Is it real? 32mb for under half the price of 8mb?
Advantages: Huge storage capacity, very cheap
Disadvantages: Some games won't restore their saved game
...Now, you may see these for sales on various websites and be wondering whether they are really Sony made. Well, as far as I can tell, they are. They certainly have all of the trappings of a genuine item, Sony logo, MagicGate, proper serial numbers and model numbers.
My PS2 spotted it no problem when I went into the Browser and reported it as a 32mb card, so I thought 'Happy Days!'. Played on my game, saved it, everything great. It even appeared to save as quickly as any other card I have used too (Sony PS2, Max, Sony PS1)
The price is fantastic too. I got mine for under half the price of an 8mb card and it came in from Hong Kong! So, instead of having to remember which card you have that saved game on, simply whack this huge beastie in and you have 4x the storage capacity.
Now, the slightly bad news:
1. Certain games will not...

Review of Sony PS2 32mb Memory Card

YEPP, it works.
Advantages: Portable, light, phone book, voice recording, Smartmedia slot
Disadvantages: Small flash memory.
...have been designed with ease of use, and very self explanatory.
The screen has 3 line display which scrolls nicely to fit long song titles. You do need to add ID3 tags for it though, otherwise it won't display the song properly.
One nice feature of this MP3 player is its ability to have expandable media, which allows for more mp3s to be stored. This comes in the form of a Smartmedia card, about the size of a £2 coin, but rectangular and about 1mm thick. As far as I know it can only read cards store upto 32MB max. I emailed Samsung Technical support and they said 32MB versions are the largest possible card that the E32/64 can read. I want to try a 64MB card to confirm this, however if anyone out there can help me and tell me whether it works or not with a 64MB card. One nice thing is that these cards are very cheap at dabs.com. Look...

Past its sell-by date
Advantages: Memory expandable using SmartMedia
Disadvantages: Unreliable and fiddly PC connection software; lack of features
...The Yepp YP-E32G was released over a year ago as one of the earliest MP3 players available and has certainly aged a lot. It simply doesn't match up to the newer releases in terms of features.
It comes with 32MB flash memory as standard, but a SmartMedia card slot allows memory expansion at a price. 64MB can store around 1 hour’s worth of CD quality stereo, but if you decide to go for quantity not quality, halving the bandwidth can double the amount of music. However, the drop in sound quality is very noticeable, especially at loud volumes. Battery consumption is tolerable. The voice recording function is nifty but not that practical as the quality is poor.
The PC connection software is infuriatingly unreliable and it can often take several tries to connect properly. File transfer speed is slow. Worst of all is the playlist...

Easy Peasy to use
Advantages: Small great design
Disadvantages: Lack in features.
...I bought this tiny MP3 player in April '01 and it is a real bopper. It is simple to use and complete with an easy to understand manual. The software is just as simple.
Specification are
64MB built in memory but mine is actually just over 67MB.
Powered using 2*AAA batteries lasting 10hrs (Alkaline) Included.
Large clear screen with 3 lines of text each with 10 characters.
The dynamic small design is a mear 65*87*17.2mm weighing 75 grams.
A snazzy Aluminium front with plastic back.
Transfer speed is fairly good at 1.3Mbps. Takes about 15mins for 64MB.
Voice records up to 125 tracks or 256 minutes which is easily uploaded to your PC. One touch record.
A built in phone book consisting of name, telephone and office, with a capacity of 350 entries.
The memory is upgradable with Yepp cards 16MB at £20, 32MB at £40 and 64MB at £70...

A pounds worth of snaps
Advantages: Cheap
Disadvantages: Small capacity
...Looking around for something to review, I didn't have to go far. There's a Kodak 32Mb Compact Flash card lying on my desk.
It's not that interesting really.
Back in the days of the 1Megapixel camera, 32mb would have been quite sizable, but not now I'm afraid.
If by chance you are still using a 1 megapixel camera, then a 32mb card will store approx 50 - 120 images depending on how much you compress them. On a six megapixel camera, you'll be lucky to get 10. I guess in that respect, if you have one lying in the bottom of your camera bag, and your ridiculously oversized 4Gb card ever becomes full (unlikely), then you could always get that last few snaps on this.
Compact Flash is one of the most common types of memory card, and will be compatible with all Digital SLR's, and many compact digitals. Check your specs. The good thing...

