How to be popular with all your old relatives
Review of Acer ScanWit 2720S Film Scanner by  Saturn

Advantages: Value for money, excellent quality
Disadvantages: Will take up all of your time !

...For my birthday, Mrs Saturn decided to contribute to my slide scanner fund. After faffing around with entirely the wrong model, I bought one of these and never looked back. Background ********* I have taken slides for years and wanted a way of recording them for posterity. Also, many of my ancient relatives have huge libraries of slides gathering dust and slowly fading away. I decided that at some point I might like to borrow them to make an electronic family history. I forgot that slides are like gold dust in my family and no one will part with them, but that's another story. Having moaned about it for years, Mrs Saturn decided to contribute to the fund, so I bought a Microtek Filmscanner 35 from Jessops and it was useless. I took it back and swapped it for the Acer 2720s and haven't had a problem since. As an aside, Jessops... Read review

Not at all negative about this scanner
Review of Canon CanoScan 2700F by  pauljm

Advantages: Handles 35mm negatives, slides and APS
Disadvantages: SCSI interface may be a problem for some

...Going digital but still want to continue to enjoy your years of 35mm photos? Maybe the best way ahead is to invest in a dedicated film scanner. On the other hand few of us have limitless budgets so we won’t be rushing out to buy a top line brand new scanner - hence my purchase of a Canon CanoScan 2700F (you knew I’d get there eventually). The Basics ~~~~~~~~ The 2700F is a 35mm film scanner. It will handle negative strips, APS cartridges (if anyone uses APS!) and mounted transparencies (slides). There are two main advantages to scanning the negatives rather than prints; firstly, and most importantly, you are using the original image source so you have the chance to get as much information there is, secondly (and certainly in my case), the prints have long since disappeared! We all sometimes give away prints, put them in albums... Read review

Canon BJI 6500-This is one useful REVIEW!
Review of Canon BJ I6500 by  Saiyan

Advantages: Quality is outstanding!
Disadvantages: A3 paper may be taken in angled (1 in 10 chances - for me)

...After my vicious attack review on Dooyoo I think I’ll write another review. This time it’ll be based on a printer, Canon BJ I6500. Introduction ------------------------- Canon has been very successful in its attempts to diversify into many markets. The reason they have succeeded in many computing markets such as the printer, camera or calculator market is that their products are well known for their excellence in quality and meeting consumer demands. Canon would defiantly be my first choice for any products I need and they supply. Now when it comes to printers, I know from pass experience and many reviews that canon floats first position along with their top competitors such as HP in the printer’s market. The reason Canon is known to top the printer league is because when ever a canon printer is released... Read review

A slightly less explosive Canon.
Review of Canon EOS 1000D by  thebigc1690

Advantages: Typically good Canon images.
Disadvantages: Poor flash and feels a bit flimsy.

...Canon along with Nikon have for years been known as the kings of camera`s but with things changing rapidly in the DSLR market Canon had to think fast. All of Canons recent releases have been at the expensive end of the market and they have been rapidly losing ground to the likes of Nikon and the new kids on the block (Sony). The release of the Canon EOS 1000D in June this year (2008)was an attempt to get back in the entry level market and whilst I think it should have the desired effect I am still not convinced they have done enough to tempt people away from the less expensive Sony option. Many people myself included thought that the new Canon would just be a fresher version of the Canon EOS 400D and the only stand out feature available on this 1000D that the 400 did not offer was a live view, so were Canon trying to pull the wool... Canon i850 Printer
Review of Canon i 850 by  Dave_UK

Advantages: Fast, quiet, economical and fantastic quality.
Disadvantages: none (that I know of)

...I purchased this printer several months ago, and have been extremely pleased with its performance ever since. I looked at the various offerings from HP, Epson and Lexmark as well, and decided upon the Canon i850 as the perfect choice. I was looking for an all-round printer, that could cope with a small-business workload (I have plenty of college work to do, and my mum is an Avon Team Leader) without costing the earth in consumables. I also wanted to print photos, so printing quality was a serious consideration, and not just the cost to run the machine. Overview ************** As far as all-rounders go, this printer is amazing. It is designed primarily as a medium-high volume/small business printer. I feel that, compared to its rivals from the Epson and HP camps, it is the best all-rounder by far. After much researching, I... Read review

The Canon PIXMA IP1800 and the end of the world
Review of Canon PIXMA IP1800 by  FlameDruid

Advantages: Cheap and replaceable. Attractive and efficient technology.
Disadvantages: Ink costs more than the machine. Potential ecological mayhem.

