He Ain't Heavy, He's my Brother HL6050 !
Review of Brother HL 6050 by
ChrisAllsopp
Advantages: Fast and Reliable. Reprint and Dual side functions
Disadvantages: Large Footprint, and noisy
...My old Epson finally gave up the ghost around 10 months ago, which lead me to look for a new Printer to hopefully last me the next 5 years.
I eventually chose the Brother HL6050. Although this machine is probably the largest of the ones I looked at, it is by far the best. 42cm deep, and 31 cm tall.
The Brother Hl 6050 is a mono laser printer, and cost me £299 from dabs.com.
Incredibly quick printing, for the price (24ppm - pages per minute), and a paper tray which holds a full ream (500 sheets).
You can use traditional cables, or USB or Infra red. I use USB, as this is very quick and reliable, unlike the infrared.
One very useful function is the reprint function. If you have just printed out a document, and need another, simply press the reprint button, tell it how many copies you require, and press go...

HL-1250 - Speedy, reliable, inexpensive
Review of Brother HL 1250 by
pc-tech
Advantages: Print speed, quality, upgradability, price, reliability, quite small, easy to print on envelopes/small paper, Works under Windows XP
Disadvantages: Square design, 4MB memory not enough for some image printing, supplied drivers not excellent
...ones print with the right colours but do not have all features of the Brother drivers.
5. The famous flickering light problem. Every product that is released today seems to have one problem that everyone dotes on. This is the HL1250 one; when the printer is turned on, it makes the lights dim for a second approximately every half-a-minute. This is a true problem, but it only happens when the printer is actually on (it goes into standby after a couple of minutes), and I barely notice it now.
I would in no way count this against the printer.
OTHER COMMENTS
The upgradability of this machine is good - an extra 250 page paper tray can be added, bringing total paper capacity up to 500 sheets. An ethernet card can also be added for network connectivity.
I had to choose between this and an HP LaserJet 1200. I chose this because...

Very bright but has its weaknesses
Review of CatEye HL-500 II Micro Halogen by
Pritch
Advantages: Very bright, good battery life
Disadvantages: Brighter lights available, build quality questionable, battery heavy and gets in the way
...Normal AA battery powered lights. Nothing wrong with them really, for city centre riding, where you could really get away with no lighting whatsoever. Head out on a country road, or go off-road at night (try it - it's quite fun!), and you need something with a bit more oomph. I've always trusted CatEye as a brand, so off I went to my local bike shop and investigated their range of lighting, and stumbled across these.
The HL-500 II consists of two of the Micro Halogen lights that previous CatEye users may be familiar with, but with the normal 2.5W bulbs uprated to 6W each. You also get various bits of cable and a sealed lead acid battery, with a supplied charger. Fitting the lights is a simple operation, with simple thumbscrew brackets which attach to your handlebars and the battery hanging from the frame.
Here you may hit...

Brother HL 1050
Review of Brother HL 1050 by
adamdavid
Advantages: Quick, good quality printouts
Disadvantages: Doesn't seem to last very long
...The Brother HL-1050 is a fairly good laser printer. I've had mine for just over two years and in that time I've had no problems with it until recently.
It can be connected via either parallel port or USB, comes with 4MB of memory and has a claimed print speed of 10ppm with a maximum resolution of 1200x600dpi. It is fast and handles text superbly and graphics adaquately. Toner cartridges are twenty five quid a throw and last a couple of thousand pages (I think) depending on print density and stuff like that. The printer driver offers a useful little window that opens and tells you the status of the printer (if it's asleep, if the toner is low, if the paper is jammed, etc).
It is a quick printer, but it's not that small with a footprint of roughly 14.5" x 14.5" and a height of approximately 11". It's not quiet either. The paper...

Brother HL5240 laser printer
Review of Brother HL 5240 by
marktomo06
Advantages: Good all round laser printer, loads of pros
Disadvantages: very few, if any
...General & price:
WOW, what a brilliant printer this is. Another great laser from Brother. I have had this printer for quite a few months now. I bought it for around £150 but the prices come anywhere between £140 and £220 from verious online retailers or some high street stores.
There is so much i could say about this printer but it would take me ages to write it all and i'm not sure if i can handle it all. But i will right all the important parts.
Design:
The design of the HL5250dn is brilliant. In my opinion the best looking printer Brother have ever done. Most of Brother's lasers as well as many others on the market are just a neutral cream colour but this is black and grey which may not sound very appealing but when you see it, it looks great. It is a good size, simple printer that will fit into any office, school or home...