A great MP3 player
Advantages: Small, lightweight, Good quality of sound
Disadvantages: None really
...I purchased a Samsung Yepp E32 a couple of months ago and I have not stopped using it since. It comes complete with 32Mb of inbuilt memory, headphones, computer connection cable, Yepp software and an expansion slot for smart media memory cards which can expand the memory upto 96Mb. You can store about 9-10 mp3 tracks on the internal memory when you use a recording quality of around 128Kbps. The sound is trully amazing. I not heard anything quite as clear. The Yepp has its own inbuilt 3D equalizer and graphic display unit. The software provide is easy to install and easy to use to transfer and mange the MP3 files on the Yepp/memmory cards. The yepp also has dictaphone and phone book functions. Which mean that you use it to record lectures for example, then download them to a computer and E-mail the lectures to your friends. The only...

My little baby - Samsung Yepp E64
Advantages: Small, good sound quailty, recorder, telephone book, free software, guarantee
Disadvantages: Napster losing in court, headphones. Memory cards are expensive I think.
...it is still there! That is one diadvantage - the headphones are not too good but you can always get some decent one for £10 or thereabouts. The software provided gives; the program to put MP3s onto the Yepp and Realplayer which is alright (I hardly use - Musicmatch is a much better program - (I might have to write a review for that as well!)). To download MP3 onto the Yepp require a parellel cable of a USB cable which should be provided. The parallel is of course slower but you can fill the 64 MB in around fifteen minute (do not hold me to that, I haven't timed it). There is also a memory card slot to expand the number of songs that can be held (ranging in sizes - 32 MB, 64 MB, there may be one at 128 MB as well). At the time of writing this review (April 2001) it retails at around £150 - fortunately I got mine for the same price...

Samsung Yepp E64 Portable MP3
Advantages: Ergonomic Design, very nice
Disadvantages: buttons tended to border on the ludicrously small side
...This is not the first incarnation of the Yepp player; indeed the debut product was the 32MB version, which for all intents and purposes seems to be the identical product with less RAM. The newer Yepp player still uses the same Parallel port interface as its elder brother, but it is by no means a dated product and shines with its features and tech appeal. From the very beginning, the impression that this player gives is one of quality, and technical elegance. This is no small statement either, because the Yepp player is very well designed and is even more visually exciting than either the Rio500 or the Nomad II, with a design that elicits a bigger wow response and with materials that are reminiscent of high-tech Japanese and Korean electronics. Let?s face it... when it comes to a tech toy like a portable MP3 player, functionality...

What a Diamond
Advantages: Easy to carry, cheapish now
Disadvantages: Lack of memory compared with current ones
...the printer and MP3 connection to use the same parallel port, which is very useful indeed.
The main disadvantage of this product is that it comes with just 32MB of memory, which is a great deal less than any of the more modern ones. This allows around about 45 minutes of music at 120kbits quality. This problem can be overcome slightly however, as there is provision for an extra flash memory card to be inserted, which I believe can be purchased for up to an extra 128MB, costing anywhere from £10 for the smallest ones, up to £50+ for the 128MB cards. This would add an extra few hours to the playback and make this a really decent alternative to some of the ridiculously priced modern ones.
Overall I would say that this is a good product by Diamond. To still be useful over 5 years on is quite an achievement in this sector of technology and they...

MP3 TO DIE FOR- Yepp or Nope
Advantages: Great sound quality, looks, features, price
Disadvantages: Cheesy name, is mp3 really the future?
...the ability to create audio environments whilst listening to mp3s, such as 'Rock 3D' which lets you have a heavier, fuller sound (by changing the treble and bass automatically).
Battery life
I'm sure this thing makes power... Batterires last for weeks, not like your CD or tape players...
Software
The software is fairly good, and uploading your music to your Yepp is fairly fast and painless. My only grumble would be that it plugs into your printer port and no adapter is supplied. I've now broken two printer cables, because you have to constantly unplug your printer. Virtually no PCs come with two printer ports. Oh well, at least I'm keeping a printer cable manufacturer in business.
Price
These are now quite old and are now really good value! I got My Yepp with 32MB on board memory for £75 from bedirect.co.uk (they don't do...
