Spike Lee's incendiary look at race relations in America, circa 1989, is so colourful and exuberant for its first three-quarters that you can almost forget the terrible confrontation that the movie inexorably builds toward. Do the Right Thing is a joyful, tumultuous masterpiece--maybe the best film ever made about race in America, revealing racial prejudices and stereotypes in all their guises and demonstrating how a deadly riot can erupt out of a series of small misunderstandings. Set on one block in Bedford-Stuyvesant on the hottest day of the summer, the movie shows the whole spectrum of life in this neighbourhood and then leaves it up to us to decide if, in the end, anybody actually does the " right thing." Featuring Danny Aiello as Sal, the pizza parlour owner; Lee himself as Mookie, the lazy pizza-delivery guy; John Turturro and Richard Edson as Sal's sons; Lee's sister Joie as Mookie's sister Jade; Rosie Perez as Mookie's girlfriend Tina; Ossie Davis and Ruby Dee as the block elders, Da Mayor and Mother Sister; Giancarlo Esposito as Mookie's hot-headed friend Buggin' Out; Bill Nunn as the boom-box toting Radio Raheem; and Samuel L Jackson as DJ Mister Señor Love Daddy. This is a rich and nuanced film to watch, treasure and learn from--over and over again. --Jim Emerson ... less

He deftly blends humour and drama as well as using specific music to further amplify his theme (Public Enemys song Fight the Power actually becomes the films main catalyst for action). Boldly closing the film with opposing quotes from Malcolm X and Martin Luther King on the nature of race relations Lee leaves it up to the viewer to decide if Mookies actions were the correct ones. Aiello and Esposito are standouts in an all-star cast that includes Lee himself his sister Joie discovery Rosie Perez and the married team of Ossie Davis and Ruby Dee. Always one to spark controversy Lees summer drama finds the filmmaker at the peak of his craft. Special Features: Technical Details: Region 2 Running Time: 114 minutes ... less

Are they doing the right thing? YES!
Advantages: Cutting the debt
Disadvantages: It's going to hurt everyone.
...I've answered half of the question in my title my saying yes I think they're doing the right thing no matter what anyone says the coalition government that came into power this year said they were going to cut the bill and yes, they are delivering, is it sounding particularly fair at the moment though? No, not really.
Before I really get into this, let me describe my situation. We are a low-income, half working family in the West Midlands. My partner earns £6 an hour as an Administration Clerk in the HR department of his family business, he also goes to uni two days a week to study Business and is eligible for student funding, however he goes through a Technology College where the funding is different. I am a full time mum to our seven week old daughter and I have the intend to go back to college next year to continue my course to...

Do the right thing.............
Advantages: Fight choreography, story
Disadvantages: Dubbing
...I am forever in awe of the discipline and morality that seems to come with martial arts, the true meaning behind what we see as just 'fighting' on the whole. Jet Li has starred in many a film featuring different types of martial arts, and here he stars in a true story about a martial artist who realised the error of his ways once it was too late and suffered the consequences, vowing to set things as right as he could, to ensure others did not make the same mistakes.
Set at the turn of the 20th Century, it is a beautiful tale above all else. At least, visually, it is stunning. The subject matter is often quite harsh and harrowing, especially during scenes involving death. These are few, but memorable, and not in a good way. The film starts us off in 1910, as Jet Li's character, Huo Yuan Jia, is about to face the challenge of fighting...

Do animals have rights?
Advantages: Pets are great company, keep us feeling young.
Disadvantages: Some people don't respect them
...Do animals have rights? Good question! With the recent news that animals are to be given more rights, I thought this was an interesting time to post a review on the topic!
Firstly, my simple one word answer to this question is - YES! Animals do have rights! Are we talking about just domestic animals here like dogs, cats, rabbits etc? No, I don't think we are. All animals have rights. Human beings themselves are animals. Yes, we may be clever than a dog or a bird (some may disagree with this the way the world is going!), but we are, however, still animals! Like an animal as we know it, we have a heart, blood running through our veins and a brain.
Why do I think animals have rights? Well, for a start, look at how tough the RSPCA come down on you when you don't treat an animal right! Treat an animal wrong, depending...
