MALMAISON NEWCASTLE - LE PETITE SPA

Advantages: Far too many to mention here!
Disadvantages: None, only that I would have likes to set up camp there!

...***This is a review only of the Spa facilities at Malmaison Newcastle, which can be used by hotel guests or visitors. As we did not stay overnight here, I cannot comment on the rest of the hotel, though everything we say and experienced was exquisite, and I would definately stay at one of their sister hotels if I am travelling away from Newcastle*** Having recently suffered from a bout of depression that left me feeling pretty rough, I decided to treat myself and my best friend to an afternoon being pampered at Newcastle's Malmaison. Their Petite Spa had just been refurbished, and so I decided this was the place to go. My friend flew up from London and we had lunch on Newcastle's Quay-Side, visited The Baltic Art Gallery, and headed over to Malmaison for our 5pm appointment. There are lots of treatments to choose from, ranging...

NEWCASTLE'S BEST KEPT SECRET....OOOPS!

Advantages: Amazing food, wonderful staff, good prices, good atmosphere...good everything!
Disadvantages: You'll want to eat every meal there!!!!

...PANIS CAFÉ One of Newcastle?s Best Kept Secrets So Don?t be Telling Everyone you Meet!!!! Down an old cobbled back lane in Newcastle, halfway down the hill to the Tyne, in spitting distance of the famous Theatre Royal, and overlooked by Lord Grey Himself, is a tiny piece of Sardinia, in the shape of Panis Café. It is a bit of a secret, and people who go there don?t usually talk too much about it, for fear of the place being overrun. I?ve been a regular there since it opened 10 years ago and if I take you there, it?s because you?re special, and I trust you will love it as much as I do. Panis Café is run by an Italian family, and it is THE Italian place to eat in Newcastle. They serve real Italian food, made with character and style, presented beautifully by real Italians in a place that brims with multi-lingual chatter and talk...

Fine Italian Food on the Tyne - Azzuri Restaurant

Advantages: Great food, popular, affordable
Disadvantages: Too noisy and crowded on Saturdays

...icecream-related creations around the restaurant so I don't doubt that - if you still have room - dessert would be worth trying. After finishing our meal we returned to the even more packed bar area to finish our wine. There was an air of being rushed by some members of the waiting staff, but others were very friendly, as I have mentioned. The prices were fairly reasonable, comparabale to most general Italian restaurants Overall, an enjoyable night out, a little too busy and noisy but as it was a Saturday night in Newcastle city centre I was not surprised and it's not a bad reflection on the restaurant itself. The food for the most part was excellent, with generous portions and countless options. I would definitely go back if only to try the steak!...

Review of Azzurri Restaurant, Newcastle upon Tyne

Excellent Service, Great Food

Advantages: see review
Disadvantages: see review

...It was my mam?s 50th birthday on August 31st and we wanted to do something special to celebrate. My dad decided to book a table at Azzurri in Newcastle (on the Quayside) as a surprise for my mam and we invited my Nana and my aunties and uncles. There?s too many of us for the whole family (cousins and their children) to all go for a meal together but we ended up with a party of 13. My dad had been here with work previously and he knew that it was nice which is why he chose this as the location. My dad did most of the booking via email or on the phone, but he did call in to leave a £50 deposit. As there was a large party we were given a choice of three set menus at three different prices per person (£20, £25 and £30). This offered a choice of 4 starters, 4 main course and 2 deserts. We all managed to choose something we liked from this...

Holiday Inn Seaton Burn - Newcastle Upon Tyne

Advantages: Helpful staff, good facilities, large comfy rooms
Disadvantages: A little bit far away from the city centre.

...My weekends away with the girlies always have to be cheap affairs, so we usually end up staying in some dodgy B&B on Brighton seafront or the back roads of Great Yarmouth, but when I was booking our trip to Newcastle, I stumbled upon the Holiday Inn website, and bagged us a right bargain! The price We booked on the Internet a standard double room, which slept up to 4 people in 2 double beds. The cost of this room per night was £54.50. Which works out to about £14.00 each per night! Cheaper than most B&B's! When we arrived at the Holiday Inn though, the price of this room was advertised as £155.00 per room per night. We queried this, and were told that our rate was the Internet rate, and as such we saved £100.00 per night! So please, if any of you ever need to book a Holiday Inn, do so on the Internet and save yourself...

