...I have been umming and arring over which colsole to buy, the Xbox 360 or Playstation 3. I had heard a lot of positive things about the Xbox, and I had also heard that graphics wise and gaming wise the Xbox was slightly better than the Playstation 3. However, I eventually decided to go for the Playstation 3 for several reasons. Firstly, and probably mainly, was because of the recent decision to cancel production of the HD-DVD format (a format which the Xbox 360 is developed to play), meaning that the Blu-Ray dvd format ( a format that the Playstation 3 is developed to play) will dominate the High Definition DVD market in the near future. PS3, for you and me?

Advantages: Stylish, good games available + lots more on the way, blu ray
Disadvantages: No HD cable in the box, no rumble, limited BC

...40GB or 60GB (if you purchased an older console) the bottom right advertises the built in Blu-ray disc player. To help you carry it home it has a handy carry handle which unfortunately isn't very comfortable, it doesn't help that the box weighs 6.5KG and once I had brought the thing home my hand was aching! Once you have the box open you will notice the two carboard tabs instructing you on how to get your system out. There are two main segments, one smaller segment contains the Sixaxis wireless controller, AV cable, USB cable, and Scart adaptor. PS3 slim

Advantages: Blu-ray, free online, nice extras like vidzone & iplayer. Almost silent operation
Disadvantages: Rubbish controller, still expensive, online nowhere near as good as xbox live

...,it'll give you 7.1 loss-less audio through an HDMI, so I wont get the full effect til I up-grade my amp, still running on 5.1 through an optical cable, which is fine, it was a while before I figured out how to get 5.1, set the system to use optical, but my amp was only registering the sound as pro-logic II, eventually found that I needed to change another setting from 'linear PCM' to 'bitstream', which the system advised me not to do! ...I got one last year for Christmas and found it to be better than my XBox 360 in almost every area, in my opinion this truly is the best games console on the market and would recommend it to anyone who is into their gaming. My second A3

Advantages: Fast, robust, handling, economy
Disadvantages: Centre arm rest makes use of handbrake a pain

...Recently I bought a new a3, i chose it to replace the a3 I had at the time which had proved economical, reliable and reasonably nippy, it was a 1.6. The real determining factor for me though was the fact that the 1.6 was written off when a 52 seater bus didn't bother breaking and smahed the rear end in. Standing back and looking at the damage I was impressed that the tailgate had still about a foot or so to go before reaching the back seats. Granted the bus probably wasn't doing more than 30 mile an hour, but I was stationary. So replaced the 1.6 with a 1.9tdi , 6gear. Having 130 bhp certainly makes a difference and this thing is quick when you want it but very economical if you're just cruising. I get around 600 miles on a tank. The seating position is pretty adjustable, my car has the usual forward/back/tilt and backrest...

To PS3 or not to PS3?

Advantages: An amazing machine, expandable, some great features
Disadvantages: Expensive (but for a reason), almost internet reliant, no browser security

...you're limited to a maximum filesize of 4Gb. For 99% of us this isn't a problem unless you've converted a HD/Bluray video to an AVI file in which case you'll need to knock it down to a lower resolution. The second problem is some operating systems, especially Vista, won't allow you to format in FAT32 any more. The solution to this is go to download.com or do a Google and download an application called CompuApps SwissKnife V3. This is a HD utility designed for Windows XP, but it works with Vista and does all sorts of weird and wonderful things. Use it to delete the partition on the external hard drive and ten format the external drive to FAT32 (just make sure you've backed it up before hand). Anyway, pretty much anything that doesn't require complicated drivers will work with the PS3 so it's 'expandable' and if in doubt give it a try...

Playstation 3 Great Product

Advantages: Useful, Multimedia Functions, Entertaining, Internet
Disadvantages: Does have the odd problems mostly HDMI issues.

Advantages: Graphics, Sound, Free online play, Wireless controllers, Sixaxis
Disadvantages: Size, Price, Not able to play PS2 games

...When I went to buy my PS3 at the end of 2008, I was torn between buying the PS3 and the Xbox 360. I must admit one of the biggest factors between the 2 was the price, the Xbox's price tag was a lot lower, but I wanted online play and online cost a LOT in the long run with the Xbox. However the PS3 was a lot more expensive initially, the online was free, but that wasn't the only reason I chose the PS3... The Graphics on the PS3 are truly amazing, and I tried it without HD initially, but after hooking it up to my HDTV, I was blown away. One of the first games I played was Fifa 09, and I was quite honestly convinced that the start up picture of Ronaldinho, was actually a picture and refused to believe that it was actually computer generated after one of my friends told me! Another game I got for Christmas of that year was Need for Speed...

Advantages: Cheap Blu-Ray player, great graphics, free wifi, internet browser
Disadvantages: Expensive, some games are better on 360, 40 GB model doesn't have backwards compatability

...There are probably 3 categories of consumer: (1) Gamers with a HD TV who are also quite interested in the multimedia/blue ray angle. (2) Serious gamers either without a HD TV or who are not interested in high def for films etc.. (3) HD TV/ multimedia people who are not that interested in games. If you are in (1) or (3) categories then this is a bargain at the moment. One of the cheapest/best blue ray players with constant support. Now upscales dvds and supports divx etc.. Supports the very latest version of blu ray and is future proof. Sony can not afford to have this fail and the constant updates are great and frequent. Also of advantage (over other systems) are: Low failure rate, built in wifi (even on 40 gb model), no external plug, no external hd-dvd (blu ray built in), no annual online fees.
