PS3 slim

Advantages: Blu-ray, free online, nice extras like vidzone & iplayer. Almost silent operation
Disadvantages: Rubbish controller, still expensive, online nowhere near as good as xbox live

...Well, had the slim for a few weeks now (my 1st ever playstation), personally, I'm a little underwhelmed by it, I've been a gamer since the nintendo game & watch days & owned @ least 1 of the current gen consoles since the Mega Drive(Genesis). Graphically the system has the potential to wipe the floor with the 360, but this is really only going to apply to PS3 exclusives as any software house making a multi-platform game is going to be as cost effective (lazy) as possible & use the same graphics on all the games where possible(ok, they need to dumb them down for the Wii). My problem here is that I have yet to get a game for it that runs in 1080P, they all seem to be in 720P! Why???? I'm sure they are out there, but I haven't found one yet. I guess this is down to most HD tv's being HD ready rather than Full HD. Sound-Yeah, ok...

The PlayStation 3 is glorious!

Advantages: Cheap Blu-Ray player, stunning visuals, free online gameplay, fun tilt controls, excellent multimedia playback.
Disadvantages: Expensive, lack of PS2 game playback.

PS3 Full of stuff

Advantages: great selection of accessories, games, films, music
Disadvantages: bit pricey

...The 60gb version is a bit on the expensive side, I'm not sure if there's a separate hard drive available but if there is I'm sure it won't cost over £150, which is how much more this version costs over the 30gb version. The graphics are the best of any console out, the games can also be much much bigger than Xbox 360 as it uses high def blue ray disks where the 360 uses standard dvds for its games. There's a massive array of accessories and 3rd party companies are making even more as it's usb connected. There's no need for memory cards because of the huge hard drive, online gaming is quick and easy as it's very easy to connect to your normal broadband connector. The console itself is a little bigger than i would have liked but no inch is wasted, it's packed full of features. I've had mine 4 months and I'm still finding new...

Advantages: blu-ray player, HD player & console in one!
Disadvantages: cost

Then you have your Blu-ray player, the only thing about this is: we have a HD 1080i tv, which means it's not 'full' HD- full HD is 1080p. The 'i' stands for interlaced, which is two halves of an image being placed or 'interlaced' together on the screen- this can cause flickering, which we find very noticable. The 'p' stands for progressive, which is the entire image at once on screen- apparently this doesn't show flicker, and gives the top quality of HD. The casino Royale blu-ray disc we have does two formats, 1080p or apparently in 'standard' but we are yet to watch it! I find it hard to beleive all the people like me, who bought an HD ready tv, will find we can't really use it for things like blu-ray and maybe ps3 games...

Advantages: Excellent gaming and user interface, incorporated Blu-Ray and DVD Player, 60Gb Hard Drive.
Disadvantages: Few 'top title' release games, size of console, appears very expensive.

PS3 Sixaxis Controller

Advantages: Battery Life / Charge Times ; Nice Size
Disadvantages: Squeaking / Sticking

...I don't think there's that much that can be said about this specific product...it's a controller. However, I'll give an account of my experiences of this controller over the past two years. I got two of these sixaxis controllers free with my PS3 so was able to rotate between using one and charging the other, hopefully allowing me to prolong the usability of the contollers. Unfortunately, after about a year and a half ( and many hours of use, 200+ ) the left analogue stick on both controllers began to squeak and stick. I'm pretty sure the analogue bashing involved in Beijing Olympics contributed highly to this. The main disadvantages of this for me is when I'm playing Call of Duty and I'm hiding behind an object and without realising have begun slowly moving out into the open.
