...The ToshibaSatellite L500 is the same as most other toshiba laptops. It looks stylish and can do all the basic functions that you would want for a laptop. However, when you use it, you dont feel very comfortable because it feels very cheap. The keyboard is very flimsy and feels like it is about to break every time you type something and the mouse pad and buttons do not respond well. However, the number pad on the right hand side of the keyboard is great as it makes it so easy to type numbers. You can buy this laptop with a range of processors and sizes of harddrive so you can choose the one which suits you best. The display is actually very good but the battery life could have been improved. On my model it will last for a maximum of 2.5 hours on its lowest power setting.

The operating system we get is Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium which is some what hard to adopt for new user but after some day it will be easy.

...i first bought a Toshiba around about 4 or 5 years ago, it was a toshiba tecra m3, it was a lovely laptop until i dropped it and broke it, i decided that i would replace it with another toshiba because of the previous good reliability i had got from the machine, i thing that attracted me to this laptop was firstly the fact it was an operating system upgrade for me and secondly the superior specifications, the only down side being that there is no integrated bluetooth and trusted security platform, i found that the offers that were available at the time of purchase were very reasonable and i feel i got great value for money, i also think that the designer of this laptop has taken very great care with the general look and feel of the laptop and have put a lot of thought into the hardware they have supplied and it holds pride of place...

NEGATIVES
I'll get straight to the point, the graphics card is seriously bad, there's no way around it. It's a new thing where your computers RAM is used to power some of the graphics, like video and pictures. However this won't work with high-end games like the Call of Duty series or Crysis. This however, isn't a laptop you'd buy if you were wanting one for gaming, so it's not a major draw back. Another bad point is the durability, which isn't great. The lid can be pushed in, revealing it is fairly hollow apart from the screen and its components. I thought this a bit stupid as Toshiba are just wasting money making more material, why not just make it thin and tight guys...

...Appearance:
Well, the horizontal stripy appearance is a bit of a novelty - a pity that large Toshiba logo isn't a bit more subtle, maybe black would have been better on grey. The stripes are also on the inside - a bit distracting perhaps? Still, it does give an impression of being a fairly robust laptop casewise. Another plus is the firm keyboard and large mouse buttons.
Inside:
This is a reasonably fast laptop (Intel Core 2 Duo T5550 and 2GB of memory) and with a 200GB hard drive provides plenty of storage space.
Entertainment:
The 15.4 inch screen is pretty good regarding brightness and colour for DVDs and the speakers (Harman Kardon) are particularly impressive. It also comes with Vista HotStart for playing music and touch-sensitive hotkeys to control CDs and DVDs.
Downside:
The battery life is a bit on the low side...

Vista, now I had heard so much about it, but had never experienced it for myself. Truth is, I quite like it though it takes some getting used to. For those who haven't grown up with computers it may take longer to get used to. However, if you're like me then you'll just get on with it and learn to love it.
Vista came pre-installed and I have had no problems with it at all.

There is a HD-DVD drive built in because Toshiba was a company responsible for creating these disks, but they did not take off and a Blu-Ray drive would have been a better option. But it still works in all the normal ways that a DVD-ROM driver would and plays all DVDs and CDs.
There is a dual core processor located inside which helps to run the Vista operating system, but at times it is very slow. This is generally the case when there are multiple windows open. But saying this, it can handle most tasks very easily and quickly e.g. opening and using Microsoft Word, Excel, etc.
The overall design of the laptop I would say is very good. With the addition of Harman/Lardon speakers it means that it has excellent sound quality when playing music, videos...

Why to buy?
Let me first tell you that I had owned laptops before (5 of them). A month back I purchased an HD Camcorder and thus, started shopping for something more powerful, to do my HD Movie Editing. I knew it was time for a core2duo model. After contemplating few of the latest brands I chose the ToshibaSatellite U400-138, about 10 days back.
