THE GOOD THE BRILLIANT AND THE UGLY???
Review of Toshiba Tecra A6-171 - Core 2 Duo T7200 2 GHz - 14.1" TFT by
cindyhigham
Advantages: Very good spec for the money
Disadvantages: Love or hate design, Screen could be better.
...3Ghz AMD Sempron + 1Ghz DDR II RAM) and my laptop. The difference in speed is astounding. My new laptop wins hands down for speed.
Another impressive feature was the 4Mb L2 Casche. Most machines on the market even at the higher end price range, including the likes of Sony Vaio, have an L2 Cashe of either 1 or 2Mb
Memory:
Installed as standard is 1Ghz DDR-II RAM at 533Mhz.
A real bonus with the A6-171 is that the RAM is supplied in the form of 1 stick of 1GB. The vast majority of PC / laptop manufacturers have an annoying habit of supplying memory in the form of two sets of lower memory, (E.G. 2 x 512Mb rather than 1 x 1Gb) hence using up both the available memory slots. The advantage of having just one stick supplied as with the Toshiba, is that upgrades become a lot cheaper option, without having to waste half the memory you had...

Corsair DDR2 6400C4 800mhz 2GB (2x1GB pair)
Review of Corsair XMS2 DRAM 2 GB PC2-5400 by
ClockworkUniverse42
Advantages: Excellent speeds, reliable, very cheap, decent overclocking potential
Disadvantages: Slightly poor quality of heatsink
...Unfortunately the link to the Corsair XMS2 DRAM 2GB PC2-6400 C4 only goes to this page. So here's where I'll write my review!
I'm going to just go ahead and state it right at the beginning - this is some excellent memory. It's fast (800mhz), it has lower timings (4-4-4-12), it's reliable, and it's very cheap. You can pick the 2GB set of two modules up from £35 anywhere now, which is a phenomenally low price. That's really the hallmark of this product - low price, high quality.
At the moment, unless you're running games in Windows Vista, there's really no need to have 4GB of memory; even the most demanding game you can run won't use more than 2GB RAM. That's why I recommend this 2GB set to everyone I help construct computers. Not only it is fast, and so brilliant for games of all sorts, it's also cheap, so it's great for those with more...

Review of GeIL Value DRAM 2 GB PC3200 by
neonspirit
Advantages: good value for money
Disadvantages: cheap packaging
...well when i bought my new rig 5 months ago i spent a small fortune on the graphics card so started looking for some good priced and branded ram with good timings
i stumbled upon the geil ram and it looked perfect
i purchased the GeIL Value Dual Channel 2 GB DDR SDRAM kit and i now run itin my new box on an asus a8r-mvp motherboard with a 3.5 64 bit chip in it.
my rig is mainly used for gaming hence the need for a good graphics card and good ram
this ram has performed very well in both dual and single channel mode
currently i am running it in dual channel mode and combined with the rest of the pc i can run battlefiled 2 at max settings with no lag and still achieve 90 fps
overall for the money you cannot go wrong with this ram
the heatsinks on it look good and do work well....

GEIL
Review of GeIL DDR 2 Series DRAM 1 GB PC2-4300 by
Jon_Farrimond
Advantages: Cheap for what it is
Disadvantages: not backwards compatable with DDRI
...GEIL stands for Golden Empire Industries Limited. They use Samsung RAM that they repackage and test for you. There are only three companies in the whole world that make RAM and lots that repackage it. GEIL is one of them.
You can get this type of RAM in 533Mhz form all the way up to 1000MHz form, and it seems excellent.
I'm currently using two of these 1Gb sets and have found that they are both responsive and cool. They do not overheat like some RAMs and came well packaged and well presented.
The Specifications :
CAS 3-3-3-8
64x8 DDR2 FBGA Chips
240pin, Non-ECC, Un-buffered DDR2 SDRAM DIMM
Aluminum Heat-spreader
6 Layers Ultra Low Noises Shielded PCB
Overview
The specifications show a good fast module and its good that the devices comes with noise shielding. However it must be said that this is the lowest speed...

Geil is an American manufacturer of memory chips. In the UK they are not well known and face huge competition from the likes of Kingston and Crossair. However in America Geil is a big brand name with plenty of success stories behind them. In the uk their products are priced very competitively. However the general trend with computer memory at the moment is that it is rapidly getting more and more expensive as demand is out doing supply. The reason for this is the upcoming release of windows Vista and the recently released Core2Duo processors. For these reasons the price of ram is very volatile.
I was lucky enough...

Intel Pentium 4 2.4b
Review of Intel P4 2.40B 512KB S478 Box 533FSB by
Rabid
Advantages: Very fast, highly overclockable, quite cheap now
Disadvantages: None
...the processor 'react' faster and compute tasks faster.
Also the P4 2.4B now comes with 512kb of level 2 cache as opposed to the 256kb level 2 cache of older P4's, again this means the 'B' series of Pentium 4's offers a far superior performance increase with double the amount of level 2 cache at its disposal.
So how does the Pentium 4 2.4B perform?
Well, this will obviously depend on other components inside your PC such as type of RAM (SDRAM, DDR or Rambus) and which application/game you are running, no two persons may see similar results unless using identical setups and for this reason alone i dont feel it is fair to refer to benchmarks as such as this will only serve to show you what my personal PC is capable of and be of little use to you, needless to say tho that i upgraded from a P4 1.7 Willamette socket 478 to my current P4 2.4B...

Mmmmm..... DDR RAM
Review of Corsair Value Select DRAM 512 MB PC3200 by
andersonfamily
Advantages: Gives me an extra 512MB
Disadvantages: No manual.
...), DDR 266 MHz (more commonly know as PC2100). This is a PC3200 stick. Different motherboards take different RAM.
The way I found out the type of RAM my PC took was simple, I looked at the invoice. On it, it stated '2x512MB DDR400 RAM'. This means I had 2 sticks of 512MB over one stick of 1GB. 2x512MB costs less than 1x1GB.
Many computers only allow 2 sticks of RAM to be in at once, so I would recommend you open up you machine and look if you have any RAM slots free, look at the pictures to see what they look like.
RAM itself is very small, and is less tall than an A5 sheet of paper, and about an inch wide. It is easy to install, you simply pull a little catch, slot it in, and push the catch. Then you boot your machine.
The RAM itself is quite fast, hardly any RAM is faster than 400 MHz, and this is 400 MHz. It hasn't greatly...
