WG602 54 Mbps Wireless Access Point
Review of Netgear WG602 54 Mbps Wireless Access Point by
ilaskey
Advantages: Good features, repeater and bridging modes
Disadvantages: Minor installation problem
...addresses (the unique address every piece of networking hardware has) and setting the mode to repeater instead of access point. Once this was done, the second access point was unplugged from the LAN and taken downstairs to the first floor. As its job was to simply repeat, it could be stuffed out the way on its own with the only connection being the power supply unit.
At this point, the theory was that data would go from the network to the first WG602 via a network cable, be transmitted wirelessly out into the ether where the second standalone WG602 would pick up the signal and repeat it onwards at full strength. The PC downstairs should then get a better signal as it was receiving from a unit only one floor away, not two.
Happily, it worked first time with the destination PC showing between 95 and 100% signal strength instead of the 30...

Netgear WGR614 54 Mbps Wireless Router
Review of NETGEAR WGR614 54 Mbps Wireless Router - wireless router by
OllyBacon
Advantages: Easy setup, great customer support, good price
Disadvantages: None
...In short: Excellent router, easy to set up and good support from Netgear.
I bought this modem router from Ebay to set up a wireless home network. Depsite paying AOL money each month and seeing new customers getting this router for free we were told that we would still have to purchase it separately. As this was one of the AOL compatible routers I plumped for it due to Netgear's good name.
The router was installed easyily and using AOL software from their site my main computer was up and running using an ethernet cable. We did have a couple of problems setting up our two laptops to work wirelessly but one short call to Netgear and that was all sorted out. If you don't have laptops with built in wireless capability I would recommend getting the compatible wireless adapters from Netgear, these also are installed very easily. Even...

Review of NETGEAR DG834G 54 Mbps Wireless ADSL Firewall Router - wireless router by
TheDuke
Advantages: All-in-one package, ease of use, advanced features.
Disadvantages: Price
...wireless technology, and my research around the internet led me to the Netgear 54Mbps Wireless ADSL Firewall Router (with 4 port switch). Phew, what a mouthful, eh? This set up would mean that the PC beside the phone point would be physically connected to the router whilst the PC at the top of the house would be connected wirelessly which solves all my problems!
I can hear you all running away in terror at the horrible jargon, so stop! Return! I shall try to explain to you what this is all about.
I suppose the best place to start is the ADSL part. You probably know ADSL better as Broadband. Broadband is a fast internet connection (depending on the speed of the most common broadband connections it can be between 4 and 10 times faster than your ordinary modem connection). ADSL is generally associated with BT telephone lines. If you...

Belkin F5D7230 Wireless ADSL Modem Router
Review of Belkin 54g Wireless Cable/DSL Router by
patwanet
Advantages: Easy Set-up, Simple Interface, Good Performance
Disadvantages: 'Just Right' positioning required
...I purchased this router to enable me to use my laptop to access the internet both in my bedroom and elsewhere around the house at the same time as my mum was using the desktop PC, and also to avoid the need for trailing wires. I was hesitant at first as the £76.00 it cost was expensive, but I am glad I spent the money now.
My laptop already had a wireless card, so all I needed to do was purchase a pci LAN card for my desktop and I was ready to go. It took about 10 minutes to set up the router. I just plugged it in, connected the broadband microfilter and RJ11 cable, hooked it up to the desktop and it was ready. The quick-start guide was useful to a point, however it did not explain the settings well. Fortunately though, the user interface is quite helpful and the settings are pretty self-explanatory. Accessing the router...

Wireless Usb 54Mbps G Compact
Review of Linksys Compact Wireless-G USB Adapter WUSB54GC by
Jar_Dude
Advantages: Plug and play, easy to use.
Disadvantages: It is external, meaning not inside your computer.
...This product is very reliable great for people on the go, or even at home. Good office use and offers speeds that will satisfy anyones needs. There is only one inconvenience though, the fact that it is external. Since it is external there is always a better chance of it breaking, or being lost. Linksys is the leading networking brand and is very reliable, and there when you need it. The software provided gives you an easy to use network monitor which gives you the option to connect to what network you wish, save the network as a profile, and show the best link connection/speed. It has support for USB 2.0 and also USB 1.1 so it will work great on older computers. It is compatible with Windows 98SE, 2000, ME, XP, and also Vista. It has two wireless network modes 802.11g and 802.11b and is also compatible with 128-bit encryption....

