Toshiba Tecra A3
Advantages: Portable, easy to use
Disadvantages: There are better laptops available for the price
...I decided to use a laptop as I'm constantly running from college, to uni to home to london! I needed a laptop that would be easily transportable, with long enough battery life to last. I chose this laptop as it was simple and came with Microsoft Office and Anti-Virus. I would only be using it for my college/uni work so it seemed to suit my needs
It is relatively low-spec, although you can buy additional memory but I would not use it for gaming, essentially its a student laptop.
It is quite light (2.7kg) and it's relatively small (33.8cm x 28cm x 3.7cm) this all adds up to make it very easily transportable. I havent bought a carry-case for it because Ive had no need for one, it is small enough and light enough to fit nicely under my arm.
It is very robust, even with the amount it has been transported it has only a few minor...

My Toshiba Tecra M2 - Warming up to Progress
Advantages: Light, versatile, packed with features
Disadvantages: It's still a laptop
...Let me make it perfectly clear right up front: I'm not overfond of laptops. They're relatively small, usually have rather fuzzy screens, come with small keyboards that make typing difficult, and have strange built-in mice that are nigh onto impossible to manipulate. Given my durthers, I'll take a full-sized PC any day.
Despite all these disclaimers, my purpose here to review the Toshiba Tecra M2 notebook, kindly purchased for me by my company to make me more efficient and productive. Now don't get me wrong. I appreciate the sentiments and the logic of the new laptop, even though I use it far less often than my more powerful, less portable desktop. But I have to admit, my Tecra M2 isn't as bad as I feared.
Talk about damning with faint praise! Perhaps I can improve a bit on that. There's one thing my Toshiba does remarkable...

Review of Toshiba Tecra A9 Laptop computer
Advantages: Lightweight, powerful, strong, long battery life. Excellent toshiba software. Quiet. Filter on CPU vent
Disadvantages: Headphone port at the front. Tiny trackpad. Creaks a lot. Screen not that good
...a sweat. The graphics preformance of the laptop, though lacking slightly on the 3D and gaming side, excells at HD playback, which is as smooth as one could want.
However, there are some shortfalls. The toshiba software is a little annoying and does slow the machine down a little, and sometimes doesn't work. For example, you can't change the screen brightness and or you can't lock the computer and it wont shut down. The headphone port placed at the front of the laptop below the trackpad is quite odd and I am always knocking into it, and resting on it when I am using the laptop. It also doesn't fare well when watching a DVD (DVD playback preformance is very good and smooth by the way) it can get in the way.
The laptop is also rather creaky, and there is some bending of the plastic in certain areas. The screen also seems to be comming...

Why Buy a Tecra?
Advantages: Fast, Great Graphics Chip, Light (2.6kg)
Disadvantages: Expensive, Sensitive to registry changes
...Why did I buy the Tecra 8100?
First of all what I wanted was a desktop replacement machine, one on which I could do all my spreadsheet and word stuff as well as play games. I am an engineer so I need good connectivity options as well.
The choice was:-
Dell Inspiron 3800, 5000, 7500
Toshiba Tecra 8100
HP Omnibook 6000
The Dells are very good machines, I used to old an old 7000 series. The 3800 is light and quite quick, the 5000 has all the multimedia features you need, the 7500 has even more. But... The 3800 is not meant to be used as a desktop replacement, it doesn't have the oomph for that. The 5000 and 7000 are great machines but heavy.
The HP Omnibook is the machine I would probably buy by choice except that it is very expensive and uses the ATI graphics card
The Tecra is not as expensive as the Omnibook and uses...

Toshiba A7
Advantages: when it works it is fine
Disadvantages: it can take hours to boot up
...I bought one of these little buggers refurbished from the Toshiba service centre. If you are thinking of doing the same don't do it! Now I have one I find that it is a common fault in the machine that one of the network components freezes the processor for reasons unknown, it will not come out of standby without a fight, it is a real pain in the @$$. I would hate to generalise that it is Toshiba, I am sure that there are reliable models out there but this is not one and support from Toshiba has been sadly lacking. Searching numerous forums on the web finds many other users with the same faults, a hardware problem maybe, not sure, I have lost interest and now have to leave the laptop on continuously so I am not reminded of the fight to restart it....

