Canon G5 conversion lens.
Review of Canon LA DC58B - lens adapter by  schrodingerspussy

Advantages: Make all of the extra lenses fit the camera.
Disadvantages: The colour.

...This particular review is aimed specifically at the Digital Canon G5 camera although this item will also fit the G3 model. The “conversion Lens Adapter ( LA-DC58B)” Hereafter referred to a “CLA” is entirely unremarkable. It is about 20g in weight. It appears to be made of plastic. Black on the inside and a very annoying grey colour on the outside. “Annoying” as the camera behind it and the lens in front are both matt black. And that is the only problem I can see there ever being with this item. It is designed to attach to the front of the G5 (G3) camera and enlarge the fitting to be able to take a 58mm screw thread. The covering of the lens on the G5 camera can be removed by the usual Canon “Push button and twist” method. This removes a polo shaped piece of covering from... Read review

A lens for sport and wildlife
Review of Sigma 50-500mm F4-6.3 EX RF HSM lens by  Coloneljohn

Advantages: Excellent over all range
Disadvantages: Weight and possibly cost

...The Sigma 50-500mm F4-6.3 APO AF/HSM zoom lens is a medium sized, medium weight and rather expensive lens. It is not a lens for anybody. But if your interest is in wildlife photography or sports photography then this is the lens for you. First the Technical aspects. High Performance Will fit Sigma, Mintola, Nikon, Pentax, and Canon Group/elements 16/20 Angle of view (degrees) 46.8 - 5 No of blades in diaphragm 9 Minimum focus 100-300/39.4 - 18.1 Magnification 1:5.2 Filter 86mm Dimension diameter x length (mm/in) 95x216/3.7x8.5 weight (g/oz)1859/65.2 It can be mounted on a wide variety of cameras. Best to make sure that Sigma makes the lens for your type of camera. I understand that it takes a different chip for each camera. A very useful feature is a Zoom lock. This revents zoom creep when the position... Read review

I am so glad I bought this lens.
Review of Sigma 70-200mm f2.8 EX Camera Lens by  Nige7Whit

Advantages: Larege aperture, high quality glass, cheaper than Canon.
Disadvantages: It's still a big, pricey lens.

...and dirt. With no sliding lens barrel to carry dust back into the lens as it retracts, the lens stays 'cleaner' internally. It has a built in tripod shoe, which I think is vital on a lens such as this, and I generally support it on a monopod whenever I can. The tripod shoe is on a collar, and can be moved around the diameter of the lens to suit whatever orientation the lens is in, or can be removed completely. A few key specification points next, not too deep, just an overview; -Dimensions: 183mm Long, 86mm Max Diameter. -Weight: 1,270g -Filter size: 77mm -Min Focus Distance: 1.8m -Min Aperture: f32 -Lens Hood Included? YES Another good feature of this lens (when bought in Canon, Nikon or Sigma fitting) is the bonus of HSM focussing. HSM is Sigma's version of Canon... Read review

Life Through A Lens
Review of Lens (France) by  heideroosjes

Advantages: Friendly Atmosphere
Disadvantages: Not A Tourist Destination

...the avidly supported football team, Racing Club de Lens play. Matches in the 42,000-seater stadium take place in the evenings (2000h) and are of great atmosphere. The supporters have often been voted number one in France and very little trouble ever occurs if at all (usually this comes from away fans and has only occurred once or twice in 5 years). Adult tickets are as cheap as €9 (£6) and can range up to €24 (£18) for the more reserved but less exciting seats. The Tourist Information Centre is regularly open and always willing to furnish a visitor with possible activities and sites of interest. They have many brochures on where to go and how to spend a day and can easily be contacted in advance by visiting www.ot-lenslievin.com or ringing +33.3.21.67.66.66. Good alternative to a kit zoom lens
Review of Nikon Nikkor wide-angle lens - 35 mm F/2.0 by  boliston

Advantages: Good for shooting in low light, compact, discreet, low weight
Disadvantages: None really

