Reviews of a driving school
Pass your test with help from Alan
Review of East End School of Motoring by
nirv
Advantages: Patient, reliable driving instructor.
Disadvantages: Dundee and surrounding area only.
...Cool, my suggestion was added. :) S'pose I should write something about EESOM then.
East End School of Motoring is a driving school based in Dundee ran by Alan Lockhart. I have not received any lessons from Alan personally, I met him through helping him set up his web site. A couple of people I know who were instructed by him were very happy with his lessons - and they both passed first time!
There are no prices on Alans site, nor did he disclose the prices to me. I believe his rates are reasonable though and he offers discounts to students, unemployed and for booking lessons in blocks.
Alan has been driving and teaching other to drive for many years. He is a founder member and past chairman of the Dundee & Dirtrict Driving Schools Association. He is also a past chairman of the Driving Instructors Scottish Council.
The car Alan...

AA Driving School
Review of AA Driving School by
beckett110
Advantages: Good Instructor, New Car
Disadvantages: None
...When I started thinking about learning to drive the sheer though of driving sent the fear of god into but I knew that I had to get through it somehow. Anyway I decided that after being recommended by a friend to try the AA driving school so I picked up the phone and nervously rang the number and booked a day for the following week.
That night I received a phone call from the driving instructor to whom I had been assigned, he could tell that I was really nervous about learning to drive but he calmed me down and arranged a different appointment as the AA had double booked him. The instructor had a really calming and although I was nervous at the beginning he pointed out that he wouldn't let me have an accident as he had control of the car as well.
It took a few weeks to start enjoying it but as I got better I felt more and more confident...

Every 2 minutes someone passes but how many fail
Review of BSM by
willsmj
Advantages: safety
Disadvantages: cost
...As a part time advanced driving examiner I examine drivers of all ages and with various experience. The test is above that of the average driver, thus it is called an advanced driving test. BSM claim that a number of people pass their driving test each minute of the day, but they do not mention how many actually fail!
With the advanced test candidates come from various driving groups or driving schools, and, I have to say that the pass rate from candidates from BSM do not have as good a pass rate as many other driving schools or local tutor groups.
I am all for the further education of driving and road safety, but at what cost to the candidate?
My view is this. If yopu are considering taking an advanced driving test then look around in your area and seek local advice before committing to lessons. The advanced test is extremely good...

Bramhall School Of Motoring
Review of BRAMHALL SCHOOL OF MOTORING, Stockport by
reddybrek123
Advantages: Encouraging instructors, Lovely cars
Disadvantages: none!
...I wanted driving lessons for my 17th birthday so i could gain more independance however i did NOT want to drive in a mini, any other car was fine, just not a mini. So what does my mum do? Books my lessons with Bramhall school of motoring - purely minis. At first i was sceptical, i thought of the old style minis and thought they would be cramped and just not very nice to drive.
I was hugely mistaken.
The mini's are lovely, really comfortable and plenty of space. My instuctor is really patient with me and very encouraging. I was allowed to drive on my first lesson after being taught the basics so was impressed with that. So far i have only had 3 lessons so i can't comment on whether i pass first time or not , however i have booked my theory - only 3 weeks after first learning to drive a car!
The lessons sound pricey but they are £27...

Don't buy a different one instead!
Review of Corsair Flash Voyager USB flash drive - 2 GB by
ned37
Advantages: It does its job and outshines everything else doing it.
Disadvantages: Waterproof? I wouldn't bet on it...
...I bought this little drive from school about 2 months ago so I could play Age of Empires II at school during free periods but everything about it has been a secret pleasant surprise. The 2GB version was a much needed upgrade from the 64MB drive I'd had for the last 5 or 6 years but to my delight it only set me back £10. Its wonderfully resistant. Its been run over more times than I care to think about and still works smoothly. That LED what you get on drives to show you they're working is nice and bright on this one so that there's no doubt its doing its job.
For a drive of this size and nature its excellent value for money and if you get bored it also bounces quite well. They're advertised as waterproof but I'm not sure how far you can trust that. Though I am far beyond satisfied with this....

