ASRock 775Dual-VSTA
Review of ASRock 775DUAL-VSTA - motherboard - ATX - PT880 Ultra by
nemesis2004
Advantages: Ready for future technologies
Disadvantages: No temperature monitoring hardware, BIOS flashing only works on windows
...processor installed in the Intel Socket 775, you can make use of x64 instruction sets available with a 64-bit operating system such as Windows XP x64 edition. It's unfortunate that many applications have not yet managed to embrace the full potential for this technology, but you can be assured that this motherboard will be able to handle it when that time comes.
- RoHS -
RoHS stands for the Restriction of Hazardous Substances and is a policy that ASROCK employ when manufacturing their motherboards in order to protect human health and the environment. So if having a fantastic motherboard for a cheap price isn't enough, you're saving the world in the process!

Nikon Coolpix 775
Review of Nikon Coolpix 775 by
picasso2k
Advantages: It's small, attractive and takes great photos!
Disadvantages: None that I've found so far.
...I won this camera in a prize draw and although I already had a digital camera, when I opened the box and had a look at this one I was delighted. The old Ricoh RDC-6000 I have looks so drab compared to this nifty little Nikon.
The two are similar in that they have a resolution of 2.1 mp's, but the 775 has the added bonus of the optical zoom (x3)lens.
I've seen it on sale in the shops from £280-300, so it has fairly typical specifications for that price range. The one thing missing in the box is any kind of case for the camera, and the soft leather one I bought cost about £12.
It was easy to set up using the included Quick start guide which comes in poster form, and I was taking my first pictures as soon as the battery had charged up ... only an hour or so later. Transferring the images to the computer is very simple using either...

This is a budget motherboard.
Review of ASRock 775V88+ - motherboard - ATX - PT880 by
Pendulum
Advantages: Loads of features for the price
Disadvantages: A poor performer
...notes:
It has 1x AGP slot. This is suitable for the casual gamer (like me) but PCI-E is newer and better than AGP. The more expensive motherboards tend to have PCI-E slots now, sometimes in addition to AGP slots.
It has Onboard sound.
It has SATA connectors (instead of the old IDE cables/connectors for hard drives, although SATA II is faster)
Claims to take up to 4GB of DDR memory.
Accepts 775-pin CPU's. Compatible with P4 up to 3.8Ghz, and Celeron up to 3.33Ghz.
- Installation -
The motherboard comes with all you need (including IDE hard drive cable, a SATA data and SATA power cable, and floppy drive cable). It also comes with a backing plate to fit on to the back of your case.
Installation was fairly easy, *except* for one small but frustrating problem I had. Motherboards have a socket/panel where you have to plug...

Easy to install and so far very reliable
Review of ASRock 775V88+ - motherboard - ATX - PT880 by
brianmcc
Advantages: cheap and reliable - easy to set up
Disadvantages: It's not PCI express
...I have actually built around 7 systems with this board, over the last year or so and all have stood the test of time well, with no problems or malfunctions of the boards themselves reported. The CPU's fitted ranged from a Celeron 2.6 GHz up to a P4 3.2 GHz.
As socket 775 boards go, there are more expensive boards out there, but if you are on a budget they seem quite acceptable and reliable. The first one I built was for myself, and was placed in one of those standard "Nokia" style cases, the drawbacks with that case is that the front mounted USB ports use separate cables to attach to the USB headers on the board.
As nearly all boards these days use the same pin outs, why they don't just have simple plugs is beyond me. Anyway, the manual has decent and easy to read diagrams showing what pins to use so there was no problem...

Shuttle proves that form doesn't kill function.
Review of Shuttle XPC SB83G5M - no CPU by
FoxFlame
Advantages: Form, function, auesthetic appeal. Beauty.
Disadvantages: Can't be expanded greatly, can get hot.
...want to data from one disk to another, use the HDD as an intermediate phase - problem solved.
So what can you fit into your new Shuttle Barebones? Well, a S775 Pentium 4 gives the system a stable CPU base - add this to a 16x PCI Express GFX card, a maximum of 2GB of DDR 400, a 32bit PCI slot and 6-channel audio support with SPDIF in/out you can really start to see why you'd need nothing else. Don't want to purchase a GFX card straight away? The on-board graphics will be enough to keep you going, and are more than meaty enough to handle desktop work.
* * *
So, what makes this the best barebones you'll ever buy? Performance, style and reliability. I've had mine for a while now, and it's never let me down. It gets dragged around to LAN Parties and friend's houses; it gets a 'Wow' from everyone that sees it. Truly, this is the show...

Intel P4 3.4 (Max processor is a 3.8Mhz) but for the extra money at thhe time price and performance wise i was not going to see the extra £120.00 put to good use

Superb CD Recorder udated
Review of Philips CDR-775 by
kwildchild
Advantages: Recorded cd's play on all cd players 100%
Disadvantages: --
...The Philips CDR775 is a fantastic machine for it's price, around £170 from www.srtl.co.uk, for starters when you record CD's on a PC they will not play on all CD players, where as the discs recorded on the CDR775 are 'Red Book Complient', this means that all the CDR's that you record will work 100% on all other players.
The CDR775 has two separate decks, one features a fully-speced CD-R/CD-RW Recorder/Player and the other a CD/CD-R/CD-RW player. The CDR775 is the ideal for mastering (to CD-RW or CD-R disc), and then for making CDR copies at high speed. All this from one low cost, stand-alone machine.
When recording onto CDR you have several options, you can record direct from CD using the players two trays at normal listening speed or double speed, this is great as you can record a CD in half the time.
Also you can record from...
