Playstation 3 80GB

Advantages: Powerful - Good Looking - Easy to setup - Loads of games
Disadvantages: Quite heavy and bulky - Slow install and download times

...Pretty much all of the versions are the same - but this is for the 80GB version. This is my opinion but after having the 40GB version - I do feel that this system stays cooler than the 40GB version. The console is very heavy - and it is quite bulky - but it doesn't really matter. It looks very stylish - but it is basically a fingerprint magnet - the marks can be wiped off - but it is a bit annoying. Setup - When you first attempt to setup the console - it is best that you read the instructions - it can be complicated. If you are connecting to a HD TV - you basically just connect the cable to the TV and console - turn console and Tv on - then select HDMI on the TV - then run the setup - it will says a HDMI device has been detected - do you want to configure - say yes and then let it detect the settings - the screen will go blank...

PS3 slim

Advantages: Blu-ray, free online, nice extras like vidzone & iplayer. Almost silent operation
Disadvantages: Rubbish controller, still expensive, online nowhere near as good as xbox live

...Well, had the slim for a few weeks now (my 1st ever playstation), personally, I'm a little underwhelmed by it, I've been a gamer since the nintendo game & watch days & owned @ least 1 of the current gen consoles since the Mega Drive(Genesis). Graphically the system has the potential to wipe the floor with the 360, but this is really only going to apply to PS3 exclusives as any software house making a multi-platform game is going to be as cost effective (lazy) as possible & use the same graphics on all the games where possible(ok, they need to dumb them down for the Wii). My problem here is that I have yet to get a game for it that runs in 1080P, they all seem to be in 720P! Why???? I'm sure they are out there, but I haven't found one yet. I guess this is down to most HD tv's being HD ready rather than Full HD. Sound-Yeah, ok...

The slots that are available are: • • USB: Front x 4, Rear x 2 (USB2.0) • Memory Stick: standard/Duo, PRO x 1 • SD: standard/mini x 1 • CompactFlash: (Type I, II) x 1 The USB can be used for Transferring files between PS3 This is probably the main form of Storage, now the best part is you can connect your external USB hard drives to the PS3 so you will have even more storage space. To PS3 or not to PS3?

Advantages: An amazing machine, expandable, some great features
Disadvantages: Expensive (but for a reason), almost internet reliant, no browser security

...this is as I've not been online with it, but the idea is you can have chats with your mates who also have PS3s. Voice chats can be done too, so it's almost like a VOIP (internet telephone) system. Sounds good in theory, but whether it works good or not I'm sorry I can't say. You do need a USB headset though to enjoy this function from what I believe. Oh, if you're appalled by the hard drive size of the PS3 that can be expanded too. It accepts most 2.5" SATA drives. These can be picked up for around £40 for an 80Gb version and from then on the prices go up. There is also a limit to what size drive the PS3 will handle, but I know someone who has hooked up a 250Gb drive to his PS3 without any problems so I'm guessing anyone who wants to upgrade their drive will be happy. ...40GB or 60GB (if you purchased an older console) the bottom right advertises the built in Blu-ray disc player. To help you carry it home it has a handy carry handle which unfortunately isn't very comfortable, it doesn't help that the box weighs 6.5KG and once I had brought the thing home my hand was aching! Once you have the box open you will notice the two carboard tabs instructing you on how to get your system out. There are two main segments, one smaller segment contains the Sixaxis wireless controller, AV cable, USB cable, and Scart adaptor. The second much larger segment contains the PS3 console itself, this is wrapped carefully in polythene to protect the console finish.
