...Around the World in 80 Gardens is a gardening programme with a difference, because it's looking at the contribution of gardens to cultures around the world rather than explaining how to grow your own garden or the basics of garden design. There are 10 episodes in the series, and as I am writing this only one has aired. In the first episode presenter Monty Don (who is also the main presenter on Gardeners World) visits gardens in Mexico and Cuba. Details of first episode The first 'garden' visited is the Floating Gardens at Xochimilco, near Mexico City. These gardens were built by the Aztecs, to provide food for their capital city, and have been in constant cultivation ever since (although the area cultivated has decreased considerably). In the night garden ninky nonk train set

Advantages: strong, versatile, compact, nice bright colours, fun to play with

...I decided to buy the in the night garden ninky nonk train set from Amazon as my young daughter is a big fan of in the night garden and whenever it comes on TV she gets really excited. So as my daughter already had some of the other characters from the show I wanted her to have the whole set and since buying it the train set the ninky nonk train set has become one of her favourite toys to play with on a daily basis. The train set can come apart and be attached on many different ways and my daughter enjoys looking at the nice bright colours and putting some of the other in the night garden characters onto the train set even though it keeps falling of now and again it keeps her busy and sometimes I hear her in fits of giggles. The train set is very cute and versatile and its great as children such as mine can have hours of fun with it...

The Spice Garden - No Garden, Plenty of Spice

His eyes lit up; "Can we have curry?" he asked excitedly. And so at around 6.30pm we left the office to go in search of a new curry restaurant that we'd not tried before. I'd spotted the Spice Garden on my way to work that morning and decided that this time it would get our custom. A garden to die for!

...The Alnwick Garden in Northumberland is a really lovely place to visit, as I discovered recently when in the area. I had decided to visit on the recommendation of a friend who had recently spent a day there, and had spent quite a while telling me about it afterwards. The Garden on the Downs

Advantages: Easy to get to and small and shady enough to enjoy without getting exhausted in the heat.

A few facts about the Garden:- Highdown Gardens was created 90 years? ago by Sir Frederick and Lady Stern who set out to prove that you could grow a garden on chalk. Gardeners Delight

...I can vaguely remember a time when garden centres didn't really exist and they were called nurseries instead. Strangely enough they only sold plants and garden accessories. How things have changed though, now you can almost do your weekly shopping there (well maybe I exaggerate a little), but they really do sell almost everything and you can even get a bite to eat when you're there. Peter Barratts Garden Centre in Newcastle is no exception. WHERE IS IT ? It's located to the north of the city next to Gosforth Park / Newcastle Racecourse. It's only a 5 minute drive from the A1 if you take the Killingworth / Wideopen junction, or similarly 5 minutes from the Killingworth turn off of the A19. One of the other main route's running out of Newcastle city centre, the A189, literally passes by too, so it's very accessible by car...
