...I bought the DellVostro1000 for starting a Degree last september. The Vostro1000 is marketed at businesses and as such is installed with Windows Vista Business. The laptop came with 2GB of RAM which is ample to run vista comfortably.
The fact that the laptop is marketed for businesses has made no difference to me. In fact it has probably helped me with my degreee as it doesn't come with all the extra unnecessary rubbish that others do (e.g. solitaire, hearts etc)!
The Vostro has been able to handle everything I have thrown at it; every game I have installed, the microsoft ultimate 2007 package, etc.
The DellVostro1000 is amazing quality for money and I would thoroughly recommend it, expecially for anyone on a limited budget.
The battery once charged does not last for ages but it is not too bad at all; as with most laptops...

Review of DellVostro1000
Advantages: Cheap and well spec'd Disadvantages: No disadvantages when priced at £352
...of Dell laptops always seem to be getting better. I made the decision to buy.
The snag I found was this DellVostro1000 was a range that is only available to business customers. This wasn't really a major problem, as I could just buy it as a business. Purchasing as a business has a drawback, but it also has a pro point.
The drawback to buying as a business is that the distance selling regulations only apply to consumers, so you cannot send it back within 7 days if you change your mind.
The pro point is that the laptops tend to have less rubbish installed on them, than their equivalent consumer models.
The specifcation of the Laptop I purchased was:
AMD AthlonTM 64 X2 Dual Core Processor TK-53 (1.7GHz,512KB)
2GB RAM
Integrated ATI Radeon® Xpress 1150 HyperMemoryTM
15.4" Wide Screen WXGA (1280x800) display
120GB Hard...

Review of DellVostro1000
Advantages: Cheap and reliable Disadvantages: Short battery life
...I love this laptop so much and it was also cheap which is always a plus.
The 6.26 lb black magnesium alloy chassis appears very solid and makes the laptop look smart. It has Athlon 64 bit X2 AMD processor, a 15.4 inch Widescreen WXGA (1280x800) widescreen, 1GB of RAM, and a 80GB hard drive. There is built in wireless internet in the form of a Dell 1390 802.11g Wi-Fi card.
I think there are both pros and cons with this laptop as with most products. The pros are cheap, wireless internet, fast at start up and loading internet pages which unfortunatly I cant say for my Hp 3gb Laptop. It has a big, clear screen aswell.
The cons are Short battery life and the sound quality is not too good. I would definately recommend this to anyone though as it is brilliant for the price....

Review of DellVostro1000
Advantages: 17" screen, fast to react, good all-round laptop Disadvantages: Fingerprint-attractive case, badly-placed power cable
...The DellVostro 1720 is part of the Dell family and I?d never even touched a Dell desktop or laptop prior to being given this as a laptop for work. I?d heard quite bad things about Dell and I associated them with an AOL-type company.
How surprised I was when I first used this Vostro 1720. It?s a very nice machine, although there are some niggles that I?d like sorted out before I actually bought one with my own money.
~~~The Good~~~
-It?s got a 17? screen and a full keyboard including a full number pad. Despite that, it?s very light, yet still solidly built.
-It?s fast, both to boot up and to shut down. You also don?t notice any delay when opening applications.
-It?s quiet, even when it?s running a CD or DVD, although it can be quite noisy when it?s booting that drive up but that doesn?t last for long.
-The screen is...
Review of DellVostro 1720
Advantages: Built-in webcam, huge number of ports, clever function buttons, media button panel, nice screen Disadvantages: Basically none except that it is slightly heavy because it contains a lot!
...The new Vostro series from Dell is a dark horse. Despite not getting the attention of Dell's mega-high-spec machines such as the XPS, these laptops designed for small businesses are actually probably the best to buy for any purpose.
As usual, the Vostros are customisable so that you can pay more for better components. A standard configuration will include a dual core Intel Core 2 Duo processor at 2GHz - a very fast processor indeed - alongside an nVidia GeForce separate graphics card, 1GB of RAM and 160GB of hard-disk space. They also come with Windows Vista (or XP if you prefer). Combined, what this provides is an extremely smooth Windows experience. The graphics card handles all the new visual effects in Windows Vista effortlessly, and the large amount of RAM also speeds up programs a great deal. All of these features can be...
Review of DellVostro 1700
Advantages: Great all rounder, fast, durable and good pricing, value for money Disadvantages: Some minor problems like power cable sometimes not recognised
...The dellVostro 1700 is a good piece of technology. It have used it now for 6 months roughly and the thing i find great about dell's computers is their durability even when kept turned on for long hours (sometimes a couple of days in my case!!).
This laptop is powerful and has a good quality screen that does not get marked easyly, unlike the other new laptops from dell, where the screen gets marked easyly due to the ultra clean and shinyness of it.
I reccomend this product if you need a laptop to go, with a wide screen, full keyboard (includes the extra numbers like on the normal keyboard) and you will be using it for things like word processing, internet browsing, website development and more! All types of home and small business uses are covered with this decent laptop.
However i do not reccomend this if you intend to use...
Review of DellVostro 1700
Advantages: Good spec, reasonable price, great processor Disadvantages: The piano black surface attracts dust and dirt.
...I purchased the Dell Inspiron 1545 laptop back in January for my daughter's birthday. I had a limited budget but wanted to get her something with decent enough spec for playing computer games should she wish to do this, and a large hard drive as she is a big fan of making videos on her digital camera and downloading music - two things which can eat up hard drive space.
I did a fair bit of research before purchasing and decided I wanted to get the best spec I possibly could for my money and the Inspiron ticked all the boxes. I paid £399 in January 2009 in Currys for the laptop which was the absolute limit on my budget.
The Dell I purchased has a dark blue coloured lid, however the rest of it is a shiny piano black which looks lovely. I would have preferred metal for the mousepad area - it feels sturdier and doesn't seem to attract...
Advantages: Cheap, good brand, lots of features, Disadvantages: Probably not powerful enough for games, bottom of the market now
...The Dell Inspiron 1545 is an easy to use entry level laptop. Unlike two years ago when I bought my previous laptop, you can now get a number of Dell computers (of which this is one) direct from high street retailers. This is good if you want it in a rush and want a nearby place to handle any issues, but has the disadvantage that you can't customise your laptop to your own requirements to the same extent that you can if you buy it direct from Dell (which takes several weeks).
Because Dell are so good at allowing customisation, you need to be very careful when you buy that you actually get the one you need - they are not all the same, so you can't just go into a shop and say "Give me your Inspiron 1545" - you need to be sure that it e.g. has a suitable processor, enough memory and a big enough hard drive for your needs. At the time...
Advantages: cool and quite robust trackpad, good display,64-bit windows 7 Disadvantages: few connectors,dell drivers only, not realy for gameing (most models), finger print prone!
...We got the Dell insperon as a replacement for our trusty old Toshiba laptop we did want a red dell studio but budgetary reality kicked in and we went for this insperon 1545, here's my review for it.
Laptop specifications improve all the time, so I wont go on to much about the spec and concentrate more on the laptop as a whole. Now if your new to laptops or computers in general i`ll give you a bit of buying advice.
If you want to buy a dell laptop from there website DON'T buy the cheapest £299 model it`s a false economy, there isn't enough memory (just 1GB of ram) witch will mean that it wont be as quick as it could be moreover you will find that it will get slower as you start to fill it up with apps. ALWAYS buy the next model up if you are after a cheap laptop as you get a lot more for your money (as well as sufficient memory).
