Peugot 406lx - addendum to prev. op
Review of Peugeot 406 1.9 by
melldrew2
Advantages: comfy, attractive, good ride
Disadvantages: no major
...I drive a lease vehicle, which I keep for 3 years. Having been given the choice of around ten "rep" type motors I opted for the Peugot 406lx petrol this time around.
I drove a Mondeo for the last term. I have nothing bad to say about the Mondeo, but after renting a 406 on an overseas trip I was hooked.
French cars in general ten to have a "softer" ride and comfort level.
Having a bad back this was one of my considerations.
After almost 12 months of driving the 406 and some 35000 miles later, heres my view.
A comfortable ride over long distances, i.e 850 miles from Zeebrugge to Trieste in around 11 hours, sometime wellying along the Autobahn, others just plodding. I felt quite comfortable throughout.
If I am not in too much of a hurry I can acheive 40 mpg plus at 80 mph-ish, by monitoring the mpg reading on the digital display...

My birthday pressie a Peugeot 406
Review of Peugeot 406 1.8 by
luseantom
Advantages: loads of additional extras
Disadvantages: I don't really like it
...Two weeks ago my husband and me were looking for a new car. My old Vauxhall Vectra had died on me, when the gearbox dropped out of the bottom on the way to my friend's house....Soooooooo embarrassing, especially when it was lunchtime outside a high school. Anyway enough about that embarrassing moment. So we were looking for a car, I had always liked the Audi A4 but they are very expensive. My husband told me about the Peugeot 406, I had a look at one and thought there quite a nice shape. So we started searching on-line and in the auto trader for one. I went on Ebay and had a good scour until I finally saw a cheap one.
We travelled to Nottingham that night to have a look at it. It was 02 reg in blue. On first impressions I thought it was a really nice car. My husband who is really good with cars and used to be a mechanic had a really...

Practical Peugeot.
Review of Peugeot 406 2.0 HDi by
milleniumzeus
Advantages: Reliable, economic, practical.
Disadvantages: None
...A nice plain English op on a car.
I purchased my Peugeot 406Hdi rapier Saloon in December 2001. Only the second brand new car I had ever purchased. The first being a Peugeot 305 a few years ago.
That car had given me many trouble free miles so I thought I would stick with them. I suppose it’s a bit like the devil you know.
As a cab driver in London it had to be a diesel car. Economy is the Number one rule as saving money these days is so important.
There was a company in Scotland offering the best deal so I phoned, and arranged delivery.
A week later my shiny metallic China blue Peugeot 406 car arrived.
I like a largish car that’s comfortable. I like reliability and economy fuel consumption. Speed is not that important, I suppose functional is the best description.
The Peugeot 406 fitted my needs on description...

Capabilities of 406
Review of Peugeot 406 1.9 by
thesmythe
Advantages:
Disadvantages:
...The Peugeot 406 is an excellent car - a great improvement on the 405 which was nevertheless a good car itself. I currently drive a 406 diesel and the extras, which come as standard are the icing on the cake.
The 406 diesels come with a turbo unit as standard, which enhances performance, with a noticeable increase of power once the car's rev counter is over 2,750rpm. It's not quick off the mark or particularly fast - it's a diesel - but it is sufficiently nippy and is the most reliable car I have driven.
From new, and now with 45,000 miles on it, with regular servicing I have not had a part changed, except the odd bulb, or oil filter.
The air conditioning is an excellent accessory and I have never had any problems with the unit itself - having driven through France and Spain twice.
The only down points which I have...

sleek lines/italian influence sells 406
Review of Peugeot 406 1.8 by
limmey
Advantages: comfortable, quick
Disadvantages: electrics needed main dealer, original models had ignition gremlins
...406 LX 1,8 litre. I bought this as a second hand ex-company fleet model, three years old and 72000 miles on the clock. My father had owned the older 405 1.9 diesel estate and was very happy with both of them. the Italian styling brought Peugeot into line with the likes of the renault laguna and the streamline looks were a total change from the traditional box like affairs of the 405. The front allowed even more leg room and the back passenger seats accommodated 3 adults. Being 6ft 2in I was pleasantly surprised by the leg room. The seats were plush material. The rear seats allowed the backs to fold down but the actual seating part seemed more static. In between the rear seats was an arm rest that folded down and this allowed access into the boot via a small panel that in the handbook described it as a utility for holding skis. You...

My new 406 1.9 TD LX-S
Review of Peugeot 406 1.9 by
terry.barker
Advantages: Big, Bold and Beautiful
Disadvantages: None so Far!
...I am now the proud owner of a 4-year-old 406 1.9TD. And what can I say - 'What a car!'. I love it. My previous car was a Ford Sierra 2.0 Petrol and this new 406 delivers all the power I'm used to with the extra comforts of a newer car.
Power steering comes as standard, which is a godsend in my opinion. I wondered why my arms always ached after a long drive before! As I read in a previous opinion the full lock does not give as tight a turning circle as I am used to but it's only a niggle.
Other extras include electric front windows, air conditioning and a 10 CD changer. The windows have two position button - press them hard and the window opens fully. This can be a little annoying, especially if it's raining!
The air conditioning works hot or cold. I thought air conditioning only gave you cool air but it actually de-humidifies hot...

406 2.0 hdi GLX manual V-reg
Review of Peugeot 406 2.0 HDi by
perkinsg
Advantages: fuel economy, refinement, handling
Disadvantages: expensive dealer servicing, average image
...I bought my 406 when it was 1 years old with 15000 miles. Since then it has done 45000 miles in two years.
I have been very pleased with it except for the front disk brakes which I will come to later.
It's most oustanding features are fuel economy and refinement.
On my 40 mile commute covering A roads and fast dual carriageway, the 406 averages 54mpg. I think that is an excellent figure for a car of this size, (the lowest I ever got was 49mpg). I do not drive slowly and overtake whenever safe; indeed 4th gear overtaking performance is very good. Standing start acceleration is not as good as an equivalent petrol, but then that's the same for the majority of diesels.
Refinement is also excellent. At 70mph the engine is doing 2250rpm, indeed at 100mph it's doing just 3100rpm. It just loves to cruise at very high speeds, 100mph...

Pretty & Perfect Pug
Review of Peugeot 406 2.0 by
markd_uk
Advantages: Spacious, Comfortable, Economical, Pretty
Disadvantages: Sales-Rep Reputation, Depreciation in Value, Driving Position
...and she told me not to buy them. Instead, she said, she'd found a car forecourt near us that might just be worth a look, so we headed up there and I mosied around the selection.
An ice-blue Peugeot 406 stood out from the crowd. At £4000 it was above my budget, but I could stretch to it if I needed to; most importantly, it ticked all the right boxes. Equipped with digital climate control and air conditioning, automatic windscreen wipers, electric mirrors, all round electric windows and a two-litre engine with automatic gear box, it - at the very least - deserved a test drive.
Fifteen miles later, the deal was done. For £3500 I was the proud owner of a five-year old Peugeot 406 GLX, and in that price the dealer did a full service, cambelt change, MOT and added a year's warranty to the car too.
Now I have never, in my driving life...
