8CM AND IT STILL PUMPS OUT PLEASURE.........
Review of Apple iPod shuffle 512 MB by
Badger_Boy
Advantages: Compact, light, stores 120 songs, well built, long battery life, easy installation of songs
Disadvantages: None......
...than an MP3 player in its own right. I actually thought my better half had lost her marbles and bought me a remote control!
Weighing in at just over 20 grams, the Shuffle is 0.8cm thick and 8cm long. It fits easily into the palm of my hand and makes it extremely portable. It sits neatly in my shirt pocket and isn’t noticeable at all. If you think of the weight of say 5 cash/credit cards in your top pocket you get some idea of some little this actually weighs.
Controlled via a plastic button circled in rubber, it has the basic controls of play/pause, forward and backwards. The circle is also used to increase and decrease the volume. Both practical and functional, this actually looks rather basic but it doesn’t need to have anything else. The people at Apple have stuck to their design plan and it has indeed paid off.
As for durability...

Size Doesn't Matter with the Sony MiniDisc
Review of Sony MZ-R70 by
MamasitaMofo
Advantages: Recordable minidiscs, size, MP3 files cn be downdoaded,
Disadvantages: Remote control cord a little cumbersome, need to purchase extra cable to record from stereo
...size (8cm x 7cm x 2 cm) make it ideal to take on trips or anywhere you want to hear music the way you recorded it. You will need to purchase extra cables to record music from your stero or DVD player. Another plus is an AC cord which also serves as a way to re-charge the NiCad battery included.
The only downside is the remote which does not take full advantage of the fuctionality available on the Minidisc such as the shuffle or repeat mode. Plus, there are not many cases that hold or protect the player. I lined the pouch included with bubble wrap to protect it from getting damaged.
For the price and the benefits, Sony made sure that size didn't matter here, quality did....

Sony MZN 710 MiniDisc Player.
Review of Sony MZN710 Net MD portable MiniDisc recorder by
dottymardon
Advantages: Small, Compact, Looks great and its a Sony
Disadvantages: Low earphone volume
...I have always been interested in portable music and I have since my first portable cassette player worn out an entire selection of various Walkmans and Discmans (Discmen?).
The MP3 format however never managed to appeal to me, as I like to have my music collection stored on some kind of external media instead of as files on my computer. I may be a bit old-fashioned, but I like to be able to grab one of my albums right off the shelf and pop it into my player for instant listening, without having to boot up the computer and download files to some hideously expensive memory card.
It didn't take long until I fell in love with the MiniDisc format - mainly for its portability and durability but also for the sound quality that pretty much surpasses everything that MP3 is capable of. And with the recent introduction of the NetMD concept...

Microboards GX-2 Disc Publisher
Review of MicroBoards GX-2 Disc Publisher by
Spinal333
Advantages: "works" with Mac and Windows
Disadvantages: Too many to list.
...To put it simply, this is a horrible bit of kit.
Now, going into more detail:
- The software (Discribe) is glitchy at best (running under OsX 10.4).
- The drivers (should you decide not to use Discribe) refuse to work with other programs (again, under OsX). Even though the manual says that you can install the drivers and print from any application (I tried Photoshop CS3) the printer will tell you "out of discs" even though you've fed it with discs.
-The hardware is terrible.
>Build quality is very low (bits will come unglued, yes, it is GLUED together!)
>The CD holder has some weird design whereby you need to load 5-discs flat and then the rest at some angle (no mention of this in the manual - contact their support after days of frustration to find this out)
>Speed!!! It is ludicrously slow! If you're burning, you...

Sony CDP-CX151 100 Disc CD Multichanger
Review of Sony CDP-CX151 100-Disc CD Changer by
damionh
Advantages: Holds a vast amount of discs, saves space, easy access
Disadvantages: Slow loading speed
...When i first bought my 100 Disc changer it was one of those fads, one of those things that i thought , "well, even if i dont use it that often it still looks pretty" . Now a few years on the player has had hours upon hours of trouble free usage.
The player is based on Sony electronics and is as good as it gets for CD Changers, yes there are others, nowadays you can get 200,300 and even 400 disc changers, but this is the one that caught my eye the most.. The player is equipped with a front screen which allows you to input the name of the CD loaded at that particular position. These positions can be accessed (but not played at the same time) using the jog file function. There are other functions that allow the grouping of Cd's into different genres or artists or whatever you choose. A remote comes as standard with the player...

