The very first scene of the film is the last day of sunlight. People are leaving the town for a month to escape the darkness. Others, however, choose to stay; the perfect plot for a horror film. A peculiar person shows up in town after a serious of strange events. After attempting to harm a police officer named Eben (played by Josh Harnett) he is arrested. While in his jail cell, he warns Eben and his estranged wife Stella of horrible things that are about to happen. Advantages: Vampires are scary, originalish ending, Mark Boone Jr... ermm.....

...I thought this movie looked like a kind of vampire based cross between The Thing, 28 days Later and Ghosts of Mars but this didn't quite turn out to be the case. *Caution - contains some spoilers* The story starts as 30 days of arctic 'night' are just about to begin in the isolated Alaskan town of Barrow. As people leave to avoid the oncoming darkness the town's population shrinks from over 500 to 152 the local sheriff Eben Oleson (Josh Hartnett) is called to investigate a series of unusual crimes. Sled dogs being killed, mobile phones destroyed and the local helicopter being sabotaged (at which point the frustrated pilot throws something into the town's crushing machine and you just know someone is going to have to fall into later… and predictably does!). ...This film (currently on at cinemas around the UK) is based on 3 comics which all have the same name. They are all based on the same theme. In parts of Alaska they have constant darkness for 30 days straight. The idea that during these 30 days, small towns, containing only a few hundred people are wiped out by vampire like creatures which find the sunlight lethal. The idea is that no one will ever be able to find out about these creatures as they cut off the town from the outside and burn it down when the killing spree is over, so it looks like a tragic accident…. Far fetched I know. The film is directed by David Slade, who in my opinion has not accomplished anything spectacular and therefore I think for him to take on such a bold and exciting storyline is really putting him in a true line of fire. ...Here is one film that I really wanted to see. Billed as terrifying and bloody, it seemed to be my kind of film. Lots of blood and gore and generally a really scary film. I was so looking forward to watching it! Not that I am a fan of Josh Hartnett or Melissa George - I'm not. It's just that all the hype surrounding this film really gave the message that it was the best horror of 2007. I was sadly mistaken in believing it. ***Synopsis*** In Alaska, the nights are long. ...Just after I had Murray I started expressing some milk to allow daddy to help with the feeds and let me get some sleep as having 2 children under 3 was very tiring with very little sleep, with having to breast feed all night long. The first few nights when Murray wakened he would scream while hubby was down stairs getting the expressed bottle out of the fridge and heating it up. By that time I had just latched Murray on and breast fed him. After a while I gradually started introducing to formula to try and get him to go longer between feeds and give me a break as I was at breaking point. Hubby was happy for this but he was fed up going downstairs, switching the kettle on and waiting for the bottle to get the chill off it. For a price of around £6 I bought this 30 day mascara a few months ago and t be honest I am fairly pleased with the results. I would say that it can actually last longer than the specified 30 days but would need a top up around that time if not a week or so later. I bought the black colour but it is also available in a shade of brown for those with lighter features but I find the black gives the best results.
