Belkin Powered Hi-Speed USB 2.0 7-port Hub

Disadvantages: Only for Desktop PC's really, Must have adequate PSU

...It should first be stated that this product is intended for use with a desktop computer and indeed it would only be practical to use it in such a manner. The hub comes with an AC adapter which has a good length cable to reach the mains socket. A USB cable is also included to connect the hub to your computer. The hubs cannot function without the AC power. There is nothing more frustrating than ports or sockets being too close together, meaning that large or bulky adapters or plugs can't fit in next to each other. This problem is avoided by the Belkin 7-port hub as the ports are well spaced out with four on one side and three on the other. Port Ahoy! Cracking Belkin USB Hub

Advantages: great design, vertical ports for regular items such as memory sticks, led display
Disadvantages: maybe a bit expensive but comparrison but it is quality

...I bought this hub as an impulse purchase but based my decision on: (a) you can never have enough usb ports (b) belkin are a respected manufacturer (c) I liked the design It cost me £12 when I bought it but I think that was the stores mistake as I have seen it advertised at between £19 and £24. ...I bought the Targus Ultra Mini 4-Port USB Hub as I have more USB items than USB sockets on my laptop docking station. Its compact dimensions (width 9.5 cm, depth 4 cm, height 1.5 cm, weight 40 g)and included USB connection cable allow it to fit anywhere on the desk, and its four USB 2.0 ports (480Mbps data transfer) allow rapid connection to all sorts of peripherals. It's also backward compatible with older USB 1.1 devices, and Apple devices I believe, too. I love my USB Hub - arn't I sad!

Advantages: It works - extra power boost and plug and play!
Disadvantages: Not suitable for seriously high drain usb connectivity

...OK, so I admit it, i'm a geek, happy now? Right, so my laptop recently decided that one of it's USB ports wouldn't work, so it gave up, completely and since most of my gadgets are USB connections I had big trouble. With only 2 USB2 ports I had to keep taking things out and putting them back in again, my external keyboard had a fit every time I plugged it back in again and all sorts of curse words came out of my mouth. Then along came this little beauty. The problem with many USB hubs is they have no power and so multiple plug ins are being powered from the single laptop USB port and this slows things down. Well the power through this little device sorts that out immediately. It has 7 ports, and as long as you are clever and keep devices not in use turned off it minimises any problems, I currently have four working off mine...

Easyconnect 4 Port USB

Advantages: Works straight out of the box, Easily Portable
Disadvantages: Short connection cable, Only gives you 3 more ports

...I bought this Hub for my Dell Laptop around a month ago now. It is a good product, and was particuarly easy to install. It works straight out of the box and the computer installs the drivers for you, so there is no need to install any extra software. I dont receive any noticable performance drop of something that is connected through the HUB, although my Wireless mouse which uses a USB connection is for some reason not recognized when used through the Hub. This could be a problem with the mouse, although I have had no problems with it so far (It is a Logitech v500 Cordless mouse). I would recommend the product for someone who is running out of USB ports on a Laptop computer, although I think there are better products out there if portability is not a factor (ie a Desktop computer).
