...Morning, Evening afternoon people, This is a review on The ALTEC 5100 5.1 PC SPEAKERS. I first saw these speakers yesterday (03/07/04) in PcWorld when i was wondering round the store looking at the Gel-Wrist Rest, and the BlueTooth wireless keyboards. I was drawn immediately to the style and compact size of this 5.1 system. My reason for being in the speaker section is that i will being going to mauritius for about 1 month in August. And for entertainment when i am chilling in my house, drinking beer i would like to have a sepaker system which would be loud yet easy enough for me to take abroad and also drag onto our baclony which is 8 x 20 feet in size. ...As you can tell from the title, in my opinion this phone is very much in a niche market. The styling, the robustness, and the overall look suggest to me this is most likely to be seen in the baggy pockets of the skateboarders in your local town centre! That's not to say that this phone wont appeal to others. I've just purchased one of these for my girlfriend who wanted a colour phone with all the toys, but didn't want to spend a fortune. So £25 later, and signed up to a fantastic tariff, she owned this wicked mobile! I myself own a 6100, and was amazed to find that the 5100 does EVERYTHING mine does, and more. Advantages: Durable,sturdy and "anything"- proof
Disadvantages: Radio drains battery,impossible with gloves.

...First off,i'm very much outdoors,generally sleep one third of the year outside. At least before i had my daughter but that is a different matter. Anyhow i had another phone before the 5100 ( a 3310) and it really didn't go well with the elements. Batterytime on a "standard" office phone is all good and well but when you get out and the mercury drops to zero you cant use it. Heck even on a brisk fall day it goes out quicker than Foreman vs Ali -74...(Okey that was lame analogy it took 8 rounds but i like sports too..) My point is that i actually put my little phone through quite an ordeal and it still came through for me.1.Camping i n minus 5 not a problem,played that parachute game and went to sleep.BTW i dont know exactly how accurate that thermometer is but its very useful. 2.Dropped it (not on purpose) from a 9ft boulder brushed... ...I have owned the Nokia 5100 for nearly a year now, I got mine as an upgrade from the 5210 at Phones 4U. When I first saw this phone I couldn’t really see why I would want it because its not the nicest of looking phones when put next too some of the phones on the market, but I wasn’t going to let my first opinion make my decision I did actually want to get to know what this phone could offer me that my current phone couldn’t. ...This phone is a well built eye catching phone. It has easy to navigate menus with big colour pictures, that will also explain what each menu does. It comes with a built in radio, like most new Nokia's and also a built in torch. This is a great little gadget to show to your mates but unfortunately it isn't really bright enough to have much use. Nokia have put a lot of time and effort into producing this phone from its predecessor, and have succeeded in building a phone that is not only practical but is also a lot of fun. Unfortunately there are a few more menus which are a little time consuming after being used to previous Nokia's. There has also been a change in the select and cancel buttons at the top of the keypad which take time to getting used to. ...Well, lets start. I bought the 5100, from the e-shop, nice price £158 pounds, offline. (themobileprepublic.com) As a resent, this was a perfect gift, because the person it was bought for was a mechanic. I thought buying more stylish and sleek business style phone would be highly inappropriate. Imagine, it’d lie in the car of somewhere “safe” instead of being used, in case it scratches. Mechanics, what else to say. Well, back to the phone. Nice price, and decent specs. Listen: FM RADIO, GPRS enabled wap ( you only pay for what you download , and no more “per-minute” fees while you are surfing wap. Check with your phone’s settings and service provider maybe very cheap. If you are an intensive NET user and have accounts with MSN and/or Yahoo, there are some messengers you can download for your phones, like QSM messenger – anyhow... Read review

...I was fed up of disposables going rusty after one use and wanted something that I could use over and over again. I didn't have a lot of money to spend- i just wanted a basic shaver for my legs. However, after browsing vigouresly i saw the 'Braun Silk and Soft Body Shave 5100' and thought it a good deal. I was only looking for cheap leg shaver but to my suprise, the decription stated: underarm shaving, bikini trim AND leg shaving. Along with all the other features like: 'flexible foil', 'softstrip' and 'OptiShave attatchments'. I'm probably impressed to easily, because I had no idea what each feature meant, it just sounded better compared to others in the same price range. I was very impressed when I opened it because: 1, it was so easy to use (just popped in the batteries and off i went) and 2, money off at figleaves for my purchase... Read review

Advantages: Plays multiple DVD formats and Video File Formats, Not Too Expensive

...This unit has many positive attributes, but also a few negative. -Positives- I was searching the net for a decent DivX standalone player. I was looking for one which plays multiple file formats and multiple DVD types. This unit seemed to play the widest variety whilst still being in my price range. The Philips DVP5100 will play DivX, Xvid, MPEG1 /2 /4, SVCD, JPEG Disc, MP3 Disc and a few other types listed on the manufacturer's website. It has played every kind of DVD I have thrown at it also, including DVD+R's, which not all machines play. I was very happy about this as I'd just bought 100 of the things. I haven't had any problems playing discs up to now, this machine has easily handled a disc with 17 separate DivX files and they all played fine. The picture and sound quality is great.
