Advantages: cheap throughout the week, good music, busy but not too busy, foam parties, friendly staff
Disadvantages: glass bottles on floor, expensive at weekend, samey music if go too often

...5th Avenue-THE no1 indie experience (5th/5th ave as known by locals) not what it says on the tin 5th avenue has a different price range and supposedly music depending on the dsay which you go. Monday and Wednesday are the cheapest nights whereas it gets expectedly more expensive at weekends but the music is basically the ame songs played everynight, I managed to go for 3 night in a row in one week and by the 3rd I never wanted to hear some of the songs again even though I know somw of them just from 5th avenue and have never heard of them in society. ---Monday Madness--- Probably one of the best 5th Ave nights, 2 free drinks upon entry before 10:30 which usualy consist of 2 vouchers, 1 for an alcopop and 1 for a beer so you usually see the girls and the lads swapping beer for alcopop tickets. i myself have been given a few free alcopops...

Cheap Drinks, Great Tunes

Advantages: good music, cheap drinks, fun nights out

...I love a good night out and since becoming a student in the Manchester area I have had to start all over again by finding out what clubs and bars I should go to or where I will like. I don?t mind the music in most clubs as usually it?s just general chart music but I hate clubs which play a lot of dance music. So, after one disastrous night trying out the Print works I found myself a lot less poorer and not really having that much of a fun night so I?d suggest avoiding there because the clubs are over hyped and to be charged £6.80 for a double vodka and coke made me feel sick so I decided I would not let this disaster of a night get me down and decided to try again. Advantages: bigger story, more to devour than before

Advantages: Cheap, Cheerful, Not Cheesy.
Disadvantages: If you don't like Indie music, don't go.

.....down memory lane. Ah yes 5th avenue, a place I have frequented many times and have had many a good laugh. Trying to write a review on clubs like this can be hard, especially as sometimes good nights have been had in there for the simple reason that I have been in there with about 10, or so, like-minded people. (By like-minded, I mean people who have a broad taste in indeie music, like to drink cheap booze, and plumb the depths of humiliation in order to impress women). Also I can honestly say I have never been there entirely sober, so if this review seems likes a series of hazy recollections, do forgive me. The music. The music is broadly "indie", but that shouldn't really put you off. Yes Oasis, the Stone Roses, Blur, The Charlatans etc, are played regularly, but the DJ doesn't try to diversify a bit. Yellowcard-Ocean Avenue

Advantages: Some great vocals
Disadvantages: got a little bored of a few songs

I love this track, the violins really give it a place. The vocals go well with the beat and rhythm. This is a track that really gets your attention. best indie club in manchester

Advantages: cheap, great music

...5th Avenue has gained a reputation as one of the most popular student clubs in Manchester, and with good reason, the drinks are cheap, the tunes are good (and very loud) and the dresscode is relaxed. Result - the club gets packed and the atmosphere is great. The club is quite large, it is basement level, with an upstairs bar, and balcony for viewing the dancefloor antics. The dancefloor itself is a little on the small side, but as there are very few seats, people will dance pretty much anywhere. There is one large bar, stretching the entire length of one wall, and 2 smaller bars, all well staffed, so there are no long Q's for drinks. There is not a great variety of drinks on offer, bottled heineken or carling is £1 a go which is the best bargain but spirits and the few alcopops on offer are cheap brands and usually not that...

mancs best alternative experience

Advantages: cheap beer, awesome music, great nostalgic atmosphere
Disadvantages: quite dark and dingy, but hey, that's what indie clubs are meant to be like!

...the hacienda was notorious in manchester for many years,. After its demise, 'manc' music carried on. with a vengeance and the indie revolution was with us to stay. 5th avenue continues to proviide many people with a quality night out., providing a wide array of music to cater for most 'alternative' tastes. located close to town, 5 mins walk from oxford road, where the buses run 24 hours, the location is good. It is down the road from canal street where the gay community socialise, but you won't find many gays here! 5th ave is legend amongst students and weds has always been student night where the drinks are dirt dirt cheap. (you will get hammered on bottled stella or cheap vodka, guaranteed!). The outside doesn't look too appealing, as it is merely a silver door with the name sign above it. The bouncers are pretty scary...

There's a Place Called Ocean Avenue

Advantages: Some strong tracks present on this thirteen track album.
Disadvantages: Some tracks fail to impress.

...'Ocean Avenue' is the 2004 album from the American Pop Punk band Yellowcard. Although fitting snugly into the genre of Pop Punk, the band actually incorporate a violin into their sound and this is something that makes them stand out a little from the crowd. When you listen to the music of Yellowcard it is not your standard Pop Punk affair and therefore their music is all the more interesting to listen to. The first track I ever heard from this album was 'Life of a Salesman', a track that initially put me off listening to 'Ocean Avenue' as I was not at all a fan of what I heard. With 'Life of a Salesman' there is just too much going on within the track at once and as a result it all seems a little congested as the band progress their way through this three minute piece of Pop Punk. The drums just don't seem to fit with the guitars...

Avenue Q-uite Brilliant!

Advantages: Wonderful lyrics
Disadvantages: Nothing special musically

...Over the three years of the show's run, everyone I know who has been to see "Avenue Q" has told me that I should go and see it because I would love it. Everyone from best friends to ex-girlfriends were telling me the same thing, so when I got the chance to check it out, I couldn't turn it down. It certainly says something for the show that of the people I went with, four of them had seen it before and were still willing to pay £20 to see it again. It is testament to how well people know me that I not only enjoyed the show, but also would happily pay my £20 and go again. Surprisingly, for all the hype, the basic idea is a simple one. "Avenue Q" is a snap shot into the lives of a group of 20- and 30-somethings who live on a section of a street called Avenue Q. They have their own struggles, many of them have no money, their jobs...