Brother HL 1430
Review of Brother HL 1430 by
nanger
Advantages: Value for money
Disadvantages: Bulky compared to newer laser printers
...I have had this printer for over 2 years now and have had no problems with it since the day of purchase. I use my printer to mainly print out word documents, emails and work for university.
--Looks/Size--
Compared to newer laser printers the Brother HL 1430 looks boring and is also quite bulky. However what it lacks in looks it certainly makes up for in quality and reliability.
Dimensions: 36x23.5cm
Weight: 9.2Kg
--Laser Vs Inkjet--
I had two inkjet printers before purchasing my first laser printer. For the sort of documents I print I find a laser printer much faster, more reliable and also of a higher quality. Over the last 2 years this printer has proven to be cheaper than my other injet printers as the ink cartridges dried out and were expensive to replace. Since I have had this printer I have still not replaced the toner...

Laser Printer, yes please.
Review of Brother HL 5130 by
Griffin000
Advantages: Cheap consumables, Cheap laser printer
Disadvantages: Not as fast as stated
...Brother HL-5130
Price: £123.37
Resolution: 600pi x 600dpi
PPM: 17
Memory: 8MB
(Prices were gathered from wstore.)
Having compared the four machines it seemed the Lexmark E232 was the one to go for but I had yet to look at the consumables of the printers. The HP had the cheapest of the toner cartridges at £36 but it’s yield was only 2,500 pages, next up was the Brother at £44 for an impressive 6,700 pages, then came the Lexmark for £45 but for only 2,500 pages and last but not least Epsom at £65 for 6,000 pages. As I am a very high user of my laser printer (I use it for business as well as home use) consumables must be factored into the price of the machine when buying. This left me with no choice but the Brother whose excellent yield per toner cartridge would cost me less in the long run. Having already owned a Brother printer I...

Oh Brother
Review of Brother HL 1250 by
wulise
Advantages: Great print quality, also economical.
Disadvantages: Not a Colour printer!
...a large 4Mb along with a powerful processor allowing this professional printer, to print twelve pages per minute and is claimed to be ‘exceptional’ with 1200 dots per inch and has a 500 sheet printing volume when a second 250 sheet is added.
The Brother HL-1250 Laser Printer having multiple emulation’s and print drivers ensures that compatibility wide a wide rang of computer environments. It has a USB and parallel ports, which allows connection to any system. The Ethernet interface also allows connection to the Internet.
The build quality of this printer also seems sound. The Brother HL-1250 Laser Printer is designed for durability, making this machine an ideal solution for all applications, from home to the office. The cost of this machine is £260.00 from Office World and includes a twelve-month guarantee.
I thought of including all...

Brother HL 5270DN
Review of Brother HL 5270DN by
techno_man_37
Advantages: cheap ink, print quality
Disadvantages: big, bulky
...effectively you can have room for 800 pieces of paper however 500 of these are optional and you usually do have to pay extra for the optional 500 piece paper tray to fit inside.
The screen on this is handy and its good it having a screen however it’s a bit of a let down that this isn’t a colour screen.
Instead its only an little strip screen much similar to those on calculators, however on the plus side it does have a back light and its east to read and allows you to navigate your way through the menus on the printer.
The printer its self is quite big, however being that its in an office this shouldn’t really be a problem, however if you were to use one of these at home it might big a little too big.
This printer even has a wi fi option, this means its got wi fi built into it, in the same way a laptop does. This means you...

HL 2040 Black and White Laser printer review
Review of Brother HL 2040 by
Jon_Farrimond
Advantages: Small, Cheap
Disadvantages: Errrr not many really.
...it also has no problem with large jobs or high sized images with which some lasers have suffered at the hands of in the past.
Also Brother claim their toner cartridges can do 1,500 sheets, I think they are wrong. I've gotten through 1.5boxes of paper (3700ish sheets) on the free toner that came with it.
Its basic specs are;
*Max. Print Speed - 20pages per minute
*Max. Print Resolution - 2400x600dpi
*Interface - Parallel or USB
*Memory - 8MB
*And a little single sheet feeder which I have never used, but it looks like it works.
This is a great product for small offices or homes and will cope very well with all print jobs sent to it. To be honest it just doesn't muck about. Its also very quiet and has a sleep mode for when its not in use which makes it silent and light free.
One thing I should say about laser printers...