...My new Canon PIXMA IP1800 replaces my Canon PIXMA IP1600 so the planet may be doomed and It could be my fault. My Canon PIXMA IP1600 had nothing wrong with it. It wasn't broken. The pictures spilled out on glossy paper at A4 ready for framing. The text was crisp and black. I'd had it for a year or so. It was cheap yet efficient and as good as any printer I'd ever owned. It had no tray to catch paper coming out but otherwise was printing perfectly and I've been delighted with it. This is partly why I bought the Canon PIXMA IP1800 which is also excellent. But why bother? They're almost the same machine! The ink is running out on my old printer and, bizarrely, new cartridges would cost more than a brand new one. My wife was furious. She looked at the packets of ink cartridges with a shop assistant because she didn't believe me... Read review

Cannon Hall, South Yorkshire
Review of Cannon Hall, Barnsley by  micksheff

Advantages: Free, lots of history
Disadvantages: None for me

...I am often amazed just how many major attractions there are within my local area that I have yet to visit and until very recently Cannon Hall, near Barnsley in South Yorkshire was one such example of a place. Cannon Hall is a grand country mansion that is located on the edge of the picturesque village of Cawthorne. Cawthorne lies approximately seven kilometres to the east of Barnsley's town centre and is roughly halfway between junctions 37 and 38 of the M1 motorway. A bus that departs from the central interchange every 30 minutes serves Cawthorne if you are visiting by public transport, but it is then a good 10-15 minute walk from where the bus terminates to Cannon Hall itself. It is however a very pleasant walk that will take you past some of the most affluent houses in this part of Yorkshire, the sort of dwellings that even... Read review

Canon EOS 350D - He He !!!
Review of Canon EOS 350D by  a4angus

Advantages: Compact, fast, quality images
Disadvantages: Poor screen view in sunlight

...******************* Canon EOS 350D ******************* The time had come to bite the bullet and go completely digital. No, not me - just my camera. Out went film and folders. Out went my trusty old Canon EOS 50E, which had served me well for many years, and in came the latest toy. Already having a Canon S9000 photo printer (prints A3 size photo poster prints) and another compact digital camera, I was geared up for the change. That, and it *was* a new toy  There were 2 incidents that made me want to switch: (1) I returned from Hawaii a couple of years ago armed with 25 or so films ready for processing. After a £200+ Jessops bill to process, print and digitise these, just to see which ones I liked, it seemed like an expensive way to go forward. (2) At my wedding last year, we engaged an excellent professional photographer... Read review

Canon do it again
Review of Canon MP370 by  TheCoopster

Advantages: Excellent Print Quality, Cheap ink Cartridges, Canon Customer Service
Disadvantages: Size

...Having used a Hewlett Packard printer for the last 6 years (with no problems I should add) I finally got fed up with paying stupid prices for replacement ink carts and decided to look around for a new printer. At first I just wanted a printer, but then the idea of an all in one got in my head and I just couldn't get rid of it. I have to admit to being an avid Canon fan (my SLR camera and digital camcorder are both Canon) and when it comes to imaging they're usually on the button. I'm pleased to report that this printer is no different. It's a printer, scanner and photo copier all in one. The print quality is one of the best I have sen and the price was only just over the ton. If you own a digital camera with PictBridge then this is compatible also, although it's not the end of the world if yiur camera isn't Pictbridge compatible... Read review

The Canon PowerShot A75 is a great looking camera.
Review of Canon PowerShot A75 by  Susie-34668

Advantages: Even I can use it. Really simple and easy instructions.
Disadvantages: Haven't found any.

...A couple of months ago, Len told me that his Canon PowerShot A50 digital camera was getting old. He really needed a more up to date one, with all the extra features. We headed to Best Buy, Ritz Camera, and Circuit City. All three had deals on the Canon PowerShot A75. Best Buys was $199 (104 pounds), and we would receive money back with their 'zone rewards program'. Ritz Camera would give us the same amount of money off, as a discount, and also 15 free prints. However, Circuit City offered a free battery charger and batteries, to the value of $35(18 pounds). This one we took. We wanted another Canon, as Len had a 128 mb. CompactFlash card, and this camera used the same card. The camera came with a 32 mb. As soon as we came home Len was trying out the camera. I waited until the end of November. An English lady, I visit in a nursing... Read review
