3com hubs offer reliability and compatibility
Review of 3Com SuperStack II Dual Speed Hub 500 24 port - hub - 24 ports by
MikeWhalley
Advantages: Reliable, dual speed compatible, built in management
Disadvantages: Connectors have begun to rust - might cause problems in the future
...Preface
=
When you work so much technology around you, like I do, you begin to learn which technology is more reliable than others - especially when you have to deal with warranties/replacements! Some hardware is appalling, and without mentioning any brand names in this opinion I would say that the monitors that we use are the most unreliable monitors I have every seem. Seriously, we replace one at least every couple of weeks.
But then you get some pieces of hardware, like the 3com Superstack II hub, that you don't even remember exists. It just sits in the corner of my office, doing its job, and just doesn't stop. That is why I'm writing this opinion. This hub deserves recognition for its reliability - as it's a fine piece of kit.
The 3com SuperStack II Dual-speed hub 500...

Rub a dub HUB
Review of 3Com SuperStack II 100 TX - hub - 12 ports by
andycharger
Advantages: Enough connectivity for a small office
Disadvantages: Pricy
...3com are a market force in all things Network. As I have discussed im my reviews yesterday, they provide everything you could possibly need to set up and maintain a nework of any size.
While your PC's need a network card to allow them to connect to the outside world, they also need a meeting places for all of their cables and a method of communication.
That is where the hub takes over.
I like to think of the hub as the local telephone exchange. It sits there and reroutes all of your calls to their correct destination. Only with the hub, its computer commands instead of telephone calls.
Obviously, some people need a small hub and some need a slightly bigger hub, depending on their requirements. Luckily, 3com provide a solution and hub size for everyone.
When buying and choosing your hub, always allow for expansion. If you only have 4...

Slowly Dying the Death
Review of napster.com by
hakkved
Advantages: Unlimited songs
Disadvantages: They're trying to take it away from us
...downloaded about 20 exclusive Pearl Jam songs that are not found on any albums released by their Label. There are early demo songs from their inception; live covers of ‘Sittin By the Dock of the Bay’ (Otis Redding), ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit’ (Nirvana); classic PJ songs like ‘Wash’ and ‘Hard To Imagine’ and so much more.
Other websites don’t compare (well not ones that I know about anyway). www.mp3.com had a few songs of the Internet only Smashing Pumpkins release, ‘Machina II – the Friends and Enemies of Modern Music’ which then disappeared before I got to download them all. It is the exclusivity of Napster that can’t be beaten.
With many of the Napster files being removed now, we are losing our link to music. Surely the powers that be could find it within...

MP3.com - Worldwide Underground Music
Review of mp3.com by
Lidless_Eye
Advantages: Exposure, ease of use, networking, FREE, someone else does all the technical web stuff
Disadvantages: Varying quality of other artists / musicians work
...MP3.com has stuck to its roots in remaining the best tool for internet capable musicians. The company offers FREE worldwide internet exposure on a large scale, and also a great opportunity to network with musicians in your own town/city on a more local scale.
MP3.com is basically a massive multidimensional rack of pigeon holes. If you have a song / track / image it can be placed in its appropriate genre (Techno / Rock / Classical / Photo-Art / Speech) and easily accessed through your own web page set up by MP3.com themselves. To create this page you just upload your songs / images and tell MP3.com how you want the page to look. The artist retains control of their own webpage, and retains copyright of all their work.
MP3.com offers musicians the opportunity to distribute CDs throughout the world, it isn't just confined to the MP3...

