have to buy an ATA drive such as this one.
After searching high and low, this 250GB drive from Western Digital was the highest capacity ATA internal drive I could find at a reasonable price, and so far it has not let me down!
It took a bit of effort to clone my...

Your Passport to your data, Whenever, Whereever
Review of WD Passport Portable WDXMS1200 120 GB by
Gong_Fishing
Advantages: *Compact *High speed *No need for additional power adapter
Disadvantages: None to say about
...This little beauty is small (about 5 inches in its longest dimension) yet perfectly formed. I've been using mine for months now and its not backed out on me yet. I find it most ideal because, although there is the option of buying a power adaptor to power the unit, it can be powered via the USB cable supplied with it.
Adding to its neat design, the HD is very quiet and It doesn't seem to get hot (or even luke-warm) while running.
The massive 120GB space is an absolute steal at its current price of between £77 and £97 GBP on the Ciao.co.uk market (roughly $139 USD)
Although you can buy many external Hard drives with double or even triple the capacity than the WD-Passport, I'd recommend this over all of them due to its slim design, low power requirements, ease of use AND the quality of the product itself. A robust investment...

Iomega HDD External Hard Drive 250 GB
Review of Iomega HDD External Hard Drive 250 GB by
Bunchan
Advantages: 250GB capacity, 2 firewire port, 1 usb ports
Disadvantages: alittle bit expensive
...Hello again and welcome to Chan's new toys!
Just had a box delieverd to my home 2 weeks ago which i hadn't ordered, someone at work had given me new hardware to help with a task I've got to do. How well people know me, give me new harware to play with and i'll do any work they want!
Anyway, opening up my jiffy bag I find a box with Media Centre writen in big black letters. MY first thought is what on earth is a media centre??? The box seemed a bit small for a TV and DVD player, let alone surround sound, so i decided that putting on my glasses so i could focus on the box was probably a good idea. It turns out a media centre is a rather large USB and firewire hard drive, with a few extras thrown in to make it look special.
What you get is a 250Gb drive, 2 firewire ports, 1 usb port to go to your machine and 2 usb ports to connect...

250GB Black Box for your PC
Review of Western Digital My Book Essential Edition WDG1U2500 250 GB by
internetpig
Advantages: Very Stylish, Great Value, and Quiet. A USB hard drive for backups or storage
Disadvantages: A Little on the large side and another mains cable.
...I bought one of these boxes to back up my laptop and paid £80 ish. It did exactly what the advertising said. Just plug in the power cable and connect using the USB cable to your computer and you have an additional drive with a 250gb capacity. Fantastic.
The high speed USB performed exceptionally when backing up my Laptop with a total backup (using ntbackup) completing in a fraction of the time taken when using a network drive.
I then moved on to use this drive to transfer some static data from a old file server which this drive makes redundant.
I am now looking at the DVD's that I use on a regular basis, and considering releasing even more deskspace.
In the box I got the drive, Power adaptor and mains cable (both 3 pin and 2 pin), USB cable (2m) and a few bits of paper. Setup, as described was a breeze. All Windows machines...

XIMETA NetDisk NDU10-250 250 GB
Review of XIMETA NetDisk NDU10-250 250 GB by
matt_fantastic
Advantages: Super simple data/File sharing across a home network
Disadvantages: Can't really think of any, that's why I bought another one !
..., Width 4.7 in / 119.5mm, Weight 3 lbs / 1.36 kg)
I now can confirm that it's also possible to add multiple NetDisk's to your network - up to a total disk space of 1.6 terabytes (!) - and I've not noticed any change in the access speed with 2 devices connected to the network. There's also software included for "asynchronous mirroring" (RAID1) for data protection that continuously creates and saves a copy of data in real time onto a second NetDisk whenever data is written to the first NetDisk ! Alternatively "aggregation" allows two NetDisk units to be recognized as one large drive. I have to admit that I've not yet tried this now I have 2 NetDisk's, but will let you know if I do. Watch this space...
Overall, this is another great item and a very valuable component of my home network, especialy with a massive 250GB of storage space...