SanDisk Cruzer Micro 2GB
Review of SanDisk Cruzer Micro - USB flash drive - 2 GB by
djfost
Advantages: Looks good, U3 capability - Carry your applications with you, Cheap
Disadvantages: U3 doesn't always work at school or work
...I recently purchased my SanDisk Cruzer Micro from eBay, as it was one of the cheapest brand-names available. Another thing that attracted me to this particular drive is the U3 capability. U3 is a new capability which allows usb drives to hold not only files and data, but also a variety of applications such as the Firefox browser, OpenOffice, Skype but also some games like Sudoku!
This great idea is fantastic if you work with multiple computers, such as at work or school where you would normally not be able to use your own applications.
Another great feature about the USB drive is the retractable connnector. With a quick slide on top of the drive, you can pull the connector back into the drive which eradicates the need for lids that often get misplaced.
I also like the modern look of the drive. the main part is a matt black colour...

children who live within 1 mile of a school walk
Review of Everything that starts with S ... by
mcgoo2002
Advantages: healthy exersise, less traffic, independance, enjoy enviroment
Disadvantages: safety, bad weather, small children get tired, trouble
...in some form of peer motivated violence.
Thirdly, if most of the pupils that live within one mile of their school's perimeter walked it would ease the traffic conjestion in and around the school grounds making the childs time in schol much safer. Another traffic related issue is polution, if the children walked then asthma sufferes would have cleen air and would not feel the brunt of their condition. Both of these resons make the school a safer enviroment for the children to learn.
But another point against children walking to school is the point of small children getting tired. This is a problem for all parents. At what age sould children be able to walk to school? A way to combat this problemis to slowly build up a childs walking journy to school. You could try driving them so far and dropping them off slowly decreasing the amount...

Bored of CD's and Floppys??
Review of Kingston DataTraveler USB flash drive - 1 GB by
looney_acorn
Advantages: Good size, Easy to use
Disadvantages: Slow at times
...This product is extremly good i feel
ill start with the only bad point i can think of, this is that is can be slow when getting nearlly full but still works well.
Right now the good points its so so easy to use. all you have to do it plug into the USB drive and all PC's that i have used including libary, university, laptop and home computer all auto recognise and auto install the device so you can use it almost instently. to use the drive you just either save things or copy and past things into the drive just like using a normal computer drive.
Another very good point is the size, i normally used my other flash drives for transpoting work from school to home. When i got this new drive i have been transporting music, pictures and other files to and from home.
this is a extremly good product and would highly recomend it. its...

A DESPERATE PLEA
Review of Everything that starts with P ... by
LICARUS
Advantages: taking your children to school by car has few!
Disadvantages: unhealthy, environmentally unfriendly, can make a nusiance to residents nearby.
...This is probably going to be more of a rant than an opinion, but I feel that it just has to be said and hopefully some people may think a little about what they are doing!
My rant is about parking, not just any kind of parking, but in particular the way parents/guardians or carers park their cars when delivering or collecting their children from school.
The majority of children will live within walking distance of their school and yet I see their parents deliver them to school everyday come rain or shine. Driving short distance is environmentally unfriendly, not particularly economical on your car, and is also reducing the amount of exercise your children will get in their day, thus helping to create unfit, lazy children, who will constantly want to be driven here, there and everywhere!
When I was at a day school, when dinosaurs...

Choosing A School For Your Child
Review of Member Advice on Education by
KarenUK
Advantages: see op
Disadvantages: see op
..., their contact details, amount of pupils and so on.
Where we live now, there are several schools my daughter could go to next year, but only two within walking distance. This was our first consideration really. I don’t drive, so she will be walking to school. The nearest school is a mile away, another is 2.7 miles. (You can find this out on www.upmystreet.co.uk) The school bus only takes pupils who live three miles or more away, so this is not an option.
The schools organise open days or open evenings, usually in late September. We went along to one of the schools with my daughter and we were all so impressed, we decided we will apply for her to attend this one.
So what factors did we take into consideration? Here are a few points to consider, although obviously, it depends on the individual and how you all feel about the place.
1) Distance...