I liked the spec so much, I bought two
Review of Frontier Labs NEX II by
Dragonone
Advantages: Good Headphones, excellent quality, Light weight, highly expandable / upgradable
Disadvantages: No RAM as standard, Can be hard to find
...on Ebay, so this is where I logged onto and I came up with the NEX II player. The Seller had several auctions for this player, I checked it out on MP3.COm and was impressed with the rating, top five star rating. As I wanted two, I emailed the seller and arranged a reasonable deal - 2 NEX II Players + 2 NEXKin Packs + Delivery came to £201.49
For those who are interested, I ordered from Josh of advancedmp3player.co.uk
~~~ Delivery & Service ~~~
I paid for the player using the NOCHEX system; I will do an opinion on this in the future. The money was sent on 30th Nov, the goods arrived 4th Dec. Unfortunately one of the players was missing a part, a clear plastic 'lens' that hold a NEXkin in place. I emailed the supplier who apologised and dispatched a 'spare' at no cost within a week. The 'lens' arrived one the day we flew out, unfortunately...
Great Web Camera
Review of 3Com HomeConnect Web camera by
jonwhite
Advantages: Price, quality of picture, software bundle, ease of use
Disadvantages: slight delay when using conferencing
...This camera from 3Com couldn't be simpler to use. It plugs directly into your USB Port and comes with great software.
Software included is webcam32, Picture Works Live, 3com Homeconnect Vid Cam, viewer, and great help files.
The camera allows you to take still digital images and record live video. Picture quality is excellent and when using the webcam for video e-mail or conferencing the delay in picture is minimal.
The camera can be focussed really close up so is excellent for those macro shots. It has self adjusting 'white light' features and sets itself up for the prevailing light conditions.
An excellent and affordable web camera...
Still a great game
Review of Civilization 2 (PC) by
Sputnik2000
Advantages: Addictive, long, open, even educational
Disadvantages: No multiplayer, dated graphics and sounds
...It may be old, but Civilization II is still a great game. Addictive, interesting, large, challenging – just a few words to describe one of the best games ever. Incase you don’t know, CivII is a turn-based strategy game in which you have to build up an empire from a single city, taxing, researching, building and conquering on your way. Starting in ancient times, CivII goes through centuries of developments and inventions, up to the present and beyond. There is, I think, an infinite number of turns you can take – although the scoring system stops in the early 21st century after you’ve sent a spaceship to Alpha Centurai. Civilisation II is very versatile, letting you do pretty much what you want – build up an all-conquering military empire, a naval superpower, or just a peaceful co-operating society. It is also very challenging...
Good Graphics
Review of ELSA ERAZOR II by
h4rp1c
Advantages: Can handle most 3D games
Disadvantages: Out of Date
...The Erazor II is based on NVIDIA's RIVA TNT chip, which has now been replaced by its successor, the TNT2. This means that it's capable of displaying 128-bit graphics, or as the box puts it, it has "High-end 128-bit 2D/3D graphics acceleration with the RIVA TNT from NVIDIA." - fairly straight forward. Now, I won't pretend that I know a lot about 3D hardware, because I don't, but I do know a little and I will try to explain the Erazor II board as simply as I can. So, here is a table with all the main tech specs for the Erazor II:
Platform - PC
Type of card - AGP 2x
Amount of onboard ram - 16mb SGRAM
Controller chip - Riva TNT 2
Plug & Play - Yes
RAMDAC speed - 250 Mhz
Video acceleration - MPEG
Graphics acceleration - 2D & 3D
Supported 3D standards - Direct 3D & Open GL
If you don't have a clue what most of the stuff above is about...
Great internet sharing Wireless Router
Review of 3Com 3CRWE554G72T Wireless Router by
abu_danny
Advantages: Firewall for the whole Network, Wireless, Your Own Site filtering options
Disadvantages: 20Mbs internet speed restriction.
...The joy of Internet, yet, Internet providers thinks that one computer per house is enough... Hence, they give you modems that allow only one computer to connect to the internet, the one with the modem attached to it.
Sure, I tried Microsoft internet sharing, but that means I must keep my computer ON for the whole family to connect their computers to the web across mine... Forget that, the cost of repairing anything on my computer beats many times the cost of this router.
With 54Mbs Wireless speed, and a WDS feature allowing me to extend the Wireless range with the help of another 3Com Access Point, 4 LAN ports saving me money on buying a Hub or a Switch to allow my family PC to connect to mine, I actually got myself a good deal.
I later configured the wireless and added my laptop to the lot too.
Within 10 minutes I was connected...
