A710: Canon does it again

Advantages: Heaps of features, stabilised 6x zoom, reliable, Canon lens, excellent results
Disadvantages: Slow flash recharge, noise at high ISO, demands a little learning

...[Note: I did include paragraph spacing... but Ciao seems to be swallowing it!] The A710, as I like to call it to prove I'm on intimate terms with the thing (er, no, not in that way!), is a very, very nice camera. Despite having been overtaken in the last couple of years in the dreaded megapixel ratings - though 7.1 is more than enough for most people with a good lens such as Canon include here - it can still produce some superb results. However, it does demand a little bit of respect, and is perhaps not the ideal camera for someone looking for an out-and-out automatic point-and-shooter. As usual with A-series cameras, the A710 isn't going to win any awards for style, though the dark grey colour scheme is nicer than the silver many of its contemporaries offer. ...I purchased a new Toshiba Portege 710 under VDA GPS(Vodafone) branding in Germany for about 100 Euro, and I must say that in my opinion the device has few, if any, competitors for the price, but I discovered a few drawbacks which I found more or less disappointing: 1) The battery life is really poor compared to a budget-class mobile phone I previously had. I've been using the phone for 3 weeks only, but the battery runs from fully charged to flat after 2 days of stand-by mode plus 15-20 minutes of talking. One of my intentions was to use the phone as a pocket e-book reader, but as I see reading at "bright" highlight level discharges the battery completely very quickly. Strangely enough to me, the phone is losing datetime settings when the battery runs flat, so unless you charge it regularly you'll have to reset system time over...

Advantages: A joy to use
Disadvantages: the buttons on the edge of the keyboard can be accidently pressed

...I brought this product after my previous logitech wirless keyborad had given up after 3 years of constant use. At first i refused to pay for a new wireless keyboard after seeing the cost of them (my old one had been brought for me with my dell pc). I'll just use a wired keyboard that we had in the house, well i lasted about 2 weeks! While out on a sunday afternoon, i eventually parted with some money for LX710 keyboard and mouse. Sony VCR SLVE710 - Not All DVD-R Yet!

...Those who have read my reviews on other electrical goods may recognise that I have a lot of bias towards Sony and my SLV710 video recorder (one of three I own because I edit my video shots), is no exception. DVD recording has not taken over yet. I have had this machine for about 3 years now and it has not given me a moment's problem and with its auto set-up, it is easy to install. On taking it out of the box, I plugged in the aerial lead to the aerial-in socket on the VCR. In the aerial-out socket of the VCR, I plugged in the lead supplied and from there into the area in at the back of the television. I then connected the scart lead (this machine has two scart sockets, one for in, from my other VCR and the other one to the scart at the back of the television). So when I "misplaced" my camera on holiday, I searched around for a new kodak from the Easy Share series. One camera on the kodak website realy stood out for me, the ZD710. It seemed to offer all the advantages of a top of the range camera such as a large zoom and high ISO technology, without the huge pricetag. You can purchace a new one for around £120 from respected sites but I noticed the refurbished models on the kodak website. These cameras are ex-display or ex-demo that have been checked for scratches or faults by kodak. They are then cleaned and sold for a reduced price. You could pick one up for about £85. Advantages: Nice, crisp picture and good price (if you shop around)
Disadvantages: It is large (well it's a 17" screen) so make sure you have the space

I set a budget of £200 for my new monitor, and then started the onerous task of trawling the internet, looking at various models within my price limit on various sites such as buy.com, jungle.co.uk, insight.com and dabs.com (I found these to be the best ones). It took almost a week to narrow the search down to a few models, but I eventually picked the Hansol 710P from the vast selection on offer. As far as the particular site that I bought it from, there wasn’t much to choose between jungle.com and dabs.com for price in the end. I picked dabs.com as they were slightly cheaper (at £159.79) and had the quickest delivery time (so they claimed anyway). ...I was offered a used model by a friend. It certainly looks the business & is very smart, when sat on the desktop. If you have a nice machine and it's good, you like to tell everyone else it's good too. Don't you? Well I love this monitor, if you want all the techy stuff look at the spec sheet! I'm just going to tell you what it's like for the average punter to use. The Syncmaster 710 MP is easy to use, is excellent when connected to your PC, has integral speakers , which won't blow your brains out, but make adequate noise to tell you what's happening. I personally prefer to use it as a monitor for my PC. I thought it would be nice and simple to transfer data between the two, and that as he'd had his for a while he could show me how to work it. Samsung E710 - Everything you need to know!

Advantages: Sleek, Stylish & Crammed Full of Features
Disadvantages: Not the best battery life (but adequate). Replaced my phone due to faults!

...**Update 21/10/04** I have had my E710 replaced as it keep getting faults. Hopefully this was just my phone, but a word of warning first... 1st fault - corrupted software (due to bad data from samsung wap site), 2nd fault - lines on screen 3rd fault - interference in earpiece. Now, in all fairness the first 2 faults were repaired without any hassle but after the 3rd time of sending it to the engineers, they decided to replace my phone instead. However they had no E710s & so I got a free upgrade to an E800 (review coming soon). As I previously mentioned, hopefully I just had the dodgy phone in the batch & this was just an isolated problem!! ************* This replaced my Nokia 6100 which my fiancée had, as there was only a couple of months left on my contract, & so it was cheaper for her to pay that of than buy a new PAYG phone...
