Hi-Gain HWREN1 Wireless-300N Ease of Use & Benefits
Advantages: Ease of Use, Excellent ranges covered, no disconnections
Disadvantages: None that i can say
...I run a network suite of 7 computers that link to a central server. I host servers for online multiplayer gaming ranging from First person shooters, simulations and Role Playing Games.
It is important for me to have sufficient network coverage as there is a high bandwidth need. I use a hi gain wireless device to connect to my servers for admin purposes only. I find that wireless security is better than wired.
I live in a wide covered wireless zone where lots of signals are being sent to and from other wireless devices. Sometimes it can get hard to communicate with other devices as there is too much traffic in the area using a conventional wireless network card.
Because my servers are stored in a different location to where I live I would usually have to travel to the site to administrate the mainframes and it would take time out...

PCI Wireless 802.11G card for desktop PCs
Advantages: Cheap-n-cheerful
Disadvantages: Slow connections and poor range with supplied antenna.
...Mobile 802.11g internal Mini-PCI card.)
With the third party aerial I am pleased with this card. A properly configured BSD desktop PC offers a better service than that available from far more expensive wireless access points? once you?ve gone to the trouble to set everything up. Not a product I'd recommend to the non-technically inclined though....

WG302, connect me up before you gogo
Advantages: Good coverage, twin Antenna, easy to use interface
Disadvantages: None
...bad.
If like me though you want 100% and its for business then adding a second repeater 302 is also easy. I have never done this before but found it not to difficult. There is a load of information on the net and Netgear website to help out. The two units work well together providing great coverage around the office. This is probably aided by the units twin aerial design to give maximum coverage.
If like me you need to have a secure network, you shouldn't have any trouble here. (WEP) data encryption comes as standard for the 302 in a variety of forms.
You can also configure the 302 to run on the different network types, 802.11b,g and double g, although I have not yet figured out how to get 108MB.
There are also a variety of other features including VPN pass through support, WPA and address filtering.
In addition to the twin...

Computers in one room, Printers in another.
Advantages: Computers in one room, Printers in another.
Disadvantages: None I can think of.
...It states on the box --- BEFORE YOU BUY this product be sure you have a wireless router. --- I bought mine from Argos and it cost £49.99
We have 3 laptops at home and they all connect to our network wirelessly. if we wanted to print anything we had to physically hook up to a printer which more often than not was most inconvenient.
The Belkin Wireless G USB Print Server allows up to 2 USB printers to be connected. (you cannot add more printers via a USB hub.) Though it's a wireless print server it still comes with an Ethernet Cable so you can physically connect it to your router. If you choose this method of connection then the wireless function is automatically disabled.
Before you can use a printer via the print server you need to physically install it on each computer you are planning to access it from. (You do not...

How to save your connection
Advantages: Big
Disadvantages: Long cable
...have for you though. The aerial itself improves signal strength by 6dB/decade (just a technical term - don't worry, its a good number though) but the cable used to connect the device looses 3dB/decades of signal strength to noise per meter. You only get 50cm of cable with it so loose about 1.5dB/decade to extra noise but this does cut down the improvement. (Hence why a long cable is a disadvantage)
This means that you have to weigh up its usefulness to you. Where within 50cm of your wireless card can the device be placed to best improve signal and if it can't be placed easily within 50cm's how much extra cable (and therefore extra signal loss) will you need to get it somewhere useful? In theory any improvement to your signal is good but to play it safe you should probably go for an extra signal gain of 3dB/decade. So you've only got 1m...

Nokia N95
Advantages: Feature rich, 3G phone, available on all networks.
Disadvantages: Battery life, Size
...This phone is robust, feature rich and replaces a variety of other electronic aids
There is a great synchronisation with Nokia PC suite so your Outlook contacts and meetings can be easily updated to your phone. There is a built in FM radio working with headphones and a wired remote control of frequency and volume. The device is Wi-Fi so you can connect to Ethernet 802.11G routers and Wi-Fi providers prevalent in cities and restaurants around the country. Bluetooth offers a simple way to connect with your PC or other supported devices.
The Carl Zeiss lens and 5 Megapixel resolution make the camera a great value add allowing you to happily leave your digital camera at home.
GPS and the Nokia Maps applicaton allow Satellite navigation possible while travelling by car although using a seperate GPS mouse might allow better lock...

iPod Touch Review
Advantages: Very slim design, superb visuals, built-in wifi with full web, jailbreak to increase functionality
Disadvantages: Isn't the BEST sound, but that's being very picky!
...the MPEG-4AVC codec, the quality is simply breath-taking.
But that is what you expect from Apple, right? Well the iPod Touch features an awful lot more. Inbuilt 802.11g WiFi is probably the biggest thing about the iPod Touch, enabling you to browse the FULL web - no more squashed screens. Simply use your fingers to zoom in and move it about seamlessly. Whilst a flash plugin for this mobile safari may not be present as yet, there are workarounds to view flash content online. However, there is a seperate YouTube application, giving you access to all of youtube's collection without the need to use safari!
Whilst the legal purposes of the iPod Touch are fantastic, the not-so-legal aspects are even better. "Jailbreaking" your iPod further increases functionality and basically allows you to do anything you want to it, letting you play games...
