Belkin Powered Hi-Speed USB 2.0 7-port Hub
Review of Belkin Hi-Speed USB 2.0 7-Port Hub - hub - 7 ports by
patwanet
Advantages: Fast USB 2 Hub, Ports well spaced out
Disadvantages: Only for Desktop PC's really, Must have adequate PSU
...It should first be stated that this product is intended for use with a desktop computer and indeed it would only be practical to use it in such a manner.
The hub comes with an AC adapter which has a good length cable to reach the mains socket. A USB cable is also included to connect the hub to your computer. The hubs cannot function without the AC power.
There is nothing more frustrating than ports or sockets being too close together, meaning that large or bulky adapters or plugs can't fit in next to each other. This problem is avoided by the Belkin 7-port hub as the ports are well spaced out with four on one side and three on the other. There is an indicator light for each port to indicate whether it is working or not (on or off). There is no switch to turn off the hub - this would have to be done by disconnecting it from...

Port Ahoy! Cracking Belkin USB Hub
Review of Belkin Hi-Speed USB 2.0 7-Port Hub - hub - 7 ports by
fightgear
Advantages: great design, vertical ports for regular items such as memory sticks, led display
Disadvantages: maybe a bit expensive but comparrison but it is quality
...I bought this hub as an impulse purchase but based my decision on:
(a) you can never have enough usb ports
(b) belkin are a respected manufacturer
(c) I liked the design
It cost me £12 when I bought it but I think that was the stores mistake as I have seen it advertised at between £19 and £24. Even at that price though this is a good piece of kit.
Bearing in mind you can get USB 2 hubs for about half the piece of this one made by companies you may have never heard of, the design and features on this device make it a very attractive and useful addition to your desktop.
It has seven USB ports; five on the back and two placed nattily and very usefully on the top. The top ones are what make this great in my view. They are ideal for things you want to plug in and take out on a regular and irregular basis. I use them for usb...

Rub a dub HUB
Review of 3Com SuperStack II 100 TX - hub - 12 ports by
andycharger
Advantages: Enough connectivity for a small office
Disadvantages: Pricy
...only have 4 computers but intend to expand, buying a 8 or 12 port hub might seem the better choice. Remember, each computer needs its own port so this would allow you to connect either 8 or 12 computers.
The hub I am going to review is one we have used here in the office.
It is a 12 port Hub but we actually have 2 of them. Each port is not overloaded and runs about 8 users in each quite happily. We never have a problem with network traffic from the hub as its superior performance is more than capable of handling our daily routines.
I would suggest this is a great hub for people that intend to set up between 4 and 12 computers for either office environments or game play.
It also runs on RJ-45 technology. This means it takes the phone connector type leads from your network card. This is great if you have a modern computer...

Targus Ultra Mini 4-Port USB Hub
Review of Targus Ultra Mini Hub - hub - 4 ports by
matt_fantastic
Advantages: Funky glowing lights
Disadvantages: Cheaper "clones" are available
...I bought the Targus Ultra Mini 4-Port USB Hub as I have more USB items than USB sockets on my laptop docking station.
Its compact dimensions (width 9.5 cm, depth 4 cm, height 1.5 cm, weight 40 g)and included USB connection cable allow it to fit anywhere on the desk, and its four USB 2.0 ports (480Mbps data transfer) allow rapid connection to all sorts of peripherals. It's also backward compatible with older USB 1.1 devices, and Apple devices I believe, too.
Installation (with Windows XP SP2) is a doddle, with no drivers aor anything to install, just plug it in, wait a few seconds while Windows does its stuff, and we're off. Connecting USB peripherals previously connected directly prompts Windows to repeat its "Found New Hardware" business, but this takes just a few seconds.
When peripherals are connected, the plastic around...

3Com OfficeConnect TP4 4 Port Ethernet Hub
Review of 3Com OfficeConnect TP4 - hub - 4 ports by
matt_fantastic
Advantages: Ebay bargain !
Disadvantages: Only 10 mbps, Only 4 ports
...Bought this on Ebay for a bargain £1 to expand my network. I've since replaced it with another 3Com hub (check out my other reviews), but thought I'd still let you know a little about it.
It's an entry-level, 4 port hub, but only 10BASE-T, rather than the faster 100BASE-TX - that's why I upgraded, so you can connect 4 users together.
There's one (manually switched) MDI-MDIX port to provide simple "in" connection from a server, switch, or hub, and three other female RJ-45 ports to send the network signal out to 3 other items.
The hub has an external power supply and a "CoolCurve" self-cooling design eliminating the need for a noisy fan. Its dimensions (height: 3.6cm, width: 23.1cm, depth: 13.6cm) allow it to fit nicely with other 3Com OfficeConnect units - special stacking clips are available.
It's an "unmanaged" hub, so...

Trust External 4 Port USB Hub
Review of Trust 4 Port USB Hub - HU 4140p by
tokenboy
Advantages: Price.
Disadvantages: You have to destroy the box to get the unit out.
...Trust 4 Port USB Hub.
Basics first I suppose. For the non techies out there, this device is used to connect up to four USB devices to your P.C., such as digital cameras. If like me you only have two USB ports on the back of your pc then this little device is a good investment for you. It is external, so there is no need to take the sides off of your computer and start mucking about inside.
The box contents are as follows.
USB Hub
USB Cable
Velcro Tape
Protective Carry Case
Multi Language User's Manual.
The hub is a small black unit with single connecting point on the back and four USB ports on the front for your USB peripheral such as digital cameras and MP3 players. A really big well done for Ciao for not putting a picture up, as I did provide the web address so that they could. The dimensions are 75mm...

Dlink 5 Port 10BASET HUb
Review of D-Link DE 805TP - hub - 5 ports by
darkteckno
Advantages: value
Disadvantages: none
...The D-Link 805TP is a great hub to use if you have very little desk space available, and need to network up to 5 workstations together either in a workgroup or a LAN environment. The Hub has 5 LED lights on (5th port is the uplink port to connect to your local LAN if you desire). The remaining 4 ports have UTP connections with corresponding LED's. Power is drawn from a AC/DC jack plug transformer. Great value annd a great buy! If you need a hub then this is the one to buy!...

hot hub!
Review of NETGEAR DS108 - hub - 8 ports by
PhilSp
Advantages: quality of build
Disadvantages: runs hot
...and i mean that litterally!
Out of all the hubs have - I have to say that the Netgear stuff runs hot! I have to put a couple of 486 heatsinks on it! - it doesn't have vent slots like the FS108 - shame as it does got hot during the summer, and just nice and warm during the winter.
It has link lights for all ports (10/100) and the best of all, individual utilisation bar graphs for 10/100 and collision.
There are cheaper hubs, though they won't be made out of metal - like the netgear stuff - it'll be made out of cheap plastic.

8 port hub
Review of NetVin - NV008 by
QuinnTheEskimo
Advantages: Cheap, small
Disadvantages: Runs very hot
...An 8 port hub is an 8 port hub, right? There's nothing that can really seperate one from another, right? Not true. This hub, in addition to seven standard RJ45 ports and one switchable from standard to an uplink port, boasts two different power supply options, a co-ax connector for interfacing to coax networks, and activity indicators on each port. And it's impressively small, no wider than 8 RJ45 sockets edge to edge and only 3 inch deep. However, the hub does run worryingly warm, so much so that we had to increase the ventalation in our server cupboard. It's a cheap and cheerful hub. perfectly adequate for most networks, though I would not want to rely on it for anything vital....