CRACKING 2 - DISC DVD, GROMIT!
Review of Wallace & Gromit - The curse of the were-rabbit (2 disc special) by
Thecharmedones
Advantages: This is pure comedy escapism for all the family!
Disadvantages: Absolutely none, unless you don't like laughing!
...Works to help him make a full-length film starring his beloved Wallace & Gromit. The answer from DreamWorks was a resounding 'YES!' and thus 'The Curse of the Were-Rabbit' was created.
The film came out in 2005 and has only just been released on DVD. To celebrate, the manufacturers have released the film as part of a 2 disc DVD special edition. Here is what you can expect to get:
DISC ONE
~~THE FILM ~~
I give this film 5 stars. I don't want to spoil too much of the plot, because I didn't know very much about the storyline before I watched it, so it was a pleasant surprise. All I will tell you is that Wallace & Gromit's village has been over-run by rabbits and our heroes now work in pest control, calling themselves 'Anti-Pesto', if you can believe it!
Wallace (who lets face it is a bit of a pest himself), is still hopelessly unaware...

Desert Island Discs - I wish
Review of Desert Island Discs (Radio 4) by
tgtips
Advantages: I always learn something from the guests
Disadvantages: Why haven't I been on the show yet?
...I’ve always wanted to be on Desert Island Discs, firstly to play my songs and secondly to be so rich and famous and intelligent that they’d want me on. So maybe if I put my 8 songs here, together with my book and luxury item then one day I’ll be on! I'm not exactly reviewing the programme here, but you can tell I love it! And since no one else has yet reviewed it I'm taking Artistic Licence.
The Boxer – Simon and Garfunkel
Father and Son – Cat Stevens
Funeral for a Friend/Love Lies Bleeding – Elton John
Paradise By The Dashboard - Meatloaf
Living Years – Mike and the Mechanics
The Promised Land – Bruce Springsteen
Lying Eyes – Eagles
Over the Rainbow – Eva Cassidy
“Well Sue (Lawley) my first choice is The Boxer by Simon and Garfunkel, it...

Hope Pro II Front Disc 20mm Hub
Review of Hope Pro II Disc Front 20mm by
bikerider1
Advantages: Super strong and light, sealed bearings means it will work forever
Disadvantages: 20mm axle means it wont work on all forks
...Another excellent product from the Hope range.
The hub is perfect for all types of riding, its light enough for xc riders and also strong enough for the downhill riders. It runs on sealed cartridge bearings that are easily changeable, instructions can be found on the Hope website. The hub body is made of cnc'd aluminum so its light and still strong. It also has the standard 6-bolt disc mount so its compatible with all brake systems. The 20mm axle means it creates a very stiff wheel and front end of the bike that will take all abuse. It comes in all the standard hope colours so you can easily match it to you colour scheme.
A superb hub well worth the money, it will last forever...

eXpanium Enigma
Review of Philips eXpanium EXP401 by
Decoy
Advantages: Small, portable, good sound quality, cheap.
Disadvantages: Can eat batteries, some playback problems with MP3.
..., they produce decent low's in conjunction with the bass boost feature, and cope well with mid's and hi's, making just about anything listenable (well, apart from the Cheeky Girls!). An in-line remote control is also included, and this has play/pause, stop, trackskip, hold and volume controls on it, making operation of the player possible without taking it out of your pocket. Other accessories include an AC power adaptor, and a blank Philips 8cm CDR, but this can only be used for audio, not MP3 recording.
The main worry I had with the EXP 401 was the availability of the 8cm Mini CD media. In fact, whilst they aren't that widely available, which could be a problem for some, Argos stock them at roughly £5 for 5 blank 210 MB CDR's, and CDRW discs are also available. They can also be found on the net in bulk, and I am yet to experience problems buying...