Mighty Jokes From Little Acorns Grow

Advantages: No rent increases over the term I rented from them
Disadvantages: Uncommunicative, Poor customer service, Poor record on repairs, Moved office without telling us

...Acorn Properties, based in Jesmond, are a major letting agent for properties around the city of Newcastle upon Tyne, managing a large number of flats and houses across some of the most popular areas to rent in the region. I was a tenant of Acorn's for five years, so I feel I am now in a position to offer a detailed, long-term perspective on the company and what it is really like to be one of their clients. Way back in 2002, we originally chose to rent from Acorn for the simple reason that they were the only agency we could find that would accept us as tenants; the reason for this being that most agencies will (or at least, did at the time) rent student properties to households consisting entirely of students, and "professional" properties to people who work, but no one seemed to be prepared for tenants that were a mixture of the two. I...

Innkeeper's Lodge Newcastle

Advantages: quiet location
Disadvantages: some staff are a bit pushy

...My husband and I stayed in this hotel after having problems catching the ferry to Amsterdam ( look out soon for my DFDS Seaways review) and so we needed a place to stay overnight until we could catch the ferry the next day. In the Innkeeper's Lodge hotel booklet this particular hotel come under the name of Newcastle Airport but although it was in the direction of the airport it wasn't exactly nearby. The location is a few minutes off of the dual carriageway. We could actually see a medium-sized roundabout from our bedroom window but actually it is in more of a village location and the area was relatively quiet and we didn't get disturbed at all by traffic or pedestrians. If anyone hasn't come across an Innkeeper's Lodge before then the best way to describe it is that it's in the English country pub type style. Thats the only...

Newcastle-upon-Tyne

Advantages: Greta shopping, choice in nights out
Disadvantages: Weather, lack of late licences held by bars and pubs

...When I moved to Newcastle I was concerned about the weather - it can be very cold, but found that a great collection of high street shopping both inside and out of the wonderful Eldon Square helped take my mind of the temperature. Night life is also pretty good with something for pretty much everything from the classy Queyside area to cheaper drinking areas such as the local orientated Bigg Markett The city centre is always clean and on the whole the people are great, very friendly. Travel is also much easier than in many cities with the reliable metro service....

La Tasca? Non, gracias

Advantages: Quick service, good wine
Disadvantages: Bland food, over-priced, no atmosphere, toilets, chain

...that don't require cutlery. So, going to eat tapas at a chain restaurant was going to test me. Would the food be authentic, would the place have any atmosphere and could they make the tapas thing work? LA TASCA, NEWCASTLE UPON TYNE The restaurant is situated just behind the Quayside, not quite on the front but it has half a view of the river. Behind it is a multi-storey carpark and next door is the Malmaison Hotel. From the carpark you can enter the restaurant by the back door but there are half a dozen stairs which may cause problems for some customers. You can walk down the path at the side of the restaurant and enter by the front door if this is a problem for any of your party. The Q2, a bright yellow electric bus, runs from the city centre to the restaurant every ten minutes during the day, twenty in the evenings. The bar...

Fill up on tapas

Advantages: Lots of food
Disadvantages: It's a chain

...with or without food are normal city centre prices- around the £2 mark for a glass of wine, and whilst the sangria is £3.15 a glass, I usually find it better value to order a pitcher, which at £11.95 represents much better value! We tend to order a few things from each section, so that we get a bit of everything, although last time we had the set menu. The food comes in small dishes, and when they are served, each dish is explained to you, unless it?s completely self explanatory (like the salad). The dishes always seem quite small, until you start to eat, and then it?s incredible how quickly you are filled. CONTACT DETAILS: Address: 106 Quayside, Newcastle upon Tyne. NE1 3DX Telephone: 0191 2304006 Fax: 0191 2304007 Website: www.latasca.co.uk. The website is actually quite detailed and you can even book a table online. VERDICT: We quite...