...This lens is an ideal "normal" lens for a digital SLR camera. It gives a similar field of view to using a standard 50mm lens with a film SLR camera. The reason for this is that most DSLR cameras have a sensor that is smaller than the standard 24x36mm area on each exposure in a roll of film. (24x36mm is often referred to as "full-frame") All Nikon DSLRs (apart from the new D3) use 16x24mm sensors known as "DX" size. These dimensions are 1/1.5 the size of full-frame, so the term "1.5X Crop Factor" is often used. If you take this 35mm lens and multiply by the 1.5X crop factor then it gives 52.5mm, which is the equivalent field of view this lens gives compared with using film. DSLRs are often sold with a basic "kit lens", for example an 18-55mm zoom lens. While being able to zoom is often useful, the downside... Read review

Compact 'standard' lens - a step up from 18-55mm
Review of Canon EF zoom lens - 28 mm - 105 mm F/4.0-5.6 by  happydadtoo

Advantages: compact; lightweight; sharp
Disadvantages: small zoom range; designed for 35mm film; no image stabilisation

...This lens is widely available from many sources, both new and secondhand. It is compact and light in weight and offers a significantly wider zoom range than the 28-55mm lens supplied as 'standard' on many Canon digital SLR cameras. Used on most Canon digital cameras, the effective focal lengths become 1.6x bigger (as the sensor is APS- sized, not 35mm sized), making it a 45 - 170mm zoom. Hardly wide-angle, but, at the lower end, it is roughly the same as the 50mm lens that all 35mm cameras used to be fitted with as standard. With digital cameras, the argument goes, you can 'stitch' several shots together to create a panorama and so overcome the lack of a wider angle lens. That's only true to a limited extent - but TRUE wide-angle lenses need a second mortgage at present! With focal lengths between 80 to 120mm being regarded... Read review

Good starter lens
Review of Sony SAL1870 - zoom lens - 18 mm - 70 mm F/3.5-5.6 by  jtamagnini

Advantages: standard zoom kit lens, KM compatible
Disadvantages: some darkening at widest angle

...This is the standard lens that comes with the new Sony Alpha 100 digital SLR camera (dSLR). It fits on to a the Sony a-mount or for those who have one of the old Konica Minolta Dynax camera, it will fit in the KM-mount. However it is a digital only lens so film purists will not be served well by it. Taking photos with this lens using the Sony camera is a dodle. The auto-focus or manual is done on the camera body so the lens only has two controls and those are lens length and manual focus if you are using it that way. The lens length is a large ring control in the centre which is of smooth operation with just enough resistance so you don't knock it accidently but not so much where movements could be jerky. Auto-focus is fast and very reliable but not as quiet as some would like, certainly not one for stealth operation! Manual... Read review

Great new breed of lens works with most new DSLRs
Review of Tamron 28-300mm Ultra Zoom Lens XR by  g8ina

Advantages: Works with Canon, Nikon, Minolta & Pentax DSLRs.
Disadvantages: A bit slower on AF than other lenses.

...of use for the Tamron. The XR stands for Extra Reflective, and along with various other acronyms, Tamron are trying to show that this lens is a bit like Nikon’s DX or ED series - in simple terms it’s just a more transparent glass, allowing more light through with less colour abberation, and it shows up very nicely in this lens. However, for low light work, the autofocus of my Nikon D70 struggles just a little on the odd occasion (more of a problem with the D70 than this lens, I suspect), but most of my low light work is astronomy at infinity focus anyway, so no real problems here. Also the AF is much slower than the Nikon DX or the Canon USM lenses I’ve seen recently, but not too slow that is causes any missed shots. I can still catch bees in mid flight ! With a range from f3.5 to f22 at 28mm and F6.3 to f40 at 300mm, it offers... Read review

Great 2nd Lens
Review of Sony SAL75300 - telephoto zoom lens - 75 mm - 300 mm F/4.5-5.6 by  jtamagnini

Advantages: Fast Focus, well built, reliable excellent performance all round
Disadvantages: Heavy, you will need a tripod

...a 1.5 crop factor, that means the lens is effectively a longest zoom of 450mm. With that you can take a good picture of a car number plate from about 450 meters away (500 yards in old money). The zoom is fast enough for sports like football where you can take quality shots from all accross the field. It is also very good for the bird watchers out there! I never thought I could enthusiasticly put a a camera on a tripod and use the camera as binocular to catch some wildlife like birds, squirrels and field mice. Bear in mind that this lens is quite heavy and you will need a tripod to use it after 100mm. After 100mm you will just get too much camera shake even if you are Arnie because the slightest will get amplified by the same magnitude. You should also remember that as 75mm is it's widest angle, this lens is useless to take photos... Read review