Toshiba NB100
Advantages: Nice look, good battery life.
Disadvantages: Too small.
...I think the only way to describe this notebook is small, light and cheap. I wasn't overly impressed by it but there are some far worse models around.
Look and design
For starters, as i have already said, it's small, far smaller than any notebook or laptop I have ever owned, making portablility very easy indeed. This does however mean that typing is quite uncomfortable and doing so for long periods of time, as I found out when doing a document on this, leaves you with quite a bit of muscle cramp. As i have also previously said, it's very light, weighing less than 1kg, adding to the ease of portablility.
It does look quite stylish, the shiny metalic silver exterior combines quite well with the black interior to create a pretty cool look. It only has an 8.9 inch screen, but considering how small the notebook is, this is...

Toshiba's top of the line notebook
Advantages: Sleek design, very powerful, reliable, large screen and typical premium quality as expected from Toshiba
Disadvantages: Heavy and a little large. this is a very protable lap top but you can't exactly throw it around due to it's weight and slightly larger then normal size
...Toshiba is probably the most credible and reputable maker of notebook computers. The Tecra S1 is one of Toshiba's top of the line notebooks.
The notebook is very stylishly designed, better looking than Sony's notebooks in my opinion. The only bad points about the design is that the surface is easer to scratch then the softer surfaces of notebooks made by Dell or Acer, but this isn't a big worry.
The speakers, keyboard, pointing devices (2 of them), and power button are well located and the indicator lights on the front are extremely useful for determining what mode the lap top is in (ie. wirelesss mode, whether the battery is charging, whether the AC power is connected) after you've worked out what each light is for.
The notebook's biggest strength is it's power. It is a large hard drive (60GB), high amount of RAM (512MB...

TOSHIBA
Advantages: Useful
Disadvantages: There are plenty of better models
...GENERAL INFORMATION
This Toshiba laptop is part of the Equium series.
Key Features
- Intel® Pentium® Dual-Core Processor T2370

Basically the laptop is an average notebook computer for general use. The processor and drive capabilities are nothing special, but admirable for the price that you pay.
OPINION
If you want a computer for anything other than general use this is not the right laptop for you. It doesnt have the capabilities to be anything other than an average computer. It could suit small business ventures that dont necessarily require a high processing speed, but is...

Good Solid Old Laptop
Advantages: Solid Casing, built in bluetooth, wifi
Disadvantages: slow compared to modern machines, built in mouse
...I have been using the Toshiba Tecra 9000 for about two years now.
The laptop is very good. The inbuilt wireless and Bluetooth are very useful. The built in SD Card reader is also useful, but only runs at USB 1.1 speed so can be a little slow when transferring lots of files.
The screen is bright and clear and copes well with playing DVDs. It is a fast enough PC to watch the BBC iPlayer in full screen.
The built in mouse nipple can be a little hard to get used to, so I would recommend a small cordless USB mouse. You can get these for as little as two or three quid from a site like ebuyer.
The battery life is ok.
There can be some issues with these laptops, and if you have one that is starting to blue screen some information can be found at http://www.squidoo.com/T9000fix.
Overall this laptop is suitable for many tasks...

Great machine at bargin prices
Advantages: Light, sleek and stylish. Great performance and great value for money.
Disadvantages: Largest screen size is 14.1 Inches.
...Working in IT I get to test all the latest machines and I had the pleasure recently of using the Tecra 8100 1Ghz machine running with 256MB and I have to say I was very impressed. Firstly it is quite sleek and light which you want in a laptop and I think it looks very stylish. Now that the asthetics are out of the way we can concentrate on the important things like performance and stability. I have experience of many laptops e.g. Compaq Armadas, Dell Inspirons, Sony Vaios etc but so far the Toshiba Tecra has been th most reliable. The other brands I have mentioned seem to all have problems with the power management systems. Most use speedstep technology which means when the laptop is not plugged in the processor will clock down to save power. This is a pain on most of the other machines but not the Toshiba. Also the biggest problems...