Technically gorgeous operationally superb
Review of NETGEAR DG834G 54 Mbps Wireless ADSL Firewall Router - wireless router by
dave27
Advantages: Safe, secure, powerful
Disadvantages: A bit technically demanding
...Netgear 54 Mbps Wireless ADSL Firewall Router with 4-port 10/100 Mbps switch DG834G ... now that's a bit of a bloody mouthful, and no mistake!
These lovely, lovely guys certainly know what they're doing in terms of goodies. Now, goodies might be going a bit far because what they actually do is look after those weird things more generally known as THE GUBBINS which makes your system work at its best, and without which things just don't work properly, a bit like the engine in a car, when it's the driving experience you really adore rather than the engine per se.
According to the Netgear site (http://investor.netgear.com/overview.cfm), "NETGEAR, Inc. (Nasdaq: NTGR) designs, develops and markets technologically advanced, branded networking products that address the specific needs of small and medium businesses and home users...

You should buy this!!
Review of NETGEAR WGR614 54 Mbps Wireless Router - wireless router by
phoenix221984
Advantages: Easy to set up and use
Disadvantages: May have speed issues until firmware upgrade
...The Netgear WGR614 uses the standard 802.11g and can deliver speeds of up to 54 Mbps. It is a delight to setup using the smart wizard option and very easy to use. You can get it from most electrical or computer retailers. It is compatible with all 802.11g and 802.11b wireless cards and networks
It allows you to set up your own wireless (cable-free) home network so that you can share your cable internet and printing facilities with other computers or laptops in your home that have either built in wireless or an external wireless card. It is compatible with all 802.11b wireless networks and cards.
SETTING THE ROUTER UP
With the router you get the option to use SmartWizard, this is ideal for someone who has never set one up before. When you run it, it will automatically detect and configure your wireless router for practically all...

Wireless woes
Review of NETGEAR DG834GT 108 Mbps Super G Wireless ADSL Router - wireless router by
Pookie_Rabbit
Advantages: Good quality, easy to configure, plenty of features
Disadvantages: Did not get the speeds expected
.... As I said you get one cable so you may need to buy more if required.
The second and arguably better option would be to use wireless. Again you would also need wireless adaptors on your client machines.
Now lets take a quick look at the Wireless options of this product. One of the greatest confusions when looking at the different models of routers are the different (theoretically fastest) speeds the routers can run at, often signified by standards. The main ones are as follows.
802.11b - runs at a maximum of 11 Mbps
802.11g - runs at a maximum of 54 Mbps
"Super G" - runs at a maximum of 108 Mbps
Now the first point is you wont see many routers on sale that only run 802.11b anymore anyway. The second point is the speeds. If you are running Broadband/ASDL you are more than likely getting a maximum download speed of 2Mbps on your...

Linksys Wireless USB Adaptor's
Review of Linksys Wireless-G USB Network Adapter with SpeedBooster WUSB54GS by
daveylee20
Advantages: Perfection in every way. Shame it dosnt make you a cuppa tea also :-)
Disadvantages: The price would be seen as a little steep. But well worth it.
...as used. The 54G cost me £10 inc P+P, the only thing missing was the USB lead, which you can buy from as little as £1
The 54G-S was £20 which was brand new, A Bargain…
The 54G-R was £28 but was used, but all was as if new.
These are well worth the money you pay, even if there brand new from pcworld or where ever you purchase them from. I have tried a fair few of wireless adaptors, be it USB or PCI. I have not found any USB to match the quality & reliability as these have. The closest match I found to the quality & Simplicity for PCI was £69.99 from Ebuyer.com You can pay allot more for a much higher quality & speed.
Simple note for all novice pc users.
When your looking at a USB wireless adaptor & one says 54Mbps & another is a much higher speed. Don't be fooled into thinking the higher speed means faster internet. 54Mbps is way...
