ok, so to start,
it is an apple, that means you get a solid quality product and on the whole very good customer are.
this particualar apple is deffinatly more suited to being a media center than other laptops. At first glance you realise that it is a fairly large laptop, this allows for a big screen, which being an apple ffers clear vivid displays, unfortunatly the big screen increases the overal size and also uses more battery, however, the 4.5 hour yattery is still very good for an entertainment laptop.
The laptops technical specs include a very fast 2.5 ghz dual core proccesor which is very fast, the dual core allows it to tackle multiple tasks quicly as well as increasing the overall speed of the laptop.
The price is quite steep however, but i believe, if given the money, it is...

...In my opinion, the AppleMacbookPro is an ideal laptop. As a student, I find that it meets all my needs - I can store plenty of music, photos etc even though I bought the cheapest one with the smallest memory.
The system operates very fast and comes with both Firefox and Safari.
My only criticism is that it only comes with textedit and so you have to buy iWorks for around £65. However, despite this it is good value for money and I don't regret spending my 2 years worth of part-time earnings on it!
It has everything I want from a laptop and is ideally portable and good for watching films despite the smaller screen size. Another feature I particularly liked was that it has a light up keyboard for when you are in darker rooms - you can adjust the brightness of the keyboard the same as you can for the screen. I am giving this Macbookpro a rating of 4 stars, this is due the difference in price with respect to performance when compared with the last generation black macbook. I do not consider the £500 price difference to be justified by any gain in performance or functionality. It seems you are paying purely for an updated appearence and apple logo....

...Let me be frank. I am a fan of Apple computer. This is no secret. I love more or less everything they do, and although I hope to be objective, here, you are reading the review of a card carrying member of the Cult of Mac.
I had heard that apple had been prepping a redesign to the MacBookpro line for some time, and had held off on purchasing my new macbookpro until this happened. Sadly, the updates came, and the 17 inch top end model was not part of the refresh. The cool new unibody macbookpro's are limited to the 15 inch model. I agonised over the choice for some time, the new 15 inch MBP's are so impressive, but eventually, screen real estate won out, and I brought the older design 17 inch model. I have to say, I am not disappointed.
The computer is a replacement for my old 17 inch PowerBook G4, which was itself no slouch...

...I would recommend this product to anybody looking for a laptop. It's very easy to use, even for somebody who would describe themselves as computer illiterate. It's suitable for both personal and professional uses and the small details such as the built-in camera and the iphoto application aswell as the remote that comes with it which can be used for power point presentations etc. make the AppleMacbookPro stand out amongst other brands. It has bluetooth for easy connection with your mobile phone which can come in handy, regular update alerts which have been suprisingly useful. The safari internet server is very well set out and easy to use. As a student with lots of essays to write and passages and reports to download from the internet, it was important to me for my laptop to have a system that would allow this to be both easy...

...The MacBookpro really does have the best of both worlds. In a recent firmware upgrade offered by Apple and a smaller program called Bootcamp OS X now includes BIOS support as apossed to just EFI. What does this mean? Well it means you can install other operating systems such as Windows XP (only SP2 atm) and linux distro's such as Fedora Core. Great but I wanted OS X to get way from other operating systems...Well its a welcome addition, especially to professionals, many times professionals would need a second machine to test how there work would show on a windows computer (Web designer to check compatabilty with Internet explorer for etc) and also gamers. This now allows users to have just one machine and use both OS X and XP, so no need for a 2nd computer (and XP really flys on my MacBook 1.8ghz 512mb ram!)

...of the purchase price of the macbook. I have however heard of people even having three operating systems loaded and switching between them, but this really would impact disk space and I have never tried this myself.
Some free open-source software is also available for MAC OSX even without installing Linux, such as Gimp, the Linux photo-editing program (similar to Photoshop), because Linux and Unix are in fact virtually identical, but any software specifically for Apple from any source will generally be as expensive as the PC equivalent and probably available some time later, because there are fewer users of Apples (unless you run Windows on your macbook)
In terms of performance it is a fast machine, with Intel dual-core processors, which can be made ever faster by doubling or quadrupling the RAM (1 GB is standard) although buying extra memory...

General comments: I wanted to upgrade my old Titanium Powerbook (bought in 2001) and so took a flight to London to personally handle the latest MacBookPro17". I walked into the shop in Regent Street with £3000 cash - discovered the MBP was in my eyes rubbish, so came home again without wasting my money. I had seen the Macbook 13" black book and was impressed since it was compact and had most of the features of the MBP. Hence at the start of December 2007 I walked into a shop in France and bought it - you can only go for so long trying to use hardware which is seven years old when working in the hi-tech world. I made the compromise and bought this Macbook and was able to persuade Monsieur Lawrence of Apple Service in France to exchange the French keyboard for a QWERTY one free of charge.
